The Appalling Murder of Taylor Wright | Killers Caught On Camera

June 23, 2024 / 46:50

This episode covers two murder cases: the disappearance of Taylor Wright in Florida and the murder of Michelle Hansen in England. Key discussions include the investigation into Taylor's missing person case, the role of her friend Ashley MacArthur, and the brutal murder of Michelle by Alexander Carr.

In the first case, Taylor Wright, a private investigator, went missing in September 2017 after withdrawing $100,000 from her joint account with her ex-husband. Her girlfriend, Cassandra Waller, reported her missing, leading police to focus on Ashley MacArthur, who had been entrusted with Taylor's money. Surveillance footage and cell phone data revealed inconsistencies in Ashley's story.

Detectives discovered Taylor's body buried on a farm owned by Ashley's family, leading to Ashley's arrest for first-degree murder. The prosecution relied on video evidence and Ashley's suspicious behavior to secure a conviction.

The second case involves Michelle Hansen, who was found murdered in her home with multiple stab wounds. Alexander Carr, a man she had invited over, became the prime suspect. Police tracked him down after he evaded capture for weeks, ultimately leading to his arrest.

During the trial, it was revealed that Carr had a history of violence and mental health issues. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to life in prison. The episode highlights the impact of these tragic events on the victims' families.

TLDR

00:02:01
Drake Taylor was amazing as a mom it was fun to see Taylor transition from like this big bad cop to now this mother roll

00:02:55
and Jeff eventually took custody of their son two years later Taylor moved 8800 miles away to start a
00:03:03
new life in Pensacola [Music] Florida Taylor started working as a private investigator and at the same
00:03:11
time applied for a job at Pensacola Police Department she made new friends and began a romantic relationship with a
00:03:21
woman who she moved in [Music] with life was settling down again but in September 2017
00:03:30
just a few months after moving to Pensacola Taylor disappeared her girlfriend at the time
00:03:38
sent me a Facebook message and asking if I had heard from Taylor if she was missing it was a shock because that
00:03:46
wasn't anything like her she loved her son she loved him endlessly and she would have never just gone and left him
00:03:55
didn't make sense Taylor was reported missing by her girlfriend Cassandra Waller Richard gigliotti was a detective
00:04:07
for the Pensacola Police Department the officer initially responded to this said she's an adult if
00:04:14
she wants to take some time off or take some time away she's more than welcome to do so
00:04:20
some time I went by I want to say close to a week or so the same reporting person Cassandra Waller come to the
00:04:25
station said that she still hadn't seen Taylor Wright still hadn't heard from
00:04:29
her and was growing a little more concerned as well as not returning home to Cassandra Taylor also failed to make
00:04:38
any phone calls to her son who she usually spoke with every evening I knew how she felt about her son Drake that
00:04:46
she loved him with all of her heart and she never would have just left him like that Taylor was building a new life in
00:04:53
Pensacola despite the distance from her old life and her child things seemed to be going well you have a mother who
00:05:01
consistently calls her child now suddenly not she has an application into to work at a police department she
00:05:08
wanted to just disappear why are you applying for jobs careers something was more than just a
00:05:14
missing person's case the police needed to speak to anyone who might have information about
00:05:23
Taylor detective Chad willite was assigned to the case well we investiga a Miss iners case
00:05:31
um the first person that we're going to talk to would be the reporting person
00:05:35
which would be Cassandra Waller in this case the last day that y'all were together can you kind of walk me through
00:05:43
that day she made me breakfast she made me like eggs and bacon and stuff and she
00:05:48
was in no worry for anything you know just like the M moment despite a few relationship issues
00:05:55
and some erratic behavior all was well but her girlfriend received a message later that day that was out of
00:06:05
character Cassandra didn't hear from Taylor again and she didn't return home Bridget Meers Jensen is the
00:06:14
assistant State Attorney initially when someone goes missing I think everyone is a suspect so
00:06:21
in this particular case we looked at Taylor's girlfriend Taylor's ex-husband possibly anyone that was
00:06:27
involved in her Private Investigations were police looked at Taylor's finances cameras that scann checks
00:06:35
revealed a sudden large withdrawal from an account that she shared with her ex-husband Taylor removed approximately
00:06:43
$100,000 in cash out of the joint account that they had and the judge had ordered Taylor to give the money back
00:06:53
based on her ongoing dispute with her ex-husband Jeff and the fact that there's $100,000 missing from the
00:07:01
account he is a potential suspect in the case we did contact Jeff Wright he was a
00:07:08
friendly enough guy still had custody of their child he gave us a little background that Taylor you know has from
00:07:17
time to time taken off and didn't communicate with friends but did agree that she would still communicate with
00:07:23
her son there was still one key person the police needed to speak with with a friend of hers called Ashley
00:07:33
MacArthur who Taylor had trusted with a large sum of money Ashley MacArthur was a friend of Taylor Ashley's husband
00:07:43
actually worked with Taylor in the Private Investigations industry and so that's how Ashley and Taylor
00:07:49
met Ashley MacArthur had worked briefly as a crime scen technician at the sheriff's office she also worked for her
00:07:57
family's Amusement arcade company which supplied video games to local businesses Cassandra Waller paints this
00:08:05
picture Taylor let Ashley hold a significant amount of money and that Taylor kept trying to get the money back
00:08:12
Taylor grew more and more concerned about this and expressed this to Cassandra Taylor wri's girlfriend told
00:08:19
the police that Ashley had promised to give Taylor her money back on September 8th she was like okay well Ash is coming
00:08:28
over we're going to go to Ash's bank and we're going to pick up my money Ash had
00:08:33
pulled up and I was like all right you know we hugged we kissed I love you I went my
00:08:42
[Music] way that intimate moment was the last time Cassandra said she saw Taylor she also claimed that Taylor had
00:08:53
a funny feeling about Ashley it seemed like you can parid she was talking about how she felt like
00:09:01
something just wasn't right with Ash like she wasn't sure if Ash had her
00:09:04
money or not because Taylor had been trying to get the money for like four or 5 days and I was like Taylor you know
00:09:11
she's probably been really busy you know she goes no cash she goes like I'm
00:09:15
telling you something just doesn't feel right with me I don't want to think this
00:09:19
but like I want to give you guys like whatever you guys need I be so wrong no I I'd rather you be wrong and have a
00:09:26
feeling or know something to tell us I to be mad at me cuz I like May or something as do even know
00:09:34
anything Cassandra's testimony meant the police were now becoming much more focused on Taylor's friend Ashley she
00:09:41
was called in for a chat to start with your relationship to Taylor okay she was more than happy to
00:09:52
cooperate and you all met how long ago about a year ago how often did y'all hang out
00:10:02
um probably once a week twice a week we kind of hone in on the day of The Disappearance with with Ashley and
00:10:11
really try to get her locked into a timeline the last day that you saw her was what day on Friday she discusses
00:10:20
going and picking up Taylor the morning of we went back to my house I believe and what
00:10:28
were what was your purpose purpose for going back there um to get the any of the papers that I had for her and the
00:10:35
money and stuff for her so the money was being kept at your house right how long
00:10:40
had the money been being kept there um it was only there for a few a few days where was it at before
00:10:48
that Taylor had it was Taylor trying to hide until she could recoup maybe funds that she had
00:10:55
spent was Taylor hiding this money with the hopes that they would just let it go
00:11:02
that was that was kind of an unknown Ashley gave a detailed account of what happened on September
00:11:11
8th I went to the gas station there to get a drink she was on the phone and I went in the store got a
00:11:20
drink and got her and her beer how much has she been drinking that day was she like intoxicated like she
00:11:28
didn't seem to be but I mean I don't drink at 10:00 in the morning either so I don't sure and
00:11:36
in fact I said something to her I was like beer at this time of the morning she was like well it's 5:00 somewhere
00:11:42
according to Ashley they proceed to Ashley's Family Farm out in East Milton this was a family farm that I had
00:11:51
instead we just drove out there and she was just team I guess she says Taylor rides
00:12:01
some of the horses and they um come back into Pensacola and Ashley says Taylor gets into an Uber and leaves her
00:12:11
residence she was fine she just said that she wanted to go have a beer and that she was going to get an Uber to
00:12:17
take her to go have a beer Ashley gives us permission to look into her cell phone at the time we kept the phone and
00:12:28
had the analyst plug it in and start start chipping away at downloading the police used the cell
00:12:35
phone data to check on Ashley's timeline of events then they tried to find evidence
00:12:41
for the route that Ashley said she and Taylor took we're looking for any kind of
00:12:48
surveillance cameras that we can find any kind of convenience stores that they may drive
00:12:53
past they began with the gas station that Ashley and Taylor went into on the last day to t er was
00:13:01
seen this is surveillance footage from a fuel station convenience store called Tom
00:13:08
Thumb as MacArthur going in purchasing some drinks she just grabbed a beer out of the cooler she's on the
00:13:17
phone here so it's presumed here that Taylor was likely in the vehicle she certainly
00:13:25
said that Taylor was in the vehicle the the video of Ashley in the gas station backed up her
00:13:32
timeline but when they got the cell phone data back Ashley's version of movements didn't match the root mapping
00:13:39
from her phone neither Ashley's cell phone or Taylor's cell phone ever goes over to
00:13:47
East Milton in fact their cell phon stay over in the area of that P station where
00:13:52
Ashley was observed making purchases inside the store we start looking for or any kind
00:14:00
of property that either of them may have connections to in that area we know that
00:14:06
Ashley her maiden name is Brit so we type in the last name Brit and it brings up Brit
00:14:15
Road the police discovered Ashley's family owned a farm on Brit Road just north of the gas station where she was
00:14:22
caught on [Music] camera it's nowhere near where Ashley said they were this is not the farm in East Milton
00:14:32
she's talking about it's in cantonement Bula area here in esami County detectives started to analyze the
00:14:40
inconsistencies in Ashley's version of events they also grew suspicious of her
00:14:46
eagerness to help during the investigation Ashley called several times inquiring about the case she would
00:14:53
ask what we were up to or what we had going on or if we' made any progress no
00:14:59
one else during the investigation called as half as many times as Ashley [Music]
00:15:05
did someone being too involved in the investigation by constantly calling the police is something that I've seen
00:15:12
before and it is again one of those circumstances where the person's probably overcompensating so they are
00:15:20
trying to show that they're concerned about their friend what they're trying
00:15:23
to sort of theatrically perform is the worry friend but what they're obviously
00:15:29
doing because that's not how normal people behave is they're obviously trying to get information about the case
00:15:35
so that they can adjust their story as needed and almost certainly doing something as unusual as this is going to
00:15:43
raise suspicions rather than qu them her bank records enabled the police to track down surveillance footage of
00:15:51
Ashley making a series of unusual transactions you can see a large sum of money in her her hand that she was
00:16:01
depositing into the ATM machines we also received the image of the check that uh Ashley had
00:16:10
deposited and you'll see various uh images of Ashley making various transactions crucial footage at the ATM
00:16:21
revealed inconsistencies in Ashley's version of events we get Ashley deposit depositing
00:16:29
Taylor's checks Taylor had checks made out to her in her name and yet Ashley's
00:16:34
on camera depositing them we look at Taylor's signatures spanning back months and the signature
00:16:43
on the back of the check that Ashley's depositing doesn't match the signature in another breakthrough Ashley
00:16:50
was caught on camera at a Home Depot store the day after Taylor disappeared she had an unusual shopping list
00:16:59
in the cart is concrete and potting soil this is an employee that's she's got
00:17:05
helping her push the cart and then she goes up and pays cash for the items when the police checked out
00:17:15
another one of Ashley's interview claims they were baffled Ashley told us that Taylor had
00:17:22
taken an Uber from her house we investigated that we learned she hadn't used Uber and quite some time we also
00:17:30
checked other ride share companies and none of those had any kind of records with Taylor still missing the way Ashley
00:17:39
MacArthur behaved was in complete contrast to Taylor's girlfriend Cassandra on the other hand we ask her
00:17:45
pass codes to her phone she gives them right over we ask her for consent to search everything she signs everything
00:17:50
open book it became quite apparent that Cassandra wasn't involved in Taylor's
00:17:57
disappearance Taylor's ex-husband Jeff Wright was in the Army and many miles away at the time
00:18:04
of her disappearance detective gigliotti was able to make contact with his command up
00:18:11
at his base and confirm that he's been at work the whole time and he hasn't
00:18:15
left U that area so he was it was easy to rule him out as any kind of potential suspect in the
00:18:22
case with Cassandra and Jeff in the clear all the evidence seemed to be pointing towards Ashley
00:18:30
Arthur the big question was is Ashley lying to us because she's hiding Taylor helping her hide out or is she
00:18:40
lying to us cuz she hurt her the police decided they needed another conversation with
00:18:46
Ashley at the same time they planed to search three Key Properties including the farm on Brit road we have teams in
00:18:55
place to execute all those at one time we o have myself and gigliotti we are going to conduct the interview here at
00:19:03
the police department everything was riding on this carefully planned operation the police needed Ashley to
00:19:11
reveal what really happened to Taylor and they needed to find hard evidence from the properties being
00:19:19
[Music] searched hi how you been doing when we were conducting an investigation we come across like I said
00:19:29
several things we wanted to confront her with the information at 12:10 you are in
00:19:36
here M we know that your aunt and uncle and Kyle own the farm there on Brit Road well at that point first time
00:19:46
really ever in our interviews with Ashley she changed her story Ashley initially told us she went
00:19:53
out to East Milton well you look at the cell records and it never went out to East Milton it's showing that you're
00:19:59
probably near that farm or if not at that farm and you're there when this is
00:20:05
the time when you're telling us that you're probably Milton or headed towards
00:20:07
the milon CU it's uh 12:10 in the afternoon 12:46 you're still covering the farm
00:20:16
1301 you're out here for quite a while then you leave around at least at 1344 what were youall doing out there at
00:20:24
this Farm we know y'all were there we picked up some um stuff that Taylor had there that we
00:20:32
had what was that she had store um some kind of lock box that she had actually now tells us that the two did in fact go
00:20:41
to the Brit Road farm that day this is the first time she'd ever mentioned this
00:20:46
why would you not tell us that or because she asked me not to tell anyone ever you know we're investigating a
00:20:55
missing person you called us dozens of times why not say hey we went out to this
00:21:01
location why why hold back and her excuse was is that Taylor just didn't want us to know that she went out
00:21:08
there which doesn't make any sense so you're the only one that was with her on
00:21:13
this day at this farm that you did not disclose to us I didn't do anything tell
00:21:18
you this if she's at that farm we're going to find her because we're
00:21:21
executing the search one out there right now that's fine but she's not going to
00:21:24
be there where is she at I don't know where she in her second interview when
00:21:28
she came in she had a completely different demeanor she was not as forthcoming she clearly did not want to
00:21:35
answer questions and she clearly did not want to be as helpful as she was initially the police were holding out
00:21:42
for information from the search teams that would enable them to keep Ashley MacArthur in
00:21:47
custody we're trying to prolong the interview as long as possible it was a very long time for during the interview
00:21:55
of not being contacted with Ashley holding back detective Chad willite decided to go in
00:22:03
hard me for a second don't cross the legs when I removed her chair and turned
00:22:10
it around I wanted to break down whatever defense she had if I can get her thinking about how uncomfortable she
00:22:17
is maybe she will slip up me for a second don't cross your legs on for a second don't let us tell your
00:22:30
story we're going to this is going to tell us what happened this is exactly the kind of thing that you'd
00:22:39
expect with What's called the read model of interrogations which is more akin to
00:22:43
good cop bad cop than other forms of interrogations or interviews and this idea of sort of physically cornering
00:22:50
somebody or physically intimidating someone by changing the room is very in line with that
00:22:57
technique don't let us tell us something that may not be true tell us what happened I think at
00:23:04
this point I need an attorney because it seems to be that you'll think that I did
00:23:09
something to her okay I respect that with no solid evidence to keep Ashley in custody they had to release
00:23:23
her it almost feels to a degree like you failed right because as an investigator
00:23:29
you want that confession uh and we didn't get it everything was now resting on the search at the farm on Brit Road
00:23:37
detective gigliotti made contact with the team on site I happen to call one of the sergeants at the time while he's on
00:23:46
the phone with me he's yelling in the background we have a body unquestionably we have
00:23:56
Remains the police had to confirm who the remains belonged to a unique item of jewelry helped
00:24:06
identification with had pictures of Taylor's necklace she commonly wore uh Cassandra said she was wearing it the
00:24:12
day of The Disappearance and sure enough the necklace was [Music] there Taylor's Body was discovered on
00:24:21
the other side of a fence in an area that was kind of wooded she was wrapped up in a tarp
00:24:29
she was covered with concrete and potting soil I will never forget the day that they announced you know they had found
00:24:37
her body it was difficult cuz Not only was she murdered that her body was put in a
00:24:45
grave that she just left her there to be it's it's awful they were able to determine pretty
00:24:55
quickly what appeared to be uh bullet wound to the back of the skull the remains are taken over the
00:25:04
medical examiner's office to confirm cause of death which was later determined to be a gunshot wound to to
00:25:10
the back of Taylor's head once the body was located everyone was on board that
00:25:15
it was time to arrest Ashley and prosecute her Bridget Myers Jensen led the case
00:25:23
against Ashley in the summer of 2019 it was very significant to law enforcement and to the prosecution of the case that
00:25:30
Taylor's Body was actually located Ashley could have used any defense I mean she could have come up with
00:25:36
anything if we didn't have a body uh to to prove that Taylor had been actually
00:25:42
murdered the video surveillance footage proved vital for the prosecution the surveillance footage of
00:25:49
the store and Home Depot not only gave us the evidence that Ashley was purchasing concrete and potting soil but
00:25:56
what it does is shows us the accuracy of the cell phone records right because defense Council later in trial paints
00:26:04
this picture that the cell phone records can be inconsistent and inaccurate and we can show that well in
00:26:13
fact if the cell phone records show Ashley's phone covering the Tom Thumb and she's in fact on the surveillance
00:26:21
footage at the time similar to The Home Depot and surveillance is corroborating that that these in these phone records
00:26:28
are in fact very accurate it also helps show the jury there's always that doubt
00:26:35
well someone else could have deposited those checks into Ashley's account but
00:26:39
when they're on camera it's hard to refute the fact that she deposited them
00:26:45
a range of cameras were used to help capture Taylor's killer but the question remains why
00:26:52
would Ashley MacArthur kill Taylor Wright Taylor had withdrawn on approximately $100,000 from a bank
00:27:01
account that she should not have withdrawn based on court proceedings with her ex-husband in an effort to hide the
00:27:09
money I believe she gave the money to Ashley MacArthur to hold Ashley at the time was having an
00:27:18
affair and Ashley was showering this man with gifts the motive of the homicide was greed essentially Ashley Arthur was
00:27:29
in a position where Taylor needed her money back but Ashley couldn't give it
00:27:33
back because Ashley had spent it all we always want a profound psychological reason for murder and it
00:27:44
rarely exists it's often much more trivial and very often it's about things
00:27:48
like money this shouldn't be the kind of thing that motivates murder and yet much
00:27:54
smaller debts have also led to similar outcomes when I found out what had happened to
00:28:00
Taylor it was devastating devastating that somebody she obviously loved and cared
00:28:07
for did that to her that they would kill her over something is small as money you
00:28:14
it's just just awful after a week-long trial the verdict came in Ashley MacArthur was
00:28:28
found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder she was sentenced to life in prison women killing women is so rare
00:28:39
that we have almost no research on it at all but we can take a little bit of the
00:28:45
research on women who perpetrate violent crimes and what we know is that women who perpetrate gun crimes are more
00:28:52
likely to score high in certain Psychopathic traits so they're more likely for example to be low in empathy
00:28:58
they're more likely to be manipulative and that is a package that makes women
00:29:04
more likely to offend violently using guns but even that we we really know very little about why women perpetrate
00:29:11
violent offenses because so few women [Music] do Taylor was an amazing person she had
00:29:25
a huge heart and would she loved you she loved EIG and she she was just a breath of
00:29:33
fresh air she was very special to me yep she was there through a lot of things in
00:29:41
life I want people to know that she was a good person and that her life mattered okay give me a
00:29:51
kiss I love you [Music] Ashley and Taylor were just friends new friends but what do you do if you feel a
00:30:06
friend is not good for your mental [Music] health there's so much in novels and
00:30:14
movies and anecdotes from people around us about romantic relationships and breakups and what those look like and
00:30:21
how to end a relationship but there's so little comparatively on how to end a
00:30:26
friendship or how to deal with a friend who's not behaving appropriately or who
00:30:30
you're not getting on with anymore um or who's manipulating you and I think
00:30:35
there's a real knowledge Gap there and a skills Gap and what do you even do if
00:30:40
you've got a bad friend how do you get rid of this person in our next case a friend of a
00:30:47
friend proves fatal after being secretive about his past in the UK tin and wear [Music]
00:31:02
Sunderland a port city on the northeast coast of [Music] England home to Michelle
00:31:11
Hansen Michelle was 47 years old she had five kids and one grandchild she was very close to them all her children
00:31:19
often spoke about sharing secrets for her they found it very comfortable to talk to her and they felt like they
00:31:24
could tell her anything Michelle was known as a very um outgoing person she had quite a lot of friends she was very
00:31:30
family orientated love going to parties L singing she was generally the life and
00:31:35
soul of the party in early 2022 Michelle invited friends and family to come over for a
00:31:43
drink but after going quiet the day after a family member checked in on her and was confronted by a devastating
00:31:54
scene Michelle's body was found by a family member face down on the floor she
00:32:00
had about 29 uh stab wounds to her neck and paid to have blood force trauma to her head as
00:32:07
well there was a br and plate nearby and she was found with porcelain in in her hair as
00:32:14
well it was a brutal attack that ended in Michelle's death when the police arrived they
00:32:23
cleared the scene taped the area off looked around for evidence any sort of forensic details that they
00:32:30
could find they found blood on a window pane in the bathroom they also found empty
00:32:37
bottles of alcohol the police sent the evidence off for DNA testing Michelle's body was sent for an
00:32:49
autopsy a family member told the police about a possible suspect who was seen with Michelle the night she had friends
00:32:57
over [Music] shell appeared to be quite comfortable in his company she was snuggling up to
00:33:05
him she even was said to have uh looked like she found him quite attractive when
00:33:10
the family member left she said that she was fine the family member gave the police a
00:33:16
rough description of the man and his name Alexander Carr the police urgently needed to speak
00:33:27
with Alex as soon as Alex car has been highlighted as a suspect or a person of interest
00:33:33
then the police will have gone and started to investigate where he might be his whereabouts he was a current student so
00:33:42
they were seen if he'd had student lodgings or contacted his friends on the call police started looking for
00:33:51
surveillance footage tracking back to the time Michelle's body was found they were aware that he didn't
00:33:59
have access to a vehicle so the obvious way in which someone would leave the locality would be to use public
00:34:08
transport on December 2nd a man matching Alexander car's description was captured
00:34:15
by bus surveillance cameras Ray Evans is a forensic image analyst who works regularly with the
00:34:26
police we know that he's a white male we can see that he has a shaved head the
00:34:32
shape approximately of his ear he's wearing a backpack that would give the police um a little more
00:34:42
information so the footage could be used for tracking the time the date and the location we can then utilize that
00:34:51
footage to track people across a location for a certain amount of time that would be very useful cuz it it
00:34:58
would place somebody in a particular position the bus footage also helped the police work out where Alexander Carr was
00:35:07
heading buses have a you know specific routes if they've got footage of him getting on the bus being on the bus and
00:35:14
then getting off the bus it would tell you approximately which direction he's
00:35:18
going in it's all about getting that little bit of information that allows the police to assess what the next step
00:35:25
might be of a person that they're looking for was very very useful indeed Professor Coral dando is a
00:35:34
forensic psychologist the footage revealed important details about Alexander Carr
00:35:40
which proved helpful for the police investigation it reveals information about him about his distinctive walk we
00:35:48
refer to that as a gate so the way in which people walk has been used quite a lot to identify individuals even when we
00:35:56
can't see their face so he's got this sort of swagger his feet are turned out
00:36:01
and he does swagger from one side to another and it is quite an unusual walk as the last known person to see
00:36:10
Michelle the police needed to speak with Alexander Carr but he was proving difficult to track
00:36:19
down Alexander car was known as a a bit of an urban survivalist he was used to spend time outdoor a lot that was one of
00:36:29
his Hobbies he's had periods of homelessness and I think they've been at various
00:36:34
places around the country it would have taken them a while to track him down in terms of looking at all the particular
00:36:43
areas of the country that he might be but police received a tip off and moved in to raid the
00:36:55
property down this is footage from mobile phone it was filmed by a neighbor you'll notice that
00:37:05
they are armed police come the door down it's important to get the suspect quickly because if he turns out to be
00:37:14
the perpetrator the murderer then he's a danger to other people they didn't know if he was inside and
00:37:31
after several attempts to coax Alex out they entered the property Alex was not inside but the
00:37:39
police found a jacket heavily stained with Michelle's blood you wouldn't expect to see things
00:37:46
such as blood hair bodily fluids unless he'd been involved in some sort of violent incident with
00:37:55
her Alexander Carr was is now the prime suspect in Michelle's murder and he was
00:38:00
on the run a huge Manhunt was launched the police were trolling through CCTV footage the police were urging people
00:38:09
not to approach him if they saw him he was someone who enjoyed being outside he considered himself to be an urban
00:38:16
survivalist so no one knew way he could be at all with a killer on the loose news of
00:38:23
Michelle's death was met with sorrow and alarm no one could really believe what
00:38:29
happened people had heard about the uh the violent we that she she died there was a lot of fear and uh quite a lot of
00:38:37
shock it was unclear why anyone would murder such a well-loved member of the community Michelle's daughter Shannon
00:38:45
Brown appealed to the public to help catch her mom's killer my mom was a caring kind and
00:38:53
loving person she would never hurt anyone even if someone did something to her she will forgive them because she
00:38:59
always saw the good in people please if you have any information which can help the place
00:39:04
with that investigation don't hesitate to get in touch with them any little piece of information could help our mom
00:39:11
deserves Justice thank [Music] you the charity Crim Stoppers put Alexander Carr on their most wanted list
00:39:22
it offered a £10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest [Music] the police also made the decision to
00:39:30
release the footage from the bus the reason it's given to the public is to jog their memory to see if they've
00:39:37
seen this person on that particular day and that then gives the police something
00:39:41
that they can you know tie into and uh refer back to so it's it's useful as
00:39:47
very useful as reference obviously the the hope is that they will strike gold and someone says
00:39:54
well I know that person very well and I can vouch that um this is the person who
00:40:00
I think it is but Alexander had slipped off the radar he was on the run for quite a
00:40:07
while and as the deers went by the police were growing more and more concerned as were the
00:40:13
community during the investigation the police received the DNA results from the blood at the murder
00:40:20
scene it was a direct match for Alexander Carr as the police dug further into Alexander
00:40:30
Carr's history they found a disturbing pattern of violence in 2010 car was sentenced to 3
00:40:39
and a half years in prison for a hammer attack it would be likely that someone that's got a background of attacking
00:40:48
another human being with a hammer violent nasty aggressive will go on to be offend
00:40:58
Alexander carrr posed a real danger to society and he was still on the loose 18 days in counting then the
00:41:08
police got another tip off there was information that car was in the north London area police then focused her
00:41:16
attention on the upper Hol railway station police moved in to arrest him you move move
00:41:27
move do not move police hands up Alex you got armed police pointing weapons at you laser guided sights on the canvas a
00:41:39
knife is used for Access we're going to open this door you do not move okay you
00:41:44
follow instructions you understand do not move no on the left understand three loaded automatic rifles
00:42:00
get stay where you are pointed inside the tent typically one wouldn't want to go
00:42:09
and do a complex arrest such as this in Woodland in the dark he's a known violent offender with a violent history
00:42:20
so they will be concerned that he's got a weapon anything about your person which
00:42:26
could harm us sh no no good and they will also be concerned for their own safety as well as his
00:42:37
safety the W how know at this particular point he's managed to evade arrest for a certain
00:42:45
number of weeks so that may have given him confidence that actually he was being very smart being very clever and
00:42:53
maybe didn't think he was ever going to be apprehended Alexander Carr was transported back to
00:43:01
the Northeast David Huntley was in the court on the first day of his trial when I arrived at court he seemed
00:43:09
quite disheveled and quite bewildered uh didn't really seem to know where he was
00:43:12
at the time he'd been on the run for over two weeks living in a tent so he he
00:43:16
wasn't in the best frame of mind at that point everyone was quite pleased that
00:43:20
this suspect had finally been caught during the trial the full details of what happened on the the night of
00:43:27
Michelle's murder became clear Michelle met car earlier that night she invited him into her home they
00:43:37
shared drinks they had a laugh together a family member actually uh arrived at the property as well saw them both when
00:43:45
the family member left Paul was left alone with Michelle that's when he carried out the brute La
00:43:52
tuck he chalked her smashed a plate over our head he beat her up pretty badly as
00:43:59
well as stabbing her around 29 times in the neck after the murder he tried to find a
00:44:07
key to get out uh couldn't find one had to resort to climb out a bathroom window
00:44:11
and Escape that way at first Alexander Carr pleaded guilty to manslaughter with diminished
00:44:21
responsibility Alex car has quite a complex psychological back ground in the past he has had a lot of
00:44:31
mental health episodes he has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and
00:44:38
psychosis and also some borderline personality disorders there can be triggers that can
00:44:46
trigger a serious episode or incident and when that happens that individual then can suffer um catastrophic
00:44:57
drop in their mental health and that can sometimes uh result in very violent Behavior despite KN finew well about his
00:45:09
mental health condition his his mental illnesses his previous psychosis uh he knew that if he consumed drinking drugs
00:45:16
that it would affect him badly and he chose on that night to to make that decision and self-medicate um and and do
00:45:24
exactly what he knew he shouldn't have done and that was drinking and and taking drugs and it ended in the worst
00:45:30
way possible for Michelle Alexander Carr pleaded guilty to Michelle Hansen's
00:45:39
[Music] murder he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 19 years Michelle's family were were left
00:45:52
devastated and completely broken he took the mother's life away from them and uh
00:45:59
they'll never forgive him for that they've been left traumatized and they'll never be able to get that time
00:46:04
back that they shared with her [Music]
