Is my crown good? Yeah, it's fine. >> Oh my god, there's so many. >> Yeah, it looks [laughter] good.
00:00:08
>> That was so mean. [laughter] Did you get that on camera so we could put it on the internet and have people
00:00:13
see that Ash is the mean one? >> I was kidding. I said, "Is my crown okay?" And she literally goes, "Yeah,
00:00:19
it's fine. [laughter] >> What's my name?" [gasps] >> Oh, >> what? [laughter] Ah, [music]
00:00:37
[music] what's your name? [laughter] Give it back. My leg. Actually, your leg. >> Put that in the out takes. [snorts]
00:01:00
>> [laughter] >> Wait a [ __ ] second. Wait a [ __ ] second. Are you kidding me?
00:01:10
>> That is so scary. [clears throat] >> Just going to just [panting] I [laughter] don't even know how to
00:01:24
I'm so upset. Nicholas, what? >> I can't see you. [screaming] [laughter] >> I'm sorry.
00:01:35
>> I DON'T WANT TO BE PERCEIVED. [laughter] >> I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. [clears throat] I don't know why that
00:01:43
got to me. [laughter] >> I don't know why that got to me. I just >> stressed. >> I'm so stressed.
00:01:51
>> Call him. >> I told him. >> Who' you tell? You're talking so much, Nicholas. Hey, weirdos. I'm Asha
00:01:59
[laughter] >> and this is haunted. >> Next to me. >> Who's next to you? >> I said I was stressed.
00:02:11
>> Are you next to Mikey the the gay with his hand up? [laughter] All right, I guess we'll just put all that in the
00:02:30
beginning and then we'll say, [laughter] >> "Hey weirdos, I'm Ash. I'm Elena. >> And this is morbid." We are off to a
00:02:38
[ __ ] iconic start. To be honest, >> I don't think it's ever started that hot and heavy.
00:02:46
>> 2026. >> 2026. Um. >> Wo. >> Wow. I forgot all the things I was going to say to you, but um we're just comfy
00:02:52
queens today. >> We are comfy >> queen. >> Queens. [laughter] So, pause what you're
00:02:57
doing. Go if you're driving like pause safely and get comfy and then resume and be a queen or a king,
00:03:05
>> whatever you prefer. >> Whatever you feel. >> Um or the >> So, we wanted to read you some haunted
00:03:11
ass listener tales today cuz it's been a while, I think, since we did like a purely haunted one,
00:03:16
>> which is weird that apparently. Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. Nicholas knew that. >> Nicholas agreed.
00:03:24
>> Um >> that's weird. It's weird that this is the one we chose for today. Like we're
00:03:28
like, "You know what? Haunted houses. Let's go with that." >> And Nicholas is like, "I'm here." And
00:03:33
just to explain why we were so freaked out at the beginning of this, if you like watched the beginning of this, um,
00:03:38
we while we were setting up, our our film guy, our camera, our cameraman, Aiden was say, what did we Oh, Mikey put
00:03:46
on like Ghost Tube, which we always have, which is Nicholas, but it was like the wrong voice. And Aiden was like,
00:03:51
"Okay, Nicole, [laughter] >> are you in on Nick?" >> Do you know? >> Wait, that's the wrong voice. I was
00:03:58
like, "Who is that? >> Get her out of here. [laughter] >> Who is that? What's your name?
00:04:04
>> You, Nicole. >> Get out of here. >> Okay, we don't have to go after Nicole. >> Where's Nicholas?
00:04:08
>> Cuz it was a like a woman's voice. And then when Nicholas came on, he was he said like a bunch of things and then he
00:04:13
said Nicole. >> I can't get over that. >> And he said so much. And now he's just
00:04:18
being quiet. >> I know. Cuz it's really dark in here actually >> because one of the last things he said
00:04:22
was stressed. And I wanted >> It was after Mikey screamed. >> I think he's like, "I'm stressing you
00:04:27
guys out." Sorry. We haven't we haven't done a listener tales episode in a little while. Recorded one.
00:04:33
>> It's been like over a month. >> So, I think he's like he had a lot to say. >> He was like, "We haven't hung out in a
00:04:39
while. Like, let's let's do this." Oh, am I not speaking into this? >> Speaking of your microphone. Sorry.
00:04:45
>> That was genuinely terrifying. That was really scary. >> Wow. All right. Um, what what other
00:04:50
things do we have to tell you? We're really trying to get sponsored by soda. >> Yeah. [laughter] I really generally soda
00:04:58
across the board. I want lollipop. Listen. Listen brands. You get the first one free.
00:05:04
>> First one free. Dr. Pepper. >> We want O lollipop and Dr. Pepper. Eye contact. Oh, okay.
00:05:11
>> To sponsor [laughter] us. You got that? I think you have to take a sip after you
00:05:16
cheers or it's bad luck. And I didn't hear that anywhere. It's just my intuition.
00:05:20
>> I believe you. >> Okay, thanks. >> I'm going to go with it. >> So, yeah. I actually just spent like so
00:05:24
much money directly at the lollipop store because I couldn't find the Shirley Temple flavor anywhere.
00:05:29
>> I love that. >> So, I did buy a case of 12. >> I really like that commitment.
00:05:33
>> Yeah. [clears throat] I got the orange cream, too. >> Oh, I love orange cream. Anything.
00:05:36
>> Me, too. >> Sorry, I was like crying, laughing. So, >> out of fright. Out of fright. Out of
00:05:42
pure uncomfortability. >> Yeah, >> it was it was spooky up in this [ __ ] >> Yeah. Hello.
00:05:48
>> Wow. I'm all thrown. >> All right. Let's start, I guess. Let's start. Haunted houses.
00:05:53
>> Haunted houses and haunted morbids and haunted haunted pods. >> Pod Labs. Yeah. All right. Well, this
00:05:58
one is tail one. Linda, the friendly ghost with slightly possessive tendencies. All right, Linda. Hello. I
00:06:05
must start with the obligatory graveling with appreciation for the many hours I have gotten to spend listening to your
00:06:10
glorious productions of the most interesting topics that satiate my need for mental stimulation outside of work
00:06:16
and motherhood. That was a great sentence. That really was. I absolutely love delving into crime, haunting,
00:06:21
spooky things, and wild stories with you, too. Shout out to the molasses flood episode. Just what in the hell?
00:06:27
>> I also That was a crazy one. >> That was I also absolutely live for your listener tales and thought I might have
00:06:32
something interesting to share. Let's take it back and set the scene. My name is Cassie, not Casey. Please. And yes,
00:06:39
of course, you can use my name and any others mentioned in this story. It's cuz you said please.
00:06:44
>> Yeah, if you didn't say please, I would have been like, "Nope, calling you Cassie or Casey, whichever one." Casey.
00:06:48
>> Casey. Calling you Casey. >> We're gonna call you Cassie because you're a polite queen.
00:06:51
>> It's true, queen. >> So, I live in North the North Georgia area. The story takes place in a town
00:06:57
called Thank you so much for the pronunciation because that's um intimidating. >> That is intimidating.
00:07:02
>> Delana. >> Yep. >> Delana, which was the site of the major of a major gold rush and is now a cute
00:07:09
little mountain town that is loved for its vineyards, Christmas lights, and is highly visited during leaf looking
00:07:13
season. >> I feel like that's a Hallmark movie. It sounds like it. Yeah, it feels like
00:07:18
>> locals refer to themselves as nuggets. Oh, yeah. This is Hallmark. >> Is this real?
00:07:23
>> Like gold nuggets. Lol. Also, uh, of significance was the Cherokee population
00:07:28
that inhabited the area before the gold rush days. In fact, the word Delana, correct?
00:07:35
>> Oh, look at me. I did it. >> Look at you. >> Is the Cherokee word for gold. >> Oh, [ __ ] Cool.
00:07:39
>> That makes sense. My husband, Tristan, and I, I'm so hoping that I'm saying that right, and just punch me if I'm
00:07:45
not. Um, we're high school sweethearts and had been engaged since my senior year of high school. I'm obsessed with
00:07:50
that. And you said much to the non-delight of my entire family. [laughter] >> I was historically a very goodie to
00:07:56
shoeer type. So, it shocked my parents when I moved in with him the day after I graduated high school. We rented/ived
00:08:02
with his dad while I decided to pursue the college route. We got married four years later and finally decided as I was
00:08:08
finishing up my last year of college that it was time we found our own home to start our family in. We didn't have a
00:08:13
lot of money, but we were determined to buy a starter home that we could raise at least one or two little kids in for a
00:08:18
little while. That's so cute. I will never forget finding our home. We saw the house online and initially dismissed
00:08:25
it, but one day we just decided to go check out the house. The driveway was a dirt road, not uncommon in our area, but
00:08:31
it was not well-maintained. Maintained. I said that weird. Not well mainten. >> Why were they not maintaining it? Well,
00:08:39
who would maintana? >> You're going to Montana. >> Mana, guys. >> I bet Casio would maintana.
00:08:44
>> Yeah. Okay. [laughter] >> So would Nicholas wake up. >> You were wild in the [clears throat]
00:08:51
>> I don't know. Maybe stay asleep. So the driveway, I said that already. >> It wasn't mental.
00:08:58
So in fact, we had to park and walk up the driveway because it wasn't mentioned that our cars would make it up the hill.
00:09:05
We all got to the top of the driveway out of breath and slightly dying. But we go inside and we fall in love with this
00:09:11
house. Trust and I weren't sure why uh it was in our budget, but assumed it had to do with the difficult driveway. It
00:09:17
was very cabiny with large windows that overlooked the trees in the front of our
00:09:21
3 acre property. That's a lot of acreage. We found out that the property was a foreclosure, but we didn't know
00:09:27
why. We put an offer in, went through the hideous process of buying the damn thing, and eventually it became our home
00:09:32
sweet home. We were so thrilled to have something to call ours, and started to move in the moment that we could. Nobody
00:09:38
actually tells you how hilac hellacious it is to buy your first home. >> Oh, yeah. The process is wild.
00:09:43
>> Like, of course, you're so lucky to be able to buy a home, and like you appreciate that, duh. But
00:09:48
>> the underwriting is that Yeah, the process is wild. underwriting almost took me out several times.
00:09:53
>> I think the process is meant to see if you are strong enough. >> It is. Yeah. They're like only the
00:09:58
strong at homes. It's nuts. [laughter] >> So, that's a joke. >> That's a joke. >> So, that's when it all began. We had the
00:10:05
windows and doors open as we began to bring items into our new home. Every time we dropped off stuff into the house
00:10:10
and then went back outside, as soon as we stepped back outside, bam, [ __ ] went
00:10:14
down. I'm [laughter] just kidding. The door would slide behind us. >> Sid, super [ __ ] Sorry, I had to finish
00:10:18
it. >> You have to. At first, we thought, eh, just some wind, right? But it happened
00:10:22
every single time that we'd go back outside. Almost like something wanted us out. Oh,
00:10:27
>> we were only moving a few things in to spend the night there as we had a very
00:10:30
busy week. So, all we really wanted to move in was like a mattress, some charging cords, and some simple
00:10:35
toiletries uh and items, toiletry items, until we could officially move everything in. We were standing in the
00:10:41
kitchen discussing how weird the door situation was when all of a sudden, we heard a woman's voice coming from the
00:10:46
bedroom down the hallway. We both looked at each other and decided surely that couldn't be coming from inside of the
00:10:53
house. >> Surely >> it must have echoed off the hills outside and through the open windows.
00:10:57
Right. >> Right. >> Right. Right. >> We decided just to ignore it and go sit in the empty living room having a beer
00:11:02
to celebrate our accomplishment. >> You just ignored that. >> That's crazy, you guys.
00:11:05
>> Like that's that goes crazy. >> That's when we're watching you on on the what's it called? Scary movie on TV. On
00:11:13
the scary movie and we're like what are you doing? >> Don't ignore that. go investigate.
00:11:18
>> Mhm. >> So, we sat on the floor and started chatting when we realized we were
00:11:22
missing one of our dogs. We have two dogs. Both are rescued. One of our pups, Pazzy, that's so cute.
00:11:29
>> Was rescued from a very abusive home. >> In fact, those people who did that, >> kill them myself. In fact, when we first
00:11:35
brought him into our previous home, I will you hurt animals. I'll bare hand. [snorts]
00:11:40
>> That's right. It's fine. So, when we first brought him into our previous home, he would not get on the couch to
00:11:44
sit down and re and relax. We finally realized this must have meant that he wasn't allowed on the furniture at his
00:11:50
old home and was probably abused if he tried to get on the couch. >> I hate that.
00:11:55
>> I know. It took months to finally show him that he was allowed to lay on the couch. And once he finally realized
00:12:00
this, he then spent months not wanting to leave the couch. >> I love that. >> I love that.
00:12:05
>> Long story short, he eventually opened up to us and never wanted to leave our
00:12:09
side. So, it was strange that we didn't know where he where he was in this moment. We started calling him, which he
00:12:14
would always respond to, but we couldn't find him inside or outside. We decided to go check our unfinished basement, but
00:12:20
the lights were off down there, so we were pretty sure that he wouldn't be down there. To our surprise, he was in
00:12:25
the basement in the dark, calmly laying beside a drain in the middle of the room
00:12:30
as if it was a longlost friend. What? My husband and I looked at each other like,
00:12:35
"What the [ __ ] is going on here?" PY refused to leave the area until about 30 minutes later. He came back upstairs and
00:12:42
laid beside us. What a weird start to being homeowners, but >> we decided to ignore the weirdness. I
00:12:48
mean, we did just sign a 30-year contract, so what were we going to do about it anyways?
00:12:52
>> I mean, there is that underwriting. >> Not as easy. Fast forward about a month.
00:12:56
I was working the night shift on a nursing home in town. It was the weekend and Tristan didn't have to work, so he
00:13:01
decided to have a few drinks and play some video games. We're both night owls, so I wasn't surprised to get a text from
00:13:07
him around 3:00 a.m. Babe, that's not night owls. That's something. You guys are morning owls. You guys are
00:13:13
nocturnal. You might be. I was surprised, however, when he asked if I had ever seen condensation form inside
00:13:20
of a house before on only one window area. I thought to myself, he's had a few drinks. He must be messing around/
00:13:27
cuckoo nuts bananas. >> Yeah. He sent me a picture and I immediately saw what looked like to me
00:13:33
in the condensation a nun kneeling crying and praying. >> I want to look at clouds with you.
00:13:42
>> What? >> Do you have a picture of this? >> Do we have a p? We have a picture of
00:13:48
this. Okay. Yeah. >> I called him and I said, "Do you see what I see?" And he said, "I see the
00:13:53
condensation." And [laughter] then I told him what I saw. >> Obviously fair. He eventually saw it,
00:13:58
too. An hour later, it just disappeared. And we've never had another episode of condensation inside our house just
00:14:04
occurring randomly. >> I can't wait to see this condensation. >> So, what do we do? We pretend. We
00:14:09
pretend it's no big deal and we move on. >> Guys, I'm yelling at you so much. >> Guys, I'm the audience.
00:14:15
>> I don't know what you're supposed to do, but stop ignoring it. >> Honestly, valid. I don't know what
00:14:20
you're supposed to do either, but ignoring it feels crazy. >> But what what do you do? I don't know.
00:14:27
>> You call Ghostbusters. >> I don't know. Write a story about it. >> Here [laughter] you are.
00:14:32
>> So, the next weird thing that happened was a few months later, Treston lost his
00:14:35
wallet and we looked all over the house, in the cars, in the laundry, everywhere
00:14:40
we could think of, and could not find his wallet. We decided that he must have lost it at the store earlier in the day.
00:14:45
We were running late to go to a movie, but decided to double check our bed sheets since we were chilling on our bed
00:14:49
earlier, and he likes he always likes to keep his wallet in his pocket. >> Brown chicken, brown cat. [laughter]
00:14:56
Just chilling. >> Just chilling. We took all of the sheets off, shook them out, and made up the bed
00:15:01
since we were already moving the sheets around. Uh, but time was running out and
00:15:05
we still wanted to get to the movie. So, we left. When we came home, his wallet was placed in the center of our bed on
00:15:11
top of the sheets. We both felt weird about that, but we were highly doubtful with our driveway
00:15:17
situation and the remote location of our house that somebody would have actually
00:15:21
come into our house. And also like Why was it so crackly? Why was it so crackly? Why was it so crackly? Why the
00:15:34
[ __ ] was it so crackly? Why was it so crackly? Why >> bird? >> Bird. >> Definitely.
00:15:41
>> Bird. Definitely. [laughter] >> Did he say bird? Did he say bird? Bird is the word
00:15:49
[laughter] he said. He's kind of on to a bird. Definitely. Okay, >> bird. >> All right. [laughter]
00:15:57
>> Definitely. >> You know, the first one was so crackly >> and it was when they were saying like
00:16:03
because our driveway is so kooky crazy that like what somebody's not coming down and going into our house. And in my
00:16:08
head I was like, I don't know about that. And he was like, not exactly. >> And it's like him being like, not
00:16:14
exactly someone coming down your driveway and into your house, >> but someone's in there.
00:16:20
>> Why was it so crackly? I ask again >> that I don't know. [laughter] I ask again with panic in my
00:16:25
>> scary cuz then the second two were not. >> Sorry. >> It's [cough and clears throat] so dark
00:16:29
in here. >> Okay. >> Okay, Nicholas. So, thank you for that. >> Thanks. We both felt weird about that
00:16:37
and that and that. >> That's literally the next line and like correct and also how I feel. But we were
00:16:43
highly doubtful about the driving situation. Lyd. So, we decided we possibly had a ghost and she was
00:16:49
actually for me. >> What? He said looking for me. It sounded like he said wuang for me [laughter] and
00:16:56
I said, "What exactly does that mean?" Wuang for me. [laughter] He said, "Wooang forever."
00:17:10
He said, "I know you're thinking bone thugs. [laughter] Meet me at the >> What? What did he say?"
00:17:16
>> HE SAID, "NOT LIKELY. [laughter] HE said not bone [ __ ] for me. Not likely. He really said wuang for me.
00:17:27
>> He said [laughter] he said I am not into Mimi at the cross. Listen to you, [ __ ]
00:17:33
>> Oh my god. [laughter] Wooang for Nicholas. >> You're on one today. I really love it.
00:17:40
[laughter] >> So, but he did say looking for me. So, that was more spooky. >> I mean, we are always looking for me.
00:17:47
[laughter] Where are you? >> Where are you, Nicholas? >> So, the ghost is helpful. Other than
00:17:53
just a feeling a little bit unsettled about things moving around and the possibility of some ghost just hanging
00:17:57
out, we never felt any fear. So, we just continued on. About a year later, I was
00:18:02
tidying up the kitchen when I found this random small piece of cut fabric lying on the island in our kitchen. It was
00:18:08
fabric that I had never seen before. And being the crafty person in the house, if
00:18:12
there was extra fabric laying around, it would have been bought by me. Since I didn't recognize this fabric square
00:18:18
thing, I just threw it away. But later that day, my husband and I were getting things out to cook for dinner, and the
00:18:23
fabric was on the counter again. I asked my husband, "Why did you get this out of
00:18:27
the trash? Is this something of yours?" And he said, "What are you talking about? I didn't put that there." I
00:18:32
picked up the fabric and noticed it was cut from the exa the exact same fabric as the piece that I found earlier, but
00:18:40
it was a different shape and a slightly different part of the pattern. I went to
00:18:44
get the other piece out of the trash to compare and see if maybe it was the same
00:18:47
piece of fabric that randomly fell out of the trash and back onto my kitchen island because that makes sense.
00:18:52
>> Why not? >> But the trash had been taken out recently. >> Floor, as floor things go, so there was
00:18:58
no way that it was the same piece of fabric. Where was this coming from? If there was a ghost in the house, where
00:19:03
was she keeping this fabric? And why did she want me to have some? The house was
00:19:07
completely empty when we moved in, so I felt a little uneasy about this mystery fabric. And then I also noticed that the
00:19:13
pattern kind of resembled a face, which I will attach this picture to. >> What? >> What did that say?
00:19:20
>> She hides. >> She was literally just saying if there is a ghost giving me this fabric, why
00:19:29
does she want me to have it? >> And he said she hides. >> Like she was referring to that ghost as
00:19:34
a she and then he just referred to she hides. >> Okay, he's putting in his guess.
00:19:39
[clears throat] >> Yes. Thank you, Nicholas. >> He said she hides. I would be worried in
00:19:42
this scenario that it was somebody living in my walls or attic. >> Me too. I have the gnarliest chill all
00:19:48
of a sudden and I'm scared. >> Um yeah, I got goosebumpies. >> Oo, I feel like that feeling in That's
00:19:54
weird in my neck. >> She hides. >> That's ominous. That was a w moment. >> Yeah, I'm I'm continuously winging.
00:20:01
>> Yeah, >> weird. But alas, life moves on. We put a thumb tack in this fabric and put it on
00:20:06
our spir spiral staircase as I didn't want it to go missing. and more mystery pieces of fabric to show up. I decided I
00:20:13
was going to keep an my eye on this one. Life continued on and we could hear bumps in the night, knocking on her
00:20:18
headboard occasionally and, you know, hear a woman's voice every now and then. >> Oh, just, you know, very casual things.
00:20:25
>> Just that. Just that. >> Just that. But we decided to name our friendly ghost Linda.
00:20:31
>> I considered saging the space, but I decided that so far Linda hadn't been a true issue. I mean, how bad is a ghost
00:20:37
if she's finding your husband's wallet and kindly placing it on your bed for you,
00:20:41
>> honestly? And I really didn't want to piss her off by trying to get rid of her, so I just let it be. We had
00:20:45
considered moving, but surprise, I became pregnant and we decided to stay a little while longer and settle into new
00:20:50
parent life. >> Yay. >> We paved the awful driveway and we were enjoying our little treehouse cabin, so
00:20:56
why not? >> Yeah, >> I understand. [sighs and gasps] >> Yeah, he said, "I understand."
00:21:00
>> Yeah, he said, "I get it." That was really cute. >> He's like, "You know what? Yeah, that
00:21:05
makes sense." That was nuts. And if it makes sense to Nicholas, it makes sense to us.
00:21:08
>> Yeah. >> Unfortunately, the room we heard the woman's voice in often was the only
00:21:13
suitable place for a nursery. I don't know that you know the definition of suitable.
00:21:17
>> H Okay. >> Scary. >> It's a choice. >> I mean, I guess what are you going to do? Like, you can't put a baby in the
00:21:24
living room. >> Well, that's if it's the only suitable place, what are you going to do? Hey, I
00:21:29
often wonder if we did Evelyn a disservice by putting her in this room as it seems like she never slept. Was
00:21:35
that because of Linda keeping her awake by creeping around? Or does my baby just
00:21:38
have severe FOMO? >> Probably severe FOMO. I feel >> Linda doesn't strike me as someone
00:21:43
keeping your baby awake. >> No, but maybe it wasn't just Linda. Oh, >> or maybe it's the FOMO. She hides.
00:21:49
Either way, the last kind of major event, quote unquote, in the house happened when my daughter was about 5
00:21:54
months old. It was Thanksgiving morning and Treston had went out to hunt with his brother while I stayed home with
00:21:58
Evelyn. I was asleep when >> Did you hear that? >> Yeah. I also heard him say, "Witch."
00:22:08
>> What? >> Caution. >> Y'all heard that little knock, right? Okay. Okay. Can we put the lights on? Can
00:22:23
Ollipop save us from this? First one's free. [laughter] Oh my god, I'm scared. >> Oh my god.
00:22:30
>> Oh my god. Okay. [laughter] Okay. [snorts] Must breathe. Must breathe. Must breathe.
00:22:38
Okay. So, I was asleep when I heard a loud click and looked at the baby monitor and noticed that the light was
00:22:44
on. My sleepd deprived brain thought, "Why in the hell would my husband come home and just go flick Evelyn's light on
00:22:50
while she was sleeping?" >> Yeah. >> I'd be pissed. >> Yeah. But quickly I realized it had only
00:22:54
been 20 minutes since my husband left. So I went in and turned the light off, sent a thanks to God that EP was still
00:22:59
sleeping and then looked back at the baby monitor recordings to see if I could figure out what exactly was going
00:23:04
on. I had a recording of the room being pitch black and then heard that loud click that woke me up. Her room went
00:23:10
from pitch black to bright light as if the light switch has been turned on. Nobody there though. The light swift the
00:23:15
light switch just flicked up by itself. The [ __ ] I immediately went into panic
00:23:19
mode assuming that somebody had to have done some somebody had to have done that. So I grabbed my gun and tried to
00:23:25
find them, but I found no one. >> I was a little freaked out over the whole situation and I was over
00:23:30
>> slowly. >> I'll read slower. I'm sorry. >> He said I can't hear. >> He's like, "You read too [ __ ] fast."
00:23:36
I do get that a lot. >> Okay. >> So, I was overjoyed when my husband finally came home. We eventually decided
00:23:46
it was time to move closer to our family. They were about an hour from our house and began the process of selling.
00:23:52
I am going slower. We were ready to get a bigger home that could accommodate another kiddo. But weirdly, after
00:23:58
starting to discuss selling the house, I started to experience my phone flying off the shelf over my head and smacking
00:24:05
me in the face in the middle of the night. >> What? This happened multiple times. And
00:24:09
then one night, I heard, "God damn it!" and looked over and Tristan's phone was on his face. I said, "Is this happening
00:24:15
to you, too?" [snorts] >> Did he just yell hex? >> Axe. >> Axe. He talks about axes frequently.
00:24:23
>> He does, man. >> You got axe. >> You have axe. >> You got axe. [laughter] >> I do not have axe body spray. But
00:24:31
>> But do you have an axe? >> We do. >> Why? >> You don't. >> No, not that I know of.
00:24:37
>> To chop. >> I I don't frequently chop, but I don't think Drew does either. >> For your
00:24:50
>> [sighs] >> Bro, to be roasted from the afterlife like that is [snorts] crazy. You know what?
00:25:00
Let me confirm that I don't have an axe because now I feel weird. Text my hottest homie. [laughter]
00:25:07
>> What do you want to say to my hottest homie? >> Do we have an axe? I'm being bullied
00:25:11
from the afterlife. question mark. He's going to be like, "What the [ __ ] are you talking about [laughter]
00:25:17
anyway?" Oh, I have an axe. >> Yeah, that's I mean, he was like, "That would be pathetic if he didn't."
00:25:23
>> Yeah, I do. >> Yeah. Well, Drew has an axe >> to chop, you know. >> Cool. Thanks. I'll explain.
00:25:29
>> Wow. >> Later. >> He's like, "Wow, you need to explain right now." >> Well, yeah. Drew is probably like, "What
00:25:35
the actual fuck?" [snorts] >> Wow. Back with this. I have an axe. So, uh, la. So, you everybody's phones was getting
00:25:44
thrown at their faces and Tristan said that it happened multiple times over the last week. I said, "Me, too." And we
00:25:50
decided Linda was not pleased that we wanted to move. We started to only discuss moving when we were not home and
00:25:56
phone stopped being hurled at us in the middle of the night. Linda, if you love us, you got to let us go.
00:26:01
>> Oh, Linda. We finally moved, found a new house, and then surprise again. We were
00:26:05
pregnant. >> Yay. >> Yeah. And this time, we were having twins. Babies. Twins. So much babies.
00:26:10
Surprise of our life. >> Babies. >> Our new house has had zero activity. Making me making me believe that I was
00:26:16
not crazy the whole time. And we truly cohabitated with Linda the ghost for the last 5 years.
00:26:21
>> Yeah, you did. >> I think of Linda often and I kind of miss her even. >> Even if she was kind of a douche about
00:26:26
us moving out and possibly haunting my first born and leaving her with poor sleep habits for life, she never was
00:26:32
really out. >> It's difficult. >> It is difficult. >> It's difficult to leave someone behind,
00:26:36
you know. >> It is. Yeah, >> she never really was out to get us, I think. And I never really found out if
00:26:41
something happened at that house or if it was just the land. Honey, >> honey the land.
00:26:45
>> Honey the land. Was it a Cherokee woman or somehow truly or somehow truly an estranged nun? Was she so nice that she
00:26:53
rescued or that my rescued pup? >> Did he just say [ __ ] >> He said >> on no account.
00:27:01
>> On no account. >> He said no. >> He said on no account did I call you a [ __ ] He said poor.
00:27:07
>> Poor poor. But wow. Okay. All righty. [snorts] Uh la. >> Was it a Cherokee woman or somehow truly
00:27:16
an estrange nun? Was she so nice that my rescued pup loved her so much that he would go sit by her drain in the
00:27:22
basement? >> Maybe. Andrain. Why by the drain? Was she so helpful with my husband's wallet,
00:27:28
but would bring down her wrath via phone slams to our faces when she when we wanted to move? Where did she keep the
00:27:34
fabric all this time? These are valid questions. >> Anyways, [laughter] take it away, Ash.
00:27:38
Keep it weird, but not so weird that condensation appears on your window in the form of a nun crying and praying.
00:27:45
>> I'm on Tik Tok. >> I want to talk. >> I thought he said, "I'm on Tik Tok." [laughter]
00:27:51
And I said, "Maybe you should do that." >> Did he say, "I want to talk." >> I want to talk.
00:27:57
>> Nicholas, we can talk. >> We could talk. You're very talkative today. Maybe we should use the Ouija
00:28:03
board to try to talk to him. I know we should. [snorts] All of a sudden, I'm down with Ouija.
00:28:07
>> I know. Suddenly, you're just like, let's Ouija all day. >> I think the current state of the world
00:28:11
has shown [laughter] me that I don't have a lot to lose. >> You're not fearing Ouija.
00:28:15
>> No, I'm not fearing Ouija. I'm fearing different things, but >> you're prioritizing triaging your fears.
00:28:20
>> All right. So, here's >> But I do see it. >> I see the nun. >> And then Cassie gave us
00:28:26
>> The nun does not see me. >> Oh my god. >> It actually does like >> Wow. Oh, it has a whole face and like a
00:28:33
shroud kind of or like a sorry, a habit. A habit. >> You heard me. >> Hurt me? He hurt me.
00:28:41
>> Who hurt you? >> Who are you? >> I'll kill him. And look, it does look like they're kneeling.
00:28:46
>> Yeah, >> we'll have to post this. That's [ __ ] crazy. >> And you can see the whole face looking
00:28:50
up and crying. Crying. >> Yeah. >> Holy [ __ ] We're going to post this. >> That's actually nuts.
00:28:56
>> She heard me. >> Did they just Did he say that again? He said, "She hurt me."
00:29:01
>> She hurt me. >> So he hurt me and then she hurt me. >> Yeah. >> Who hurt you, Nicholas?
00:29:08
>> Is he talking about us? Do we hurt his feelings? >> Do we hurt you? I hope not.
00:29:14
>> This is the fabric. >> Do you see a face? >> Are we supposed to? >> I don't. >> Yeah, there's a face in it. Like Or
00:29:22
that's what Cassie thought, >> I guess. If you look to the side like >> Yeah, sort of.
00:29:28
>> Yeah. Huh? Damn. Strange fabric. That one was nuts. Oh, and their family is so
00:29:34
cute. >> Oh my god, they're adorable. >> Look at those babies. >> Love them. Oh, and the pups. Oh, look at
00:29:40
those pups. >> The pups are Meen and Py. >> Oh, stop it. >> Py's on the right. And on the bottom is
00:29:48
a cute name. >> On the couch. >> That was a good one, Cassie. I think you lived in a hot house.
00:29:54
>> What? >> Wash. I just took a shower. Okay. >> I showered last night. >> I am nice and clean.
00:30:03
[snorts] Rude. That was scary. Okay. All right, Cassie. So, that was really good.
00:30:10
>> Yeah. >> Let's see if I can read. All right. >> I hope you can. [laughter] >> So, this is called a classic haunted
00:30:16
house story. >> Classic. >> It's a classic. >> A classic. >> And we can read all names in this story
00:30:21
and share any and all pictures. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you. Dear Ashena, my name is
00:30:28
Alexi. Thank you for giving me the pronunciation and I stumbled upon your podcast years ago when co made the world
00:30:33
stand still and I suddenly had time to do things like search for interesting podcast to listen to while walking
00:30:39
around my hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Let's see. I can't get down. I have been
00:30:44
a huge fanboy from the first listen as I am drawn to all things paranormal and I
00:30:49
appreciate how you both breathe humanity into every single story y'all tell. >> That was so nice.
00:30:54
>> That was really nice. I teach middle and high school English. Hell yeah. And creative writing. And I love to write
00:30:59
poetry, songs, and short stories in my spare time. >> Hell yeah. >> What a creative badass. I always
00:31:05
appreciate good storytelling, which drew me into your pod. And while it is high in entertainment value, you also provide
00:31:10
some muchneeded nutrients for the soul. >> We're like chicken soup. >> Oh my goodness. Nutrients for the soul.
00:31:16
You are a writer. >> I'm a promoter of things I love. So, I managed to get my wife Kate and my
00:31:22
16-year-old daughter Pella hooked on Morbbit as well. I love that name. >> Family affair. I know. Pella is a cool
00:31:27
name. >> And that's awesome. Our cats, Steak and Potato, >> I'm obsessed. >> Will be fans of the pod one day. If you
00:31:34
ever decide to make a cat version, Meowid Meow, [laughter] >> I kind of love that.
00:31:39
>> I'm obsessed. >> Meowid. >> Meow. >> For as long as I can remember, I've been
00:31:43
a supernatural [ __ ] [laughter] >> George. George. George. >> I Nicholas is like George was too.
00:31:53
>> George was also a supernatural plot. >> Magnetized towards anything involving
00:31:57
ghosts, the paranormal, the unexplained and unsolved mysteries. That show was my
00:32:01
[ __ ] [ __ ] when I was younger and I've been binging the new version, too. Hell
00:32:04
yeah. >> Did you also watch that? And then Rescue 911. And are you that way because of
00:32:09
that? >> Rescue 911. >> Rescue 911. I think you were too young. >> Yeah, I watched Unsolved Mysteries.
00:32:13
Rescue 911 was just 911 calls, >> but they would dramatize them. >> Oh, >> but changed my life. And it was always
00:32:22
unsolved mysteries and then Rescue 911. And it was the most traumatizing and intense couple of hours of your
00:32:31
>> Did he say Satan? He >> sure did. >> Okay. It was really traumatizing, [laughter]
00:32:34
but like for 2 hours you were just locked in on the most [ __ ] up [ __ ] that was going to ruin your sleep that
00:32:39
night. >> Damn. >> Yeah. I used to walk uh watch on. >> I can't hear you. >> Can't or can cannot. Well, we can talk
00:32:47
louder. >> Okay. Yeah. Sorry, I'm not near my microphone. >> Oh, that maybe I leaned back.
00:32:51
>> That lady Judy that I used to live with, we would watch Unsolved Mysteries all
00:32:55
the time. >> A See, >> she knew what was up. >> That it like actually just gave me a chill
00:33:03
right now. >> Supernatural [ __ ] >> All right. Supernatural [ __ ] mysteries. We love it. We binge it. The unknown
00:33:09
terrifies me and intrigues me equally and thus has threaded itself throughout my entire life. From being caught
00:33:16
talking to invisible entities as an infant, revealing potential hints at at past lives as a toddler. I love that.
00:33:23
And literally seeing the ghost of a great-g grandandmother I had never met while she was in her body, sitting in
00:33:28
her favorite chair that my mom and I inherited. That's cool as [ __ ] On a genealogical deep dive, I discovered
00:33:34
that I have relatives who were convicted of murdering lovers and lovers who fell,
00:33:38
jumped, or were pushed off a balcony to their death and then allegedly haunted the grounds that witnessed their early
00:33:44
demise. [ __ ] is wild. >> What did he say? >> I'm leaving. >> You're leaving? >> What did he say? What did he say?
00:33:55
>> He said it's hard. [laughter] I'm leaving. Stupid. [laughter] >> Enraged. >> Oh no.
00:34:06
>> We're [laughter] not. It's not funny. I think I don't know. >> We're all very uncomfortable [laughter]
00:34:11
right now. >> Enraged. >> Enraged twice. >> Are you okay? I'm sorry. >> I'm sorry, Nicholas. We're not laughing
00:34:17
at your mom. >> Did he say enraged twice? He said it twice. >> Nicholas, we're not laughing.
00:34:22
>> We're not laughing at you. We're just very uncomfortable. And I laugh at funerals and it's not cuz I think
00:34:26
they're funny. It's because I'm very uncomfortable. Please don't be mad. >> Maybe he's just taking a second.
00:34:35
>> Maybe Maybe [laughter] he's just taking a >> I don't know. He left in a in a fit of
00:34:39
rage. >> He called us twice and he called us stupid. >> What did he say? >> Above.
00:34:50
>> Are you above us? And like this feels like a haunted house interactive experience.
00:34:55
>> No, it truly does. But this is your house, [ __ ] [laughter] You live here, Nicholas.
00:35:01
>> I don't have to. Okay, Nicholas. [ __ ] Um, okay. I'm scared. >> There are many experiences [laughter]
00:35:09
I'd love to share from the vault, but the story I chose to share first comes from my awesome Aunt Annie.
00:35:16
>> Auntie Annie. >> Auntie Annie. >> She made pretzels. >> She made the best pretzels. One of my
00:35:20
favorite humans. She's literally the first licensed animal chiropractor in Minnesota.
00:35:26
>> Yes. >> Okay. Chiropractor those animals and send me those pretzels. [laughter]
00:35:30
>> I heard whispers of Aunt Danny's ghostly encounters from the house down the street when I was young and I would set
00:35:37
my imagination on fire. But it was only recently that I asked her to recount her
00:35:41
experiences to me on the record. She Let's see. >> Strange. >> We are okay. so that she I could
00:35:50
document what she saw, heard, felt, whatever she remembered. Annie gave me her. >> I'm Ash. I'm Elena. And this is Morbid.
00:36:00
We got Aiden on the ones and twos. >> He won't leave. [laughter] Wait, >> I'm sorry.
00:36:05
>> Oh, is it because he's not normally here? >> This is Aiden, our cameraman, cousin,
00:36:11
social media guy. >> Yeah. >> Hello. >> Is that okay? Is it okay that he's here, Nicholas? I'm
00:36:19
>> sorry. >> Hello. Okay, you think get back to us, doll? [laughter] >> Annie gave me her permission for this
00:36:28
story to be shared. And I promise that everything is accurate and true. Thank you for all that you do.
00:36:33
>> Thank you for all that you do. >> It's called Grandma Phoned Her Daughter and the Ghost Responded First. Can I say
00:36:38
your whole name? I hope so. >> You just did. [laughter] What? >> What is he just said? What? [laughter]
00:36:48
What? >> What did you >> It's not for you. >> It's not for you. >> What? >> Can you beep out his
00:37:00
>> Yeah, beep out his name. Um cuz Nicholas [laughter] >> very concerned about his
00:37:07
>> Yeah. >> Yeah. He's sore about it. So, we're going to >> Okay. Yeah, I get it.
00:37:11
>> Okay, >> leave [clears throat] the in the part where he advocates for him, though.
00:37:22
[laughter] >> We're trying to get you good rep, man. >> He said that that goes against my
00:37:28
reputation [laughter] helping someone. Leaving the part where he No thanks. [laughter]
00:37:34
Okay. Grandma Edie. Grandma Edy raised three children, survived two husbands, and
00:37:40
spent over 50 years of her life in the Dutch colonial college cottage at Can I say St. I'm going to say St. Paul Park,
00:37:47
Minnesota. I just don't just in case. >> This is where I spent my childhood holidays. Gathered around a fireplace
00:37:52
with loved ones while the It's a Wonderful Life snow gently coated everything outside.
00:37:57
>> Oh, I'm there. >> We shared heaping plates of buttered corn, turkey with mashed potatoes, and
00:38:02
gravy. The adults would exchange gifts and then I would take center stage while I tore into my presents pile like
00:38:08
Scrooge McDuck diving into his pool of money. I was the only child and only grandchild after all.
00:38:14
>> Oh, that's nice. I laughed at Grandpa Charlie's dad jokes while climbing his big friendly giant frame like a spider
00:38:20
monkey and lived family bonding experiences so rich with joy and unconditional love that my young self
00:38:25
could never have comprehended just how fortunate I was to have them or how often I would revisit those fading
00:38:30
memories and become overwhelmed with gratitude and love. Alexi Alexi >> Alexi that was really nice.
00:38:39
>> You are a creative writer. Like that is Wow, >> that was really sweet. I can smell that.
00:38:45
So, this is the same neighborhood where Grandma Eve's only daughter, Annie, my aunt, would meet her best friend,
00:38:50
Debbie. Debb Debb Debbie lived down the street in the big pale blue house at the
00:38:54
top of a hill. >> Justin bloody >> Justin is bloody. Does he need help? Think on it. Let us know. Um,
00:39:12
let me go back to the app. Uh, Debbie lived down the street in the big pale blue house at the top of the hill on
00:39:17
Summit Avenue that seemed to tower over most of the houses around it. Aside from
00:39:22
being a whole level taller than its neighbors, the decorative flourishes, the stained glass windows, the sheer
00:39:27
size of it set it apart like a deep southern relic transported to this bluecollar middle class stretch in the
00:39:33
Northlands. Alexi, you better write a book or some [ __ ] >> Just painting a picture. I can't
00:39:38
remember. >> You can't remember if he's okay. >> Was Justin bloody a long time ago?
00:39:47
>> And was he bloody because someone hurt him? >> Let us know. >> Think on it. Let us know. Built in
00:39:55
You bet. Okay. Built in 1890, the fourbedroom house sits on a halfacre lot. as my parents and I drove by it on
00:40:02
the way to the holidays at my grandparents house. My stepdad would always whimsically say, "There's the
00:40:07
haunted house." And I would stop whatever I was doing and laser focus my eyes on the old building.
00:40:14
Why does he keep saying above? It's freaking me out that he's repeating certain words.
00:40:24
So heal >> goal. >> Why? [sighs] Why is it freaking you out? >> Sorry. It's I'm I don't want to piss you
00:40:32
off, Nicholas. It's It's just scaring me a little because I feel like you're trying to tell us something that's
00:40:38
scary. Are you Are you Are you trying to like tell us something scary that's happening
00:40:45
currently or will happen or are you telling us something that happened a long time ago?
00:40:50
>> I know that was a very intricate question, so think on it, you know. >> Uh let me know.
00:40:56
Um, so he would laser focus his eyes on the old building, drifting by his window, checking for any sign of spirits
00:41:02
from the safety of a moving vehicle. The windows of the house always looked dark,
00:41:06
like like dark empty eyes, revealing everything and nothing at once. Every haunted house I had ever encountered in
00:41:12
my imagination, books, campfire stories or movies became this house. And it pinned me to my seat in a way that made
00:41:19
its power over me feel palpable and not simply a figment of my imagination. Back
00:41:24
in the day, the big picture window looking out onto the street would reveal a classic living room with an elegant
00:41:29
fireplace and library. But today, the overgrown foliage covers many windows on the ground floor. And there's a
00:41:35
newspaper. And there's newspaper covering the once glorious picture window. As if no one should be allowed
00:41:40
to see inside the silent structure with many tales that the walls could tell. >> Backward. Well, I have never stepped
00:41:50
foot inside the haunted house. My aunt Annie spent many hours, days, and nights there playing with her best friend
00:41:55
Debbie when they were teenagers. And when I became old enough to work up the nerve to ask her about her paranormal
00:42:01
experiences there that they were always hinted at or overheard at family gatherings, these are the stories she
00:42:08
shared. Annie and Debbie became friends in seventh grade. They both attended Ultman Junior High School in St. Paul
00:42:15
Park and lived only a couple blocks from each other. So they would walk to school
00:42:19
together, sometimes stashing contraband in the old ticket booth that they would pass on the way to school.
00:42:24
>> Amazing. >> That's the coolest like small town oldtimey thing I've ever heard.
00:42:28
>> I love it. >> Debbie lived with her single mother Sharon and two older sisters, one of
00:42:32
which would move out >> inside. Above >> woof. >> Love >> love is inside. >> Love is inside. Do you feel it,
00:42:47
Nicholas? Nicholas kiss all the time and disco occasionally. >> Exactly. Do you feel the love, Nicholas?
00:42:54
>> Okay. So, she lived with her single mother, Sharon, and two older sisters, one of which would move out to attend
00:42:59
college shortly after Annie started coming around. So, the home had many more rooms than the family could occupy.
00:43:05
The house had a much looser structure than at Grandma Edy and Grandpa Charlie's house. And it was there Annie
00:43:10
had her first alcoholic beverages and explored the freedom that virtually all teenagers seek. Needless to say, Annie
00:43:16
spent a lot of time in that house, and there was some peculiarities that she remembers well to this day. For one,
00:43:22
Sharon, Debbiey's mom, would >> she That's Debbiey's mom. She would often talk to spirits. This seemed to be
00:43:30
common place for all who lived there and their guests. Sharon might laugh at a joke that only she could hear or carry
00:43:36
on in conversation with an invisible guest, a British man by all accounts. I kind of love that. without embarrassment
00:43:43
or explanation. Annie accepted it as normal since everyone else seemed to seemed to and there was not any
00:43:49
perceived malevolence with the unseen guest. >> All right. >> One odd reoccurrence in the house
00:43:53
involved a coffee table in the living room. Apparently, if one set their cup of tea or whatever they were sipping
00:43:59
down for a moment on the table and carried on with their conversation, at some point the cup would likely just
00:44:05
disappear. >> What? >> No sound of it moving, no sight of dinner wear floating away, just gone. At
00:44:10
some later point in time, someone in the house was exploring a storage room in the attic that was seldom if ever used,
00:44:16
only to discover a stack of teacups filled with unsipped beverages, saucers, and all. What the [ __ ]
00:44:24
>> No explanation was ever given for this phenomenon. >> Okay. >> What? Most of the activity in the house
00:44:32
happened near the back where Debbiey's bedroom was. It was where there the girls spent many hours hanging out and
00:44:37
being teenagers. At one point, Annie played a cassette tape in Debbiey's room with a recording of Debbie as a little
00:44:43
girl singing a funny folk song called Daddy's Whiskers. >> All right, we have a Dear Old Daddy. His
00:44:50
hair is silver gray. He has a set of whiskers. They all They're always in the way.
00:44:54
>> That's adorable. >> The song ends and the cassette tape wines and winds and the blank tape winds
00:45:01
the blank tape until the side is done. Annie takes the tape out and plays the other side. I'm not sure where they were
00:45:07
what they were expecting to hear since they had only been on the recording only been on a recording on side A, but after
00:45:13
a momentary hiss of blank space, a man's voice, grally, slow, and melancholy, begins singing the same song.
00:45:24
>> No, a man doesn't need to sing that song. >> We have a dear old daddy. His hair
00:45:30
[laughter] is silver gray. He has a set of whiskers. They're always in the way. >> Thank you.
00:45:39
>> Nailed it. [laughter] >> Same. Some sad soul singing to no one or to whoever would listen. Some might
00:45:48
argue that cassette takes cassette tapes can bleed while recording. Meaning that
00:45:52
something recorded on one side shows up on the reverse side. If that was the case for this recording, every sound
00:45:58
would be the reverse of the original recording and any sound or word would be played backwards. Oh, this was the same
00:46:04
song with the same words, but instead of a young girl's voice, it was the disembodied voice of an old man that no
00:46:09
one was ever able to identify. >> I don't like it. >> That's [ __ ] up in a way I can't
00:46:14
describe. Grandma Edie would call Sharon's house when it was time for Annie to come home
00:46:19
for dinner. On this particular night, Debbie's older sister, Kathy, was the first to answer her call. Kathy set the
00:46:25
phone down and yelled across the house for Annie to take the call and then went back to whatever she was doing. Edie
00:46:31
waited patiently for her daughter to answer the phone. Eventually, Annie grabbed uh grabbed the phone in the
00:46:36
unhurried and unbothered way that most teenagers respond to a routine call from their parents. "I'll be right home,"
00:46:41
said Annie. Edy was silent, then severe. "You get home right now." "Hello." Annie
00:46:48
was confused as to why her mom sounded so serious on the phone, and when she walked in the door, her mom interrogated
00:46:53
her with a very similar energy. She asked who was at the house, specifically if there was any men there. Ooh. Annie
00:47:00
informed her mom that there was no men in the house. Edy doubled down, giving her a final opportunity to tell her the
00:47:05
truth or face the wrath of God. >> Not Jod. >> Not Jod. With no reason to lie, Annie
00:47:11
again told Edy that the only people in the house were female. Her, Debbie, Kathy, and Debbiey's mom, Sharon.
00:47:17
Sensing that her daughter was being truthful, Ed's body relaxed slightly, and her tone shifted from accusatory to
00:47:23
fearful, clutching Annie tightly as if she were in danger. Apparently, in the blank space between Kathy setting the
00:47:29
phone down and Annie answering, a man's voice spoke sharply into the phone. E, I'll be right home. Clear as day. The
00:47:39
exact same words that Annie would say into the phone just seconds later. >> Oh, it's weird that she hadn't even said
00:47:44
that yet. >> And a man saying, "I'll be right home." I'd be like, "No, the [ __ ] you won't."
00:47:48
>> No. >> No men were in the house. And again, no explanation was ever satisfactorily
00:47:53
accepted to dismiss this incident. >> Yeah. One evening, the girls were playing with the Ouija board in the
00:47:58
front room on the couch with a grand staircase at one end, the fireplace roaring and crackling behind them and a
00:48:04
big archway in the into the dining room on the other side. >> iconic. >> They asked the spirits if so and so
00:48:09
liked them and the classic Ouija board ask >> and whatever else 13-year-old girls
00:48:14
might wonder about and other quote dumb questions about boys. As aunt Annie told
00:48:19
me, the board kept responding with Annie, don't be an [ __ ] [gasps] [laughter] Annie remembers being shocked
00:48:26
to be addressed with the type of language because that word was not in their vocabulary. Even as rambunctious
00:48:32
teenagers, every question they asked the spirit was met with, "Annie, don't be an
00:48:36
[ __ ] >> Oh my god." >> The tension built with each response, and Annie got very upset, and she
00:48:41
started getting smart with it, taunting whoever it was that would talk that way to a young person. The spirit did not
00:48:47
react kindly. The coffee table that the board was set upon had a wooden decorative border like a tiny fence with
00:48:53
intricate carved details. Once after Annie had prodded whoever whatever it was that was spelling curse words at
00:48:59
her, the planchette that the girl's fingers had been on flew out from under their hands with such force and speed
00:49:06
that it exploded through the wooden border on the table, startling the girls into a stunned and speechless silence.
00:49:13
Fear quickly set over them. What the [ __ ] The girls eyes, wide as saucers, looked up at each other. And then Annie
00:49:19
noticed that the smoke from the fireplace had reversed course and was now pouring into the living room and the
00:49:26
air became cold, >> which like why would that like the flu closing? >> Sharon heard the commotion and came
00:49:32
running into the room. Once she gathered what had happened, she began immediately
00:49:35
apologizing to no one, to the smoke, to the spirit that was now upset, begging for forgiveness.
00:49:42
Slowly, the smoke cleared and the room returned as it was. Holy [ __ ] >> That was the last time they play with
00:49:47
the Ouija board and the last episode that Annie recalls from her time at the haunted house. Today, the house is
00:49:53
vacant. Newspaper covering the once glorious big picture window. To this day, all these years later, I cannot
00:50:00
drive past the house without slowing down, turning down the music, and peering into the dark, empty windows,
00:50:06
searching for a sign, searching for answers. Anything. Grandma, Edie, and my daughter. Oh, no.
00:50:12
This is Let me see. Just pictures. And this is a picture of the house. And it is a beautiful house. But I It's spooky.
00:50:20
>> It's a big ass house. >> It is very spooky. >> The peace garden. >> Oh my god. I love them.
00:50:26
>> Steak and potato. >> Oh my god. I love them. >> Oh, look at this gorgeous family.
00:50:32
>> Okay, you're all gorge. >> You're very pretty people. >> Holy [ __ ] >> And your child is like spitting image of
00:50:40
both of you. I was going to say >> I can't tell who more. >> Wow, Alexi. >> Holy [ __ ]
00:50:47
>> that was a spooky ass story. >> Spooky as hell. And it brought so much Nicholas out.
00:50:51
>> It did bring a lot of Nicholas out. >> Damn. I can't get over the teacups. >> I know that. Just the fact that they
00:50:57
like found them later. >> They just would disappear and then they find like a pile of them in a room
00:51:00
that's not really used. >> I would be so mad though because do you think they would be moldy?
00:51:04
>> Yeah, >> they would. Like the liquid inside >> and then it gets to a point where it's
00:51:07
just you can't clean it, you know? >> Yeah. You just got to get rid of it. want to throw in a teacup.
00:51:11
>> That wasn't the time where people threw things away, I feel. >> No. No. >> All right. This next one is listener
00:51:17
tales. I babysat at the SK Pierce mansion. >> The SK Pierce mansion. >> What? Back in 2001, my English class
00:51:25
assigned all the students the project of looking up gardener history in the area
00:51:28
that we each lived in. Growing up in South Gardener, my group jumped at the opportunity to see if we could get into
00:51:34
the newly purchased spooky Victorian house. Hell yeah. the SKPS mansion. Having passed by it almost every day of
00:51:41
my life, it was so exciting to see somebody finally take care of the beautiful building that had been so
00:51:46
overgrown with vegetation for years. My parents also grew up in Gardener, and they too were excited that this historic
00:51:52
building was finally getting another chance. I can't remember exactly how we got in touch with the owners, but it's
00:51:58
quite possible my awesome mom just drove our group down to the mansion and said,
00:52:01
"Well, knock on the door and ask." >> Why not? You know, the owners were so welcoming and we arranged a time to take
00:52:08
a video camera through the property. Mark explained that while there was some roof damage that affected the front
00:52:13
turret spaces, all the rest of the house needed was a good dusting. And lucky enough, there was the extra there was
00:52:19
extra of the original wood used in the initial build and the third floor attic space.
00:52:24
>> That's cool. >> That's badass. >> It never happens. >> So, he took us through all the floors,
00:52:28
including the top little tower, which we didn't go in last time. >> I know. We didn't go with Sam and Colby.
00:52:33
We went with the Serena and Karen. Yeah. So, [clears throat] back we go to the tower.
00:52:38
>> I love the SK Pierce mansion. Me, too. And the people who bought it. >> The people who bought it are sick.
00:52:43
>> Go try to get a tour there. I >> think we're trying to turn it into a B&B, right?
00:52:47
>> Yeah. And follow their Tik Tok account because they're doing a lot on there now
00:52:50
and giving a lot of investigation content. So, go follow them. >> They're awesome. They're just nice
00:52:54
people. >> We love them. >> We love them a lot. >> So, there was a cast iron safe on the
00:52:59
second floor that was also original because nobody could figure out how to move it. I know what you're thinking.
00:53:03
It's empty. Wamp wamp. >> The only space we did not go was the basement. I went there. [laughter]
00:53:08
>> That's right. >> I went there. >> Fun fact, SK Pierce had a tunnel built that led from his house under the
00:53:13
railroad that uh used to follow that used to follow along West Broadway over to his factory. Don't laugh at me cuz I
00:53:21
had the same [laughter] last. >> I was like I was like I'm not alone. >> It has since been sealed.
00:53:27
>> It has. >> And people think it's a portal. >> Now to the good stuff. Due to that
00:53:32
project, my parents became good friends with the new owners where we once attended a Halloween party, and my
00:53:37
parents even attended their wedding on the property. >> Wow. >> Eventually, my cousin and I were asked
00:53:42
to babysit their two children. I'm going to be changing the names to Kyle and Sarah. They were around 8 and 10. For
00:53:48
privacy, even though they're adults now, that's why I changed their names. [laughter] I'm reading this so weird.
00:53:52
>> I did the same thing. >> I don't know what's happening. >> I don't know what punctuation, but
00:53:55
nothing to me. >> I'm just throwing it all to the wind. did. I said, "Fuck me, too."
00:54:00
>> My cousin Ashley and I agreed that we would take turns babysitting the kids over the summer, alternating weeks so
00:54:05
that we didn't lose our whole summer to babysitting. That was smart. It was middle of a team up. There were a few
00:54:10
rules, obviously. No going in the basement or the third floor and above. No playing with the dumb waiter system.
00:54:16
If we thought we experienced any haunting type situations, we needed to tell them. And if we were playing
00:54:21
hide-and-seek and we couldn't find Kyle, look in the hidden panel where they used
00:54:24
to keep the blocks of ice before panicking. Wow. All right. I thought you were going to say if you exp One of the
00:54:30
rules was if you experience a haunting you better videotape it. [laughter] If you experience a haunting just run out
00:54:36
of there. >> Come come come with receipts and show me it. [laughter] So, we only had one
00:54:41
request. If they ever asked us to babysit at night, they would have to pay the both of us. Yeah. So, here we go.
00:54:46
>> Of course, there was a lightning storm on that night. The kids were supposed to
00:54:49
be in bed since it was after their bedtime and Ashley and I were watching something in the living room when Kyle
00:54:54
came downstairs. We asked if everything was okay. it was. And we told him, "Okay, go back to bed." A little while
00:55:00
later, we felt like someone was watching us and we realized Kyle's back. What the
00:55:04
[ __ ] is up, Kyle? >> What are you doing, Kyle? A little while later. Uh, nope. I was just going to say
00:55:10
the same thing over again. Just Kyle again. Kyle, you know. >> So, rinse repeat a few times on Go to
00:55:14
bed and we're now annoyed. Not to mention, it's just creepy when you're sitting in a dark house and a small
00:55:18
child is lurking in the shadows. >> Tell me about it. >> I I know that's you have that a nightly
00:55:23
occurrence. I need to pause here to explain some anatomy of the house. There are two staircases. The grand staircase
00:55:29
in the middle of the structure and what was the servant staircase off of the kitchen. When looking at the front of
00:55:34
the house, they use the front right room as the living room. That's not what I would have assumed.
00:55:38
>> That's what we were wondering. >> I figured that would be like a I thought it would be the back parlor. Yeah.
00:55:44
>> I thought the the one that they were using as a living room would be like a formal sitting room.
00:55:48
>> Yeah, cuz the other one is like the lady's sitting room. Yeah, I wonder. >> I just wonder where they had the TV. Me,
00:55:53
too. Telly, >> tell me. >> Tell me. So, they used the front right room as the living room and the front
00:56:01
left room as the gift shop. Mostly Victorian era items as Suzanne was from England. It was not a spooky gift shop.
00:56:08
The kitchen was the back left room and the dining room was the back right. Interesting.
00:56:12
>> That is interesting. >> The dining room makes sense, but the kitchen is the kitchen you walk in to
00:56:17
the left. >> I wonder if they moved it though. I think I think you're right. I think I
00:56:20
remember them saying something about that. >> Uh Kyle's room was above the kitchen at
00:56:24
the top of the servant stairs. We were told this used to be the baby's room. Which baby? No idea. The baby. The baby.
00:56:30
>> Don't worry about it. >> Then connected to that room via a very t tiny hall with Sarah's room, which we
00:56:36
Yeah, I can picture it. We were told traditionally was the room of the caretaker of the child, hence the little
00:56:41
connection hallway, the baby. So, back to the night it happened. The final time Kyle came down, we stood up and he
00:56:47
bolted back up the servant's stairs [snorts] to his room with us following closely behind. We were calling out a
00:56:52
combination of things like, "Go to bed. Stop messing around." As we're going up the stairs, we hear his door slam. We
00:56:58
get to the top of the stairs and one of us tries to open the door, but nothing. Now, this is an old Victorian doorork
00:57:03
knob. There's no locks on this door, so we try to push a little harder. Nothing.
00:57:08
Kyle, stop messing around. You could get hurt. Let us open the door. Kyle, I'm not touching the door. Ashley and I look
00:57:15
at each other confused and we both start to try to push and bump against the door, but nothing. Kyle, what did you
00:57:20
put in front of the door, Kyle? Nothing. I'm not touching the door. Cuz you do have to be like really specific with
00:57:27
that cuz he's like, I'm not touching the door. And you're like, what did you put
00:57:30
in front of the door? >> I'm not touching. >> I'm not touching it. >> So, okay, I've had enough. I walk
00:57:35
through Sarah's room, which takes me about 5 seconds to get in Kyle's room, and I just see him standing in the
00:57:39
middle of the room looking at the door. There's nothing in front of it. And this
00:57:43
kid is 30 pounds soaking wet. So, he wasn't blocking two teenage girls from musling open a door. Huh. I walk open to
00:57:50
the door and it just opens. It just opens. There isn't even the sticking of the door frame when it gets super hot in
00:57:57
the summer. It just opens. >> I fully believe after being in that house, I'm going to believe anything you
00:58:04
tell me. >> Weird [ __ ] happens in that [laughter] house. Ashley and I look at each other
00:58:07
with large eyes and say in our most stern voices, "Kyle, go to bed." We have come to the conclusion that our chasing
00:58:15
him up the stairs startled a protective spirit. And in an attempt to protect him, they blocked us from opening the
00:58:20
door. [snorts] >> Damn. >> Now, this might not seem like a big deal, but I'm telling you, at one point,
00:58:25
both of us were body slamming the door and it wasn't moving. >> Damn. >> We never went up the servant staircase
00:58:31
again. >> Can't say I blame you. >> Overall, I loved being in that house. I've always been super sensitive to
00:58:35
spiritual energy. And to be honest, the only thing that ever creeped me out were
00:58:38
the clown paintings in the storage room on the third floor. Yes, clown paintings.
00:58:43
>> Also, I wonder which room was the storage room because >> if it was the very back room.
00:58:47
>> Oh, >> there's another reason why that room creeped you out. >> Yeah, I bet it was that one.
00:58:51
>> Bad vibes in that room. >> I noped right out of that room after the owner sold it and the and multiple new
00:58:57
owners came in. I feel like they really tried to ride the haunted aspects and as
00:59:01
you both mentioned in the episode, it created a more of a magnet for negative spirits to join the party.
00:59:06
>> And also some people, we won't say who, but some people like went against instructions.
00:59:12
>> Yeah. >> That were somebody that like is like kind of famous, >> like a famous person apparently like
00:59:19
>> was told not to use a Ouija board. >> Yeah. They It's like a rule like a lot of haunted places.
00:59:24
>> Yeah. like Lizzie Bordon house won't allow Ouija boards anymore >> cuz they create like portals and [ __ ]
00:59:28
>> Well, and it's also just important it's not your house. >> If you're going in there and they say
00:59:33
this is a rule of the house, don't bring a [ __ ] Ouija board and somebody did who's like kind of famous.
00:59:38
>> Pretty famous. >> Pretty famous. And they think they created a [ __ ] portal that [ __ ] up
00:59:43
the vibes. >> And that person is not. Welcome back. >> No. >> So I hope you would literally never
00:59:48
guess but we can't say it. >> Yeah. >> So [laughter] that is [ __ ] up. Hope this tale entertains you and makes
00:59:56
you think about the relationships that we all have with our houses. I now live in a house built in 1910 for overflow
01:00:01
servant staff of a mansion up the street that I work in. And you better believe I
01:00:05
tell the house, "Have a good day every time I leave. Keep the positive energy flowing." Shout out to my college
01:00:11
roommate M for introducing me to your podcast during the pandemic. You had me on the Wizard of Oz episode.
01:00:17
>> Keep it weird but not so weird that Take it away, Ash. You babysit at the Escape
01:00:21
Hier mansion hotel and a what the [ __ ] is up Kyle child just comes popping into
01:00:24
the room and you have to chase him up the serpent stairs and then he's locked in his room and you're like why are you
01:00:27
locked in your room? What did you put in front of the door? And he's like I didn't put anything in front of the door
01:00:30
and you're like what did you put in front of the door? And then you're like wait there's a hallway that I can go
01:00:32
through and you go through the hallway and then you just see that random kid well like the kid that you know standing
01:00:36
there and there's nothing in front of the door and then the door just opens and wo ghosts.
01:00:40
>> That might be one of my best. >> That was really good. >> Thank you. >> You didn't stumble at all.
01:00:44
>> I didn't. >> No. Um, so if you want to see, by the way, cuz we were mentioning how we were
01:00:49
there with Sam and Colby and Sabrina and Karen, we filmed the one with Sam and Colby on their channel. So go check out
01:00:57
the Sam and Colby YouTube channel. It's on there. >> It was really fun. >> It was towards the end of the year. It
01:01:02
was in December, right? I think it was their last video. >> Yeah, it was their last video of the
01:01:05
year. [laughter] >> Last video of the year. >> Uh, it's a really fun one. Turned out to
01:01:12
be a crazy video. It's really fun to watch. So definitely check it out and we did obviously an episode about it where
01:01:18
we talked to Sam and Kobe about it. >> We've done a few episodes. >> Um and then if you want to book like a
01:01:23
tour there or whatever it is and even people are going and investigating there more.
01:01:27
>> They are. Yeah. >> Uh I we'll put it we'll link it in the show notes >> if you go check out the wall. We signed
01:01:33
it. >> Yeah, we did in the kitchen. >> Yep, we sure did. >> All right. Um is Nicholas still on?
01:01:39
>> He is. >> He's being so quiet. Quiet again. Weird. >> Maybe he felt silence. I was like, "Why
01:01:44
is he?" >> Watch out, Mikey. >> Yeah, you better you better recognize. Um, okay. So, the last one we're going
01:01:51
to do today, right, this is the last one. The last one we're going to do today is called The Day Danny
01:01:55
Disappeared. >> Not Danny. That's ominous. >> It is. What an ominous name it is.
01:02:01
>> Hello, lovely ladies. My name is >> Amber. Amber. >> Amber. >> And I have been a listener for a few
01:02:07
years now. I love the podcast and especially look forward to listener tales. I always hoped to someday have a tale
01:02:14
that was worthy of sending in. Finally, I have one. >> And it's about the disappearance of a
01:02:18
young lad. >> Thank you for disappearing, Danny. [laughter] I have been meaning to write in for
01:02:22
months, ever since my mother-in-law and I bonded over a family ghost story on a snowy Christmas Eve. Goals. What a
01:02:28
beautiful relationship. Stata goals. Uh, now I am finally sitting here while my sourdough is in the oven writing a ghost
01:02:36
story that I honestly wouldn't have believed from anyone else. I titled this story The Day Danny Disappeared. And it
01:02:41
has been discussed so much in my husband's family that they even typed up a document detailing the incidents and
01:02:48
shared it with Danny. >> Damn, this is legit. >> That family sounds awesome. >> I know. In this tale, all names have
01:02:53
been changed. So, don't worry about sharing names. Also, just for funsies, I've included a picture of my adorable
01:02:58
doggos on St. Patty's Day because, well, they're the best doofuses around and will hopefully make you smile. I love a
01:03:05
doofus dog. Uh, oh, dinguses and doofuses, dogs, >> all the live long day. >> Uh, where am I? I have included a
01:03:12
14-point double space pifa. Feel free to share the included pictures of my dogs if you wish. I also shared a picture of
01:03:18
where the tail takes place, but that picture probably shouldn't be shared just to be safe without you.
01:03:23
>> So, without further ado, I will share the story of how Danny disappeared. Our
01:03:28
story began in the winter of 1967 when the Birch family moved into a house on Moheakin
01:03:35
thank you Avenue in a small Ohio town. John and Jane Burch raised four children in this house. Two girls Betty and Beth
01:03:42
and two boys Brad and Tim. >> I bet Tim felt left out. >> Truly when they first when they first
01:03:46
moved in the the [laughter] younger children, >> Betty, Beth, and Brad and Tim and Tim.
01:03:52
>> This is Betty and Beth and Brad and Tim. Tim. [laughter] Oh, I kind of love it.
01:03:58
>> I love it. >> When they first moved in, the younger children, I was just about to say they
01:04:03
should have named him better. >> You know why? Cuz my brain keeps going back to the Skyler sisters in Hamilton
01:04:09
and they're like, "The Skyler sisters." And they say their names and she's like,
01:04:13
"And Peggy." That's all I think of. [laughter] >> I was laughing because I just thought
01:04:17
they should have named him Bim Bim. Bim Bim. >> When they first moved in, the younger
01:04:21
children started to notice things right away. The most active place was their attic, which was a playroom for the
01:04:27
kids. The kids would start would hear whistling and playing around the house at night when everyone was supposed to
01:04:32
be asleep. Sometimes Mrs. Burch would hear running up and down the stairs throughout the night, and she would yell
01:04:37
that the kids needed to go to bed, but all the children were sleeping soundly. Hate that.
01:04:42
>> She would also wake up in the mornings to the bottom cabinets being all open during the night as though a child had
01:04:48
left them all open. >> Ew. No, that just gave me shiva sha shivas. And it made me think, it always
01:04:52
makes me think of the six sense. >> I know. Me, too. And it makes me think of the six sense in paranormal activity.
01:04:58
>> Oh, I got so many shivers. >> Oh, the six sense, though. >> Oh, [ __ ] I got to stop picturing it. I
01:05:03
hate that scene on the table. >> I hate that scene. I hate that scene. >> Often they would hear trucks going back
01:05:08
and forth across the floor, and they would hear the Hot Wheels track being played upstairs.
01:05:12
>> That's kind of adorable. The family would hear a child giggling and marbles being rolled across the floor of the
01:05:17
attic, even though none of the toys upstairs were marbles. Someone's just having the time of their GD death
01:05:22
>> and just [laughter] their GD afterwards and they're just conjuring marbles. >> Yeah, the family, you know,
01:05:29
>> the family assumed that there was a child ghost in the new home, but felt no fear. So, they eventually started to
01:05:34
consider him just part of the house. Good for them. >> That's a great family vibe.
01:05:37
>> That is a good vibe. Little Betty's room was at the top of the stairs with their
01:05:40
door opening into the hallway to the attic. Several times, Betty would see the attic
01:05:46
door open and close, just enough for a small child to peek their head through. >> That's not cute. That's not cute.
01:05:55
>> That's ugly. >> Betty would yell downstairs to her mom, "The ghost is watching me."
01:06:01
>> To which her mom would say, "Tell him it's time to go to bed." >> That's mom [ __ ] right?
01:06:07
>> Betty would then tell the ghost to go to bed. to which he appeared to go upstairs
01:06:11
and they would hear him playing with the toys in the attic the rest of the night.
01:06:14
So, he wasn't going to bed. >> He's like, "You're no fun. >> You're not my mom." There was one night
01:06:18
when Betty was sleeping in the attic, she woke up to a small boy poking her arm with his finger.
01:06:27
>> We said that so casually. >> Yeah, we said that. We said that with just like it was another sentence.
01:06:32
>> She's just She fell asleep in the attic. She woke up little boy just poking her
01:06:37
and you you just said that. You just said that >> uh she couldn't see him clearly in the
01:06:41
dark, but she wasn't afraid of him and she just went back to sleep. >> Night night. Kids are wild.
01:06:46
>> Wow. That's like I would see ghost [ __ ] all the time in your room and I just go
01:06:49
back to sleep. >> Night night. >> The youngest son, Tim, [laughter] >> started started to grow more interested
01:06:56
in the ghost. He would, you know. >> Yeah. >> Maybe maybe the ghost's name starts with
01:07:01
a T. >> Tim eventually got the ghost to talk to him. When Tim was 7 years old, he told
01:07:05
the family about having a conversation with the ghost. Tim had gone upstairs to use the bathroom when he noticed that
01:07:10
the attic door was open. He was curious, so he sat on the steps and started talking to the ghost. The ghost told Tim
01:07:16
that his name was Danny. Tim told his parents it's not Tim told and not Bambi. >> And not Bammy.
01:07:23
>> Tim was like, "Oh my god, >> he was a common." >> Tim told his parents about talking to
01:07:27
the little boy upstairs. When his parents asked how the little boy looked, Tim said he looked like he was very
01:07:32
little, about the size of Allan, his four-year-old cousin. A. This verified what the family thought about the ghost,
01:07:40
that he was in fact a little boy. From then on, they called the ghost Danny. What do you do? Very respectful. Like,
01:07:46
how do you just go about the rest of your day knowing that a four-year-old ghost boy lives?
01:07:49
>> Because I'd also be worried about him. I'd be like, can I do you need to brush
01:07:52
your teeth? Like, do you need to do what need to do? >> Yeah. Now, as the years went by, they
01:07:59
continued to have experiences with Danny. Even their friends who stayed the night would report spooky occurrences,
01:08:04
including Betty's friend seeing a little boy standing um standing on the stairs on the second floor, clear as day, until
01:08:10
he turned and ran up the stairs. >> When Betty's friend ran downstairs to tell Mrs. Burch what she saw, Mrs. Burch
01:08:17
laughed and assured her that it was just their harmless little boy ghost, Danny.
01:08:21
>> Oh, she's like, "We got a lot of kids." Cool, man. >> One of them's dead. [gasps] After about
01:08:27
a decade, when Tim was just was about 17 years old, he decided to try to get Dany
01:08:31
talking to on a recorder, pre iPhone, of course. Since Tim felt he had a connection with Dany, he thought he
01:08:37
could get him to talk. He went to the attic with a recorder and started the recording while asking a few questions.
01:08:43
Finally, when he asked, "What is your name?" the ghost replied, "Be quiet. Secret." Tim asked, "Is your name
01:08:49
Danny?" And the ghost answered, "Don't say that." which is like such a little boy response cuz it's probably not
01:08:55
Danny. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. Like that's not my name. So maybe on the recording they were able to hear
01:09:00
the ghostly voice and share it with the rest of the family which further validated that this ghost was a little
01:09:05
boy named Danny. [snorts] Or maybe not. Maybe not. That's not my name. >> Or maybe like he's like no shut up. I'm
01:09:12
like mysterious. >> Yeah. He's like that's not my name. [laughter] >> That's not my name. You call me Danny,
01:09:18
but I am Tanny. [laughter] Maybe a baby. It's not the same. >> That's not my name. [laughter]
01:09:26
>> So, what is >> So, I imagine you're wondering, I thought this was a story about when
01:09:32
Danny disappeared. >> Oh, right. >> Well, dear listener, we're about to get to that part.
01:09:35
>> Okay. >> As mentioned previously, Tim and the Birch family lived in a very small town
01:09:40
where everyone knows everyone. So, when the previous owner of their home, Mr. Smith, passed away, they attended the
01:09:45
funeral to pay their respects. As the Birch family read the obituary, they noticed the names of Mr. Smith's
01:09:51
children. One thing caught their attention. Mr. Smith had a child who passed away at the age of four years old
01:09:58
in the 1950s. The Birch family was shocked to find out that this child's name was Danny. So, they just had like
01:10:05
weird intuition. What the [ __ ] In 1956, Danny Smith was a sweet little boy who
01:10:11
went with his mom and dad to deliver cookies to his neighbor. Danny somehow slipped away from his father and ran
01:10:17
into the street. Sadly, Dany was hit by a car and was killed. According to the Smith family, losing Dany broke Mr.
01:10:25
Smith's heart, and for the rest of his life, Mr. Smith blamed himself for the death of his son.
01:10:29
>> Oh, that's awful. >> As you can imagine, the Birch family was very surprised with this revelation. And
01:10:34
specifically, Tim was eager to speak with Dany if he could now that he knew the story of his death. After the Birch
01:10:40
family returned from the funeral of Danyy's father, Tim went upstairs to the attic to find Dany. To his surprise, Tim
01:10:46
could not find Dany anywhere. Tim came downstairs to his family and announced he's gone. From that moment on, the
01:10:53
family never had any other experience with Dany. That is the day Danny disappeared.
01:10:58
>> But it's like he that like the day of his father's funeral. >> Maybe he was waiting for him.
01:11:02
>> He was. I bet his dad went back and got him. I was like, "Oh, I just got >> We're going somewhere else, babe."
01:11:08
>> Yeah, let's go. Now, we will fast forward to how this story was brought back to my husband's family, the Smith
01:11:14
family. Many years passed after Dany left the house on Makin Avenue and eventually Danny's sister Martha Smith
01:11:21
was at a gathering where we started talking to Mrs. Burch. Martha really wanted to ask Mrs. Burch about going to
01:11:27
visit her old childhood home but was not sure how to bring it up. As Martha talked to Mrs. Burch about the house,
01:11:33
Mrs. Burch mentioned strange things that happened to that. Martha laughed and said, "Well, yes, I know that basement
01:11:39
flooded after you moved in." Mrs. Mrs. Burch then proceeded to explain the story of their little ghost to Martha,
01:11:44
including the day Danny disappeared after his father's funeral. Mrs. Burch also told Martha that later when they
01:11:51
renovated the attic, they found a jar of marbles hidden in the wall that they believed were Danny's. Martha was
01:11:58
shocked to hear this spooky, heartwarming story about her late brother. As Martha took in all the
01:12:03
details, she felt a sense of peace knowing that her brother was a happy child even after death and that her
01:12:09
father had carried Dany to the afterlife. This is the most beautiful ghost story I have ever read.
01:12:14
>> Martha shared the story of Dany with her siblings and her cousins in the Smith
01:12:18
family. Hopefully now this story will also be shared with others as a story about a little boy who loved his father
01:12:24
and a father that was able to reunite with his beloved boy at the end. I'm obsessed. I am going to cry. And I
01:12:33
Holy [ __ ] those dogs are the cutest things [laughter] I've ever seen. >> I wish that Dolores would wear a
01:12:38
bandana. >> Wow. >> Do does not [ __ ] with a bandana. That was wild. >> That really was.
01:12:45
>> That story was absolutely gorgeous. >> It was beautiful. >> Like truly gorgeous. It
01:12:52
>> was really beautiful. >> I'm going And your name is Amber. I knew that, but I didn't want to get it wrong.
01:12:56
Amber. >> Amber. >> Amber. That >> a beautiful haunted house story. Even Nicholas stayed quiet for that.
01:13:05
[cough] >> I was waiting for >> like shut the [ __ ] up. >> That's [laughter] stupid.
01:13:08
>> Dumb die. >> Whoa. You never know. >> Wow. >> Above. >> Whoa. >> Oh my gosh, guys. I love listener.
01:13:17
>> Oh my gosh. [laughter] >> Oh my gosh. What was the first thing? What was the weird thing I said?
01:13:22
>> May time. >> Oh my gosh. Mine. >> Mod. I hope you guys have been comfy queens and kings and whatever else.
01:13:31
>> And I hope that you cracked open an lollipop or a do Dr. Pepper. An O lollipop or a Dr. Pepper. Sponsor us.
01:13:42
And that you keep listening and we hope you keep it weird, but not so weird that
01:13:49
you don't have a maintained driveway with a ghost in your house that cries like a nun. But dogs are happy to be
01:13:55
there. And you babysit at the Essie Pierce mansion and Danny disappears. And and and
01:14:04
[ __ ] godamn houses. Um um Annie's house. Annie's friend's house. Debbie, don't keep it as weird as that house
01:14:12
kept it. >> Yeah, but maybe that house was cry like a nun. Don't cry like a nun. Don't do
01:14:17
it. >> Don't cry like a nun. Bye. Heat. Heat. [music] [music]
