00:03:31
cool piece of artwork and I don't think it came with a card or like the card got
00:03:35
lost somehow but it's this framed piece um and it's a it's like a cross stitch no it's not I don't think it is a cross
00:03:43
stitch it's like beads oh it is they're they almost look like little rhinestones
00:03:47
oh [ __ ] and it's a it's a drawing of me and Elena standing back to back Elena's
00:03:52
got black on and I have white and a black skirt and we're standing in front of this circle and it says keep it weird
00:03:58

00:04:06
yourself show yourself because this is cool it's going up on my side of the wall and I'm really excited there's a
00:04:12
literal perfect spot for it that's the thing I happen to have the perfect spot so I said can it go in my side of the
00:04:17
wall oh it is it's like diamondy yeah cuz it just like it's like glittered when you put it down sorry all my papers
00:04:24

00:04:43
who made it if this is like their original drawing because I've seen a sticker with that too with the same
00:04:49
which is such a cool one yeah it's cool so if you drew it I love you we'll post a picture of it I don't know you guys
00:04:55
like just rule a little B you're just awesome and so many people said us cool books to read and sometimes people send
00:05:01
books for like the kids which is really sweet yeah we appreciate all of it we just appreciate you so much you don't
00:05:07
have to send us anything oh oh that's another one before we get into it I promise we're going to get into it but
00:05:13
do you have the I would like to shower you with love I do okay good um hold on so I got a really cool one from uh let
00:05:22
me see the store her like little place is Bricks by Penelope Bricks by Penelope and she takes bricks and she paints them
00:05:32
to look like books and [ __ ] and she got me a brick and painted it to look like
00:05:37
the butcher in the ren I'm going to take a picture of it cuz it's so [ __ ] cool
00:05:41
it's so cool it went right in the bookshelf like right there right next to me you would never even know that it's a
00:05:47
brick because it's so smooth smooth and beautiful and just like the details like
00:05:53
cuz obviously the Butcher and the red cover has like the eyeball and then there's something in the eyeball it's so
00:05:58
so impressive it is so [ __ ] cool I just it what a banner day what a banner and we needed it this morning cuz both
00:06:07
both of us got our flu shots oh my God and I think we were just exhausted like the you know you're fine after a flu
00:06:13
shot but like sometimes you're your immune system immunes you know which is good my immune system immuned so hard
00:06:20
that I want to find it yeah I just didn't sleep well last night cuz I was just like uncomfortable I just didn't
00:06:24
feel great your arm gets so we were just a little tired this morning and just not
00:06:29
ourselves I thought I was going to Yak yeah so it was a nice little like it was a nice thing because Mikey came in like
00:06:36
[ __ ] Old St Nick with a with a big sack full of full of PE box stuff and we said oh goodies he's literally stroking
00:06:46
his beard like Santa Claus wood I'm obsessed and so you guys really killed it and we appreciate you and we're going
00:06:52
to post some of it cuz it's just really cool you guys are so cute and sweet and kind you're lovely you're Demir you're
00:06:58
very mindful cute so I wonder by the time this comes out people will be like what is that people
00:07:05
are theend is over people are done with that but I'll never be done it's hilarious personally speaking of very
00:07:11
cutesy cutesy very very mindful um I think by the time you hear this it's going to be like what October
00:07:18
7th you said Mikey October 7th and that means guys that our collection our morbid collection with Spencers will be
00:07:26
launching Spencers remember do you guys remember the [ __ ] like remember you would go to the mall with your friends
00:07:34
and you be like oh my god do you guys want to go in the back of Spencer and giggle we can laugh we can laugh back
00:07:39
there we have a collection now with them we do we have sweatshirts I'm literally
00:07:44
wearing one right now actually is these sweatshirts are really fun I love them so comfortable too so comfy I recommend
00:07:50
sizing up as much as you can because then you'll just be like wearing a blanket essentially yeah this and we
00:07:56
have a blanket there's a blanket a blanket there's earrings there's press on nails there's press on nails there's
00:08:04
I think a like a oh makeup brushes there's a palette even a makeup palette like an ey shadow palette there's cups
00:08:11
mugs we got cups it's we got cups we're drinking out of cups being a [ __ ] it's
00:08:18
great it's our chair and it's our problem and it's a happy it's not even a problem it's a great thing to have so
00:08:24
it's really fun and go check it out it's in stores yes we're going to go we're going to be doing a um a little visit to
00:08:30
the Spencer stores yeah and I can't wait yeah it's going to be exciting yay pop off by it um so oh hold on I just have
00:08:39
to I need you to I'm going off on a on a Spiel here okay go I need you to watch Secret Lives of Mormon wives on Hulu but
00:08:49
you told me I might not be able to no I think you'll be fine I decided because I
00:08:52
was thinking so I watched it in two days I started it on Saturday morning and just watched it while I decor created
00:08:59
for Halloween love that watched it the next day Drew Drew even got into it damn and I was thinking about some of the
00:09:06
other things that happened and I don't want to like spoil it for you but you just you have to watch it h it's so good
00:09:13
I'm interested I keep just saying like what's going to happen to Mom talk is this going to destroy mom talk and I've
00:09:19
seen so many people like so many of our listeners like I've posted stuff on Insta and they've been responding to it
00:09:24
and I just wanted to say I'm having the best time just talking about mom talk and Mormon wives hang it's so good oh I
00:09:31
love one of my favorite things is when uh our listeners are all like we're all enjoying the same thing yes and then
00:09:39
like we'll post about it and I get a bunch of messages that are just like vibing with it and I'm like I love this
00:09:45
it's so fun because it feels like hanging out with a bunch of people say it's like a big hang sesh it's true I
00:09:50
love all right I'll let you get to everything now all right um before I begin John and I are watching only
00:09:55
murders in the building and it's really good so the uh last couple of seasons I was going to say how many seasons is
00:10:00
that at now four I think but it's oh wow really good I watched a little bit of season Steve Martin A+ Gomez so [ __ ]
00:10:08
good so good yeah I watched a little bit of season one and then I for no reason I
00:10:12
just fell off of it but I I want to get back to it it's a cozy show I love it it
00:10:16
is a cozy show uh but you know what I'm going to talk to you about some cemeteries today cuz uh cozy I suppose I
00:10:24
think they are so I have a wild Cemetery do you wild it is the Westminster burying grounds in Maryland okay uh it
00:10:34
is a cemetery that's at the Westminster Presbyterian Church which is now not the
00:10:39
church anymore it's called Westminster Hall okay um and they it was created in 1786 the burial grounds damn that is
00:10:47
going back quite a ways it's old it was actually made before the church was even
00:10:51
erected and the church was erected over it which made some catacombs happen what
00:10:58
yeah so H so there's that that's terrifying and this happens to have a very famous resident does it Mr Edgar
00:11:08
Allen Poe himself is in the cemetery you know him I've heard of his work I love your work and yeah I love your work he
00:11:14
was actually initially buried in an unmarked grave because of his strange end of his life um but you know they
00:11:22
we'll talk about that don't worry but uh later according to morbidly beautiful.com which is a very
00:11:27
interesting website a bunch of children from a local school raised money to get him a marker at the
00:11:34
entrance of the cemetery they called the fundraiser pennies for po that's hilarious and adorable remember I
00:11:40
remember learning about that did you really yeah when we talked about Ed girl in Po in scho funny yeah he was buried
00:11:46
actually three different times in that Cemetery that's crazy I feel like you probably shouldn't disturb anybody's
00:11:51
body that much yeah I mean he's so Wy like he was Wy in life he was Wy in death he still is yeah the marker that
00:11:58
was made um at the entrance of the cemetery was made with you know some of the raised funds and it had this little
00:12:04
like Medallion thing on it with his image on it and it's been stolen and it was stolen and ended up being found in a
00:12:12
flea market in Charleston West Virginia what the [ __ ] yeah cuz I guess it was one of them was like bronze or something
00:12:19
and or copper one of those and then the newer one was marble they stole the marble one W cuz that's expensive but
00:12:25
then it showed up in a flea market in West Virginia don't steal things from graveyards that's for [ __ ] don't
00:12:30
steal things from anyone but specifically not from graveyards but like definitely don't steal from
00:12:35
graveyards that's bold and Brazen yeah so he's people that are also buried in that Cemetery along like near egmo um
00:12:43
are his wife Virginia clemo and his mother-in-law Maria po Clem wow you may be like weird that they have the same
00:12:51
last names but reversed and you would be correct but that's because his wife was
00:12:55
his cousin I always forget that Troubled Man indeed someone tells me that and I say Okay first cousin yeah I'm pretty
00:13:06
sure okay I think she was also young I remember that part like he was like 26 or something she was like 13 or 14 yeah
00:13:14
he was a he was a situation we're going to a restaurant where he drank in the sellers yeah he drank a lot so there was
00:13:22
definitely that let's go drink in the sellers that Edgar you go drink in the sellers with me where Edgar and po drank
00:13:27
so I know it's real so I know it's real well people will see po hanging out in this place often cemeter yeah the
00:13:34
cemetery often just standing over his own grave he would he really would and he's always seen like wearing a long
00:13:42
black coat he's wearing a black fedora like a big one and he's always got a scarf covering part of his face almost
00:13:48
like he's trying to hide that's spooky which is really creepy um people believe he may be feeling some you know regret
00:13:54
for how his life panned out because like sure he's pretty famous now but like at
00:13:59
what cost and he really wasn't when he was alive he really wasn't as much yeah so his death was gnarly and I'm sure he
00:14:05
is even puzzled by it still so yeah um so let's go on a little side tangent here and let's talk about pose
00:14:12
mysterious death really quick let's so I'm not going to I'll go into like a kind of generalized look at it because I
00:14:18
really would like to go into this a little further later Alena I think you should do an episode on that I feel like
00:14:23
that'd be good there's many theories about his death that I think would be very interesting to go into cuz they r
00:14:29
from like you know being beaten to death to carbon monoxide poisoning so I feel like there would be
00:14:38
like evidence of the beating versus if he died of carbonide poisoning I think you should do that for maybe like maybe
00:14:45
like Halloween oh there you go that might be a fun one because it's very interesting I don't know if an episode
00:14:50
comes out on Halloween but but I'll give you I'll give you a little uh generalized look at it so September 27th
00:14:57
1849 40-year-old po left for Philadelphia on business he was set to help edit a collection of poems it was
00:15:04
going to be kind of a big deal it was for a well-known poet at the time so this was like a big deal that he was
00:15:08
going to edit them but he never arrived R and he never showed up and no one heard a damn word from him he was
00:15:16
supposed to be going back to Richmond actually during that week for his own [ __ ] wedding because he was engaged
00:15:21
at the time to Sarah Elmyra Royster Shelton because his other wife had passed away from consumption oh [ __ ] um
00:15:29
and it's like he vanished for a full week just vanished no one knew where he was didn't contact anyone and then he
00:15:35
was found on October 3rd a week later 1849 on Election Day and he was f a man named Joseph W Walker was on his way to
00:15:45
Gunner's Hall which was a polling station and like a local public house and outside in the alley he came across
00:15:51
a man dressed like [ __ ] smelling like [ __ ] looking like [ __ ] and lying on the
00:15:55
ground basically Falling In and Out Of Consciousness and unable to move yikes so he was like wow that's crazy and then
00:16:01
he looked at him and he was like that's Ed Gren po [ __ ] um so he was like can I
00:16:07
call some for someone for you sir like you okay you good and by call I mean write a letter because it's 1849 and po
00:16:14
was like uh yeah you can write a guy named Joseph Snodgrass Snodgrass who was apparently a
00:16:21
friend an editor um in possession of a really cool name and also he s hustled as kind of like a doctor-ish medical
00:16:31
person side hustled as a doctor-ish medical kind of person imagine bringing your your new mans around your family
00:16:39
and they're like oh what are you doing he's like I'm a doctor-ish medical kind of person for my side hustle yeah you
00:16:44
know it was the 1800s so that was pretty normal it's giving Dr Death so he did he
00:16:48
wrote him according to the smithsonian.com he wrote it on October 3rd 1849 Dear Sir there is a gentleman
00:16:56
rather the worst for wear at Ryan's Fourth Ward Pole who goes under the cogn of Edgar APO and
00:17:02
who appears in great distress and he says he is acquainted with you he is in need of immediate assistance yours in
00:17:08
haste Joseph W Walker he is in need of immediate assistance so let me post mark this send it to you hope it gets to you
00:17:15
soon enough but he did write yours in haste post haste I'm Russian he was brought he eventually he showed up and
00:17:24
he was brought to me you know get some medical attention and he spent four days in and out of you know basically in and
00:17:30
out of dying essentially yeah um he was in and out of Consciousness and he died on October 7th during that time he was
00:17:37
hallucinating he was going into fits [ __ ] what this episode comes out on October 7th W it happens again it
00:17:45
happens again I didn't even wow that's weird cuz Mikey literally just told us that yeah we wouldn't have known that
00:17:51
what the [ __ ] damn why does that always happen Weir that's so weird damn I meant
00:17:57
for that to happen totally I got whole chills about that well during this whole time he was hallucinating he was going
00:18:03
into fits and he was screaming the name Reynolds over and over Reynolds to this day no one's been able to determine who
00:18:09
the [ __ ] Reynolds is and it's also documented that he was discovered in dirty old's clothing that wasn't his
00:18:17
they were not his clothes no one knows who these clothes belong to why he looked like such [ __ ] why he was
00:18:25
hallucinating and why he was screaming the name Reynolds and then he just died that's weird I mean sometimes when
00:18:31
you're like about to die you hallucinate and talk to people that aren't there but
00:18:35
he was like really going through it I mean he and he was so bad that he couldn't recollect what had happened to
00:18:42
him yeah that's strange so do you think there's like a possibility that he just like went on a vendor well that's the
00:18:47
thing so he was also supposed to be in a sober era yes um so this dou you know he
00:18:53
was trying and you know again there's so many theories that go into this like there's something called coping back
00:19:02
then where these people on Election Day would like kidnap someone like beat them
00:19:07
and kidnap them and dress them in Disguise and make them go vote for who they wanted them to yeah and then
00:19:16
release them again and sometimes they would like keep them in a room and like ply them with alcohol and [ __ ] and like
00:19:21
make them do it oh that'd be really there is a theory that like coping was responsible for this and that maybe like
00:19:28
that's what it which would be wild and just really [ __ ] sad yeah it's like it's fascinating and really tragic and
00:19:35
sad um but like we'll go into it at a later date I think for sure but just know the man had a strange troubled you
00:19:43
know weird death yeah troubled life so seeing him like contemplating his choices over his own grave after he's
00:19:51
died seems pretty [ __ ] poy to me I feel like that would make for the beginning of an awesome movie right just
00:19:57
po standing over his own great and then you just like delve into his life and choices that'd be sick somebody made
00:20:03
that yet well and he also shows up at the altar inside of like what was the church um Westminster hall now a lot
00:20:10
like he'll just be walking around in there that's cool um and every year since then this is just interesting to
00:20:15
me every year since the 1940s a mysterious figure visits po grave on his birthday oh I knew this which I think is
00:20:23
January 19th I'm pretty sure look it up really quick um and he leaves three red rose
00:20:29
and a half bottle ofac which is supposed to be Po's favorite poison of choice and
00:20:34
then he toasts to him and then just leaves every year and apparently one year and he leaves these people leave
00:20:41
notes sometimes one year there was a note that said Edgar I haven't forgotten you and according to America's haunted
00:20:48
road trips the original person who did this like started this whole thing died in 1998 there's proof of that but they
00:20:55
haven't revealed who it is it's never been revealed and then someone else took it up after them obsess after that
00:21:01
person died someone else has taken it upon themselves to do that that's the kind of lore that I want going on in my
00:21:06
gravite right like be nice at my grave site and just be dark and leave me weird poison and Roses one thing I would think
00:21:14
he he'd be pretty psyched about is after he died one he became insanely famous yeah but two he all his [ __ ] is so
00:21:25
synonymous with like Gothic culture and like know spooky Ravens and [ __ ] like that he's like the OG OG goth King yeah
00:21:34
it's true like he was [ __ ] up which I think kind yeah like he was [ __ ] up but obviously his like works are so
00:21:42
Gothic and wild and like you know the deep deep lore of Mr Po deep deep lore but that's egar po hanging around that's
00:21:49
[ __ ] cool there's also something that's called the screaming skull of Cambridge there tell me all about that
00:21:55
uh which was what initially actually brought me to the it would bring me to that commentary I
00:22:01
said a screaming skull what he said hey what's that about and I was like I bet it's not an actual screaming skull no it
00:22:06
is [ __ ] awesome yeah cuz I was like oh you're going to tease me with this and then it's going to be something
00:22:12
stupid nope nope scream and skull apparently a minister a local Minister was murdered nearby and after he was
00:22:19
buried his skull kept screaming relentlessly all hours of night and people said the shrieking would drive
00:22:27
people mad because it would stop so they dug him up they this is like in the 1800s they dug him up they gagged the
00:22:35
skull encased it in concrete and then decapitated him and placed the concrete screaming skull next to his grave I sort
00:22:43
of feel like there was a better way to go about that probably but it kept feel that way it kept screaming good I would
00:22:50
too scre louder you exactly you [ __ ] up I'm going get louder I'm getting louder and sometimes they can still hear
00:22:58
scream screaming coming from there screaming skull you know that gift where it's like I ain't get no sleep cuz of
00:23:05
y'all get asleep cuz of me that's all that's that's the skull that's the minister in his death That's The
00:23:12
Minister's skull gag all just gag all that's it so really was that um there's also a few more stories like Lucia
00:23:23
Watson Taylor she was a 16-year-old girl who passed away that's a really pry I know right in 1816 her ghost can be seen
00:23:31
she has very long dark hair of course she's wearing a flowing dress obviously she can be seen on very dark and foggy
00:23:37
evenings in in full body Apparition and she's always seen kneeling and praying over her own grave oh and her EP she is
00:23:46
a that's a real person in the cemetery like you can find her grave and it says her Epitaph says blessed with peculiar
00:23:54
sweetness of temper a mind pure and exalted a heart Pious and faithful she died beloved and lamented early bright
00:24:03
transient chased as morning dew she sparkled was exal and went to heaven that is so beautiful and I was
00:24:11
like Wow people really loved her she I was going to say what a loved like woman young woman like yeah
00:24:20
that's a beautiful engraving and also it would have been hella expensive very expensive but it's just like damn like
00:24:27
that what that's a beautiful Epitaph like beautiful it is that really is they also just knew how to say [ __ ] way
00:24:34
better back then did they really did but I was like she sounds like a a seriously
00:24:38
cool chick but then you wonder I'm like why is she praying over her grace I know
00:24:43
I hope like I hope she did make it to where she wanted to go I know I'm like I hope wherever it is you're you're happy
00:24:50
you know maybe you're just I'm hoping it's like a residual thing it's not just actually but there's another uh kind of
00:24:57
creepier story uh that is from the catacombs because there's catacombs here because the church was built right over
00:25:05
the cemetery that is too much in the catacombs there's a story of a woman named Leona Welsley she was a woman from
00:25:13
a local Asylum who was said to be so mad that they buried her in her straight jacket to keep her restrained in death
00:25:21
unnecessary yeah that's what I say not demure not mindful not mindful at all and people say they can see and feel her
00:25:29
following them around and she will laugh in your ear maniacally good which I was
00:25:34
like I probably would know I would do the same yeah um when also the groundkeeper from long ago named old
00:25:41
Valance obsessed he was the he was the Grave Digger and the grounds keeper he'll Chase your ass out of there if you
00:25:48
[ __ ] around in there well [ __ ] around and find out they those grounds perfectly and he will not tolerate
00:25:55
Shenanigans good and when he chases you out he'll do so with a shovel so it's just a ghost coming out
00:26:02
an old Valance ghost running at you with a shovel go hit your head out there get
00:26:07
out of there and apparently there are rumors of a lot of premature burials that happened here Sor sorry qua yeah
00:26:13
you heard it right premature because it was in the time when a lot of that would
00:26:17
happen often like they didn't have all the technology to know when someone was actually dead which is why they had all
00:26:24
those the bells and the other things where they could like you know grave alarm ESS [ __ ] um this happened a lot so
00:26:31
they I mean that's a perfect recipe for a ghost if you ask me absolutely it is and the catacombs are especially haunted
00:26:38
down there because of this yeah CU they are some of the oldest Graves uh there was also a lot of grave robbings down
00:26:43
there especially in the catacombs worse kind of individual yes truly fullon body
00:26:49
snatchings as well because this was in the time there's a um there's a Medical College nearby and this was and it's an
00:26:57
old Medical College it was in the times when students or people hired by medical
00:27:02
colleges would come snatch cavers to use in the Cav Labs yep so that's not great
00:27:08
for the people who were buried there no and also bodies were just moved into different areas or gravestones were
00:27:15
moved and just left like bodies in different places because of like code violations and [ __ ] when they were like
00:27:21
redoing this whole place oh wow so they have actually like there's rumors that they found bodies like under walkways
00:27:27
and [ __ ] oh man no that's really sad yeah um so it's gnarly you know in these streets sometimes it do be but when the
00:27:36
church and this is just uh what I'll leave you on for this one when the church ceased being an actual church
00:27:41
around 1977 in the 19 late 1970s early 80s local school children would use the graveyard as a playground because ' 80s
00:27:51
you probably shouldn't do that there were reports of people witnessing kids throwing around human skulls and [ __ ] I
00:27:57
don't have a lot to say about that and at the same time so much to say about that y
00:28:05
that's a that's a [ __ ] up kid that's that's a lot if if I was a child and somebody threw a skull at me I'd leave
00:28:12
I'd leave I'd leave I'd leave wherever call an adult I say Mom can you pick me up I'm scared yeah that would that would
00:28:18
not be something I would engage in when I was little and I would hope my children would have something to say
00:28:23
about that as well yeah they're better than that if I threw a human skull at one of my kids they would not just catch
00:28:27
it didn't and go about their days like they'd be like why' you do that if you threw a human skull at one of your kids
00:28:32
we'd have to have a serious talk with you true I'd say John John it's gone to on it's gone too far John I'm on my way
00:28:39
we got to talk to this if another kid threw human skull at one of my kids they'd be like this doesn't feel right
00:28:44
yeah no you know I feel I am confident in that and also it' be on site it's true just kidding it's true uh but yeah
00:28:51
so that's Westminster Hall and burial ground in Baltimore Maryland wow yeah all right well my cemetery is Bachelor's
00:29:01
Grove Cemetery ooh and according to many honey many many many Bachelor's Grove Cemetery which is in Illinois is one of
00:29:11
the most haunted locations in the world oh we love to see it in this world in our world yeah our universe if you we
00:29:23
love to see a globally recognized haunt we sure [ __ ] do now the cemetery happens to be the
00:29:30
oldest one in all of Cook County the first burial on record there took place in 1834 damn yeah a long time ago
00:29:39
altogether there's about 80 Graves on site but that's scared the [ __ ] out of me that was a crazy bark either Sydney
00:29:46
or blanch was like that's wrong she was like she said there's about 78 she said don't you dare round up don't you round
00:29:55
up I don't know why I made your dog other they became Southern well one of them is blanch you know Deo blanch Deo
00:30:03
she's Southern Bale I know you know but the thing is a lot of these Graves have been dug up vandalized like this place
00:30:11
is desecrated and people treat it like [ __ ] people get it together so guess what if you're desecrating Graves yeah
00:30:18
if you're going to go visit this place it I found differing opinions on whether or not it's open to the public like some
00:30:24
people say it's closed some people are like no you can go in the daytime no it's silly fun I don't know
00:30:28
um so like enter at your own risk but only if you're there to be nice yeah and respectful yeah if you're there to steal
00:30:37
headstones I don't know you and I don't like you and you know what you're not listening to our podcast because our
00:30:42
listeners are respectful exactly so turn this off if you're not turn it off but anyway the cemetery most likely gets its
00:30:49
name from the bachelder family who settled there around 1820 so it's not the bachelor reality show no well now it
00:30:58
is now it is cuz over time the spelling of the name probably changed depending on the source and eventually when the
00:31:04
family no longer owned the property there was a group of single men who moved to the area and that's it was like
00:31:10
four or five single men they were like oh my God Bachelor's Grove that's why they started calling at that now
00:31:15
eventually ownership transferred over to the Fulton family around the early 1900s
00:31:19
it seems one of the youngest Fultons buried in the cemetery is Emma Fulton who's only one years old when she passed
00:31:25
away and she'll come back later so remember that I'm on forever but according to ghost city tours everything
00:31:31
was going pretty well for quite some time while the cemetery was under the Fulton family but around 1950 the mid I
00:31:39
think it's the Midlothian Turnpike it was rerouted and the B and Bachelor's Grove
00:31:44
became an even more rural area than it once was okay so the turnpike used to like like it was a very frequently
00:31:51
traveled road but when they relocated it the Old Turnpike didn't really have a use anymore so it's like really rural
00:31:58
now creepy yeah now since it was out of the way of all the hustle and bustle for
00:32:02
the city of the city it was the perfect place for the 60s teens to get their lovers lane Vibes on oh hell yeah it was
00:32:09
of course and of course for party animals they could have their Woods parties they could get drunk and go
00:32:15
crazy in the cemetery they could get lit exactly but unfortunately that came along with a lot of vandalism including
00:32:24
grave digging again I say get it to together get it together get it together I was
00:32:30
not out here grave digging no I never ever grave doging I never ever will no and you were a Pretty Reckless teen and
00:32:38
you weren't graved di this is true I partied in the woods but we just partied in the woods like I didn't [ __ ] anything
00:32:44
up if you came across a grave you left it be if I came across a grave I'd probably leave to be honest I'd be like
00:32:50
well we shouldn't be here yeah this this is Hallowed Ground this is disrespectful
00:32:54
but this is not the only time this thing is this next thing that I'm going to talk about has happened but in 1973 the
00:32:59
Chicago Tribune reported that 17 teens were quote unquote seized while they were in the middle of trying to dig up a
00:33:06
grave what the [ __ ] was the purpose like that's Wy me well they do tell us the
00:33:11
purpose oh the police said the youth arrived Wednesday night got out and prepared to resume digging when the
00:33:17
policemen announced themselves the youths told the police they were doing it as a lark which is like a joke just
00:33:23
like a fun little they were doing it for lws yeah just doing it for the plot super duper funny it's all for the plot
00:33:30
kick police lking it up yeah just digging up dead bodies are you [ __ ] kidding me bro who are you yeah that's
00:33:37
the thing they got in trouble I think um most of them like had to be bailed out and like do some community service [ __ ]
00:33:44
why are you bailing them out probably the parents let him sit in there I would have if that was my kid I'd be like you
00:33:49
just dug up a gravee why don't you think about your [ __ ] life you just desecrated a grave you think about your
00:33:53
[ __ ] life and I'll think about my choices as a parent contemplate your [ __ ] yeah we'll do this separate but
00:33:59
police presidents definitely became more regular once they realized how bad the vandalism was becoming cuz it got really
00:34:05
bad to the point where people were just like knocking over headstones stealing head Stones that's become such a
00:34:11
frequent thing that there are so many graves that are just unmarked I hope that they are so [ __ ] haunted yeah
00:34:17
like those people like I hope they are being driven mad yeah I hope so too I truly do yeah that's the thing you steal
00:34:23
a gravestone out of a graveyard or you knock one over intentionally like or like vandalize one in any way I hope you
00:34:30
have the The Haunting you deserve I agree cuz just what are you getting out of that yeah it's so [ __ ] go to a
00:34:36
rage room yeah I just don't get it take a walk Fu you doing yeah sit down graveyards are so peaceful just take a
00:34:44
walk yeah thr some [ __ ] headphones on and transport to another time and place what are you doing knocking [ __ ] over I
00:34:51
don't get it no but because the vandalism was ramping up police presence definitely became a more uh frequent
00:34:58
site but even as recently as 2009 there's been vandalism discovered with people literally spray painting the
00:35:04
Tombstones man like get a life yeah truly but some people also say the cemetery became a very popular place
00:35:10
with satanic worshippers and even the mob wao the M makes an appearance yeah obviously before police presence got a
00:35:18
little heavier there yeah but there's a swamp behind the cemetery and it said that after they took people out there
00:35:24
you know to kill the mob style they just throw their bodies into the swamp yeah I
00:35:29
mean what else are you going to do you know damn that's crazy that's some mob [ __ ] right there that is some mob [ __ ]
00:35:34
um and then as far as the satanic worshiping goes police say that they found Chicken Heads littering the ground
00:35:40
and Trigger warning dead dogs on the property that's [ __ ] up which you know lends itself to satanic worshipping
00:35:46
rumors lends itself to [ __ ] Behavior I agree is what it does I agree yeah uh one of the Paranormal researches that
00:35:54
they had on the Ghost Adventures episode because Ghost Adventures the Ghost Adventures episode John Stevenson he was
00:36:00
one of the paranormal researchers and he said he remembers being at the cemetery
00:36:04
when he was younger and he said he actually saw what he assumed was some kind of Satanic ritual going on because
00:36:10
people were dressed in these black robes like standing around a fire and chanting
00:36:14
things at the same time damn that's pretty scary it's pretty satanic could be fires and chanting robes robes you
00:36:23
know togetherness together Community vibes spooky Vibes I'm like that could have just been witches could just been
00:36:31
some witches vibing I agree to be honest well one of the most famous ghost sightings and my particular favorite
00:36:37
ghost sighting in Bachelor's Grove is the woman in white or the Madonna as she's called I've seen this one this
00:36:44
picture oh my God in a few books I was always fascinated by this picture it's so beautiful yeah I remember cuz I was
00:36:54
one of those kids who would look at haunting books like all the time yeah like obsessively in pictures like there's
00:37:02
like the brown ghost or something like that which is like and it's like a a photo of this like Spectre coming down
00:37:09
the St down the staircase right and it's like a it's like it's like the brown lady or something like that I think
00:37:15
she's supposed to be wearing like a brown outfit or something but it looks like a [ __ ] terrifying I know the one
00:37:19
you're talking about I was so obsessed with that picture but it [ __ ] me up I also think well if it [ __ ] you up and
00:37:25
it still is I think they debunked that one did they I think they debunked that one
00:37:30
B yeah it was like somebody like put something on the like lens of the camera or something like [ __ ] with the
00:37:36
negatives I'm going to look this up because I've been holding on to that for decades no I'm sorry to have cred your
00:37:44
life no but but you know what this picture you're about to talk about is another one yeah that I remember just
00:37:50
obsessively staring at this photo and just being like is this [ __ ] real because I just couldn't comprehend it
00:37:57
they haven't debunked it whoa they haven't debunked it nobody's been able to we'll post the picture because she
00:38:04
was captured though the Madonna of Bachelor's Grove was captured in a now famous photograph it's the one we're
00:38:09
talking about it is stunningly hauntingly breathtakingly beautiful I will never be over it I honestly want to
00:38:17
get a print for this room and hang honestly I agree it's a gorgeous photo it's so it's like Melancholy but winds
00:38:26
beautiful and spooky very very beautiful yeah in the photo she's got this long brown hair and she's wearing a white
00:38:32
flowing dress and she's sitting on top of a checkered tomb kind of looking off into the distance and parts of her are
00:38:39
like translucent yeah it's gorgeous and they haven't been able to debunk that one this one yeah yeah no that one they
00:38:46
I I was looking it up I don't I haven't found any evidence of it at least no not
00:38:49
this one yeah but other people claim that they've seen this woman wandering around the cemetery and they say she
00:38:56
seems to be looking for someone uh something or someone sometimes she's seen leaving flowers on other graves in
00:39:02
early sighting she was seen holding a baby but in more recent sighting she doesn't have the baby anymore which is
00:39:08
interesting now there's a grave in the cemetery and its headstone just says infant daughter so some people think
00:39:14
these two things are connected like the Madonna and the infant daughter okay um something super creepy but sweet is that
00:39:21
people will now leave baby toys at that infant daughter grave site oh my God yeah
00:39:27
it seems that the first reports of the Madonna of Bachelor's Grove came from a radio radio show in the' 70s where
00:39:34
someone called in with a sighting but there are two main theories as to who the woman could be and they both
00:39:39
actually come from the same family so there's Catherine I think it's vote fton and then Luella Fulton Rogers and they
00:39:46
were sisters-in-law back in the 1930s okay according to grunge.com the infant daughter marker marker could be the
00:39:53
grave of Marsha May who was Katherine's daughter apparently there was like some turmoil in the family around the time
00:40:00
that Marsha passed away cuz obviously she passed away when she was a baby yeah and for whatever reason Catherine's
00:40:06
parents wouldn't allow their grandchild a Fulton to be buried on vote land H so when Catherine passed away she wasn't
00:40:15
buried in the Fulton plot but somewhere far away and some believe that her spirit roams all the way back to
00:40:20
Bachelor's Grove where Marca ended up being buried to like check in on her daughter oh okay I love that yeah yeah
00:40:28
now others believe that the woman in white isn't actually Catherine but her sister-in-law Luella unfortunately
00:40:35
Luella died right near Bachelor's Grove on the week of her 60th birthday she died in a hit and run accident and she
00:40:42
happens to be buried in Bachelor's Grove Cemetery next to her sister Emma fton ah
00:40:49
now Emma's headstone was stolen from the cemetery by some ass hat and because this happens so frequently the stone
00:40:57
wasn't handed back like wasn't put back in the cemetery instead it was handed over to Tinley Park Historical Society
00:41:03
for safekeeping cuz they don't want people just to like go back and steal it all over again yeah but those who
00:41:08
believe that the woman in white is Luella point to a photograph that bears a striking resemblance we'll post it and
00:41:15
they say that she's most likely wandering around looking for her sister's headstone oh my goodness yeah
00:41:20
that like breaks my heart I know I'm not sure which one I believe like I I feel like either could fit it makes sense
00:41:26
both of them and either way it's really [ __ ] sad yeah cuz she seems just lost and like very unsettled and they care
00:41:33
for the baby like a lot and it's interesting that whoever the woman in white was was carrying a baby for some
00:41:39
time but now isn't ah that is really interesting yeah now another paranormal uh happening that's been reported on for
00:41:46
decades at this point with many people saying the same thing is the disappearing Farmhouse it's also called
00:41:53
The Magic House and the Phantom house all right spill that [ __ ] cuz I'm in the
00:41:59
Chicago Tribune wrote the site also has a disappearing house at night people see
00:42:03
an old one-story Farmhouse it's been spotted on both sides of the dirt road as you enter the cemetery people who
00:42:09
don't know each other all draw sketches of the same house even down to the lamp burning faintly inside they're
00:42:15
flabbergasted to know there's no house there what so people all say like people really agree on like most of the details
00:42:24
they all say that the house is a white Victorian era house with a porch a swing and a white picket fence what the [ __ ]
00:42:32
the only thing that really varies about this story that people will give is where they see the house and whether it
00:42:39
looks solid or translucent some people say it looks like a legit house that is just there and then other people say
00:42:47
it's like almost translucent and then every in every story the house either shrinks the
00:42:53
closer you get to it or it just completely disappears oh my God I want to see this there's also no evidence
00:43:02
that a house ever existed on the property no so like no hello hello hello that's Bonkers like that is spectral a
00:43:13
spectral house and the thing the other thing is that like people will go and they'll experience that like they'll see
00:43:18
the house it'll disappear or it'll shrink and then they'll go back with somebody else and be like I have to show
00:43:23
you this and like they hope it happens again most people have never seen it twice oh I love it isn't that so bad
00:43:30
once in a lifetime [ __ ] now another paranormal sighting is the blue light phenomenon and this is the most um
00:43:37
reported one from Bachelor's Grove Cemetery oh okay according to research done by Peter I think it's creia uh he's
00:43:44
the founder of Bachelor's Grove Cemetery and settlement Research Center and he's
00:43:48
done a ton of writing about the different haunts here so definitely check them out but he said the first
00:43:53
report of this seems to come from Jack hermansky back in 1970 Jack was out in the cemetery and he said he saw this
00:44:00
blue light and he said as he watched it the light quote grew as large as a basketball blinked in 10 to 20 second
00:44:07
intervals and rapidly changed positions wo so the sightings differ and opinions about when it's cited also
00:44:15
differ some people say they see it during the day but other people say it only comes out on clear very moonlit
00:44:21
nights oh I love that some people have been chased by this light they claim St some people also say they felt compelled
00:44:29
to follow it and have started to follow it and have made it pretty far and then they'll be startled when it appears
00:44:36
right behind them oo like it'll be like leading the way and then you'll like you'll lose track of it and you'll turn
00:44:42
around and it'll be right behind you and you're like what do you want what's up what's up like what are you trying to
00:44:48
tell me what do you need what's going on that's creepy One account also says that
00:44:53
they were pushed to the ground by the light but I don't personally think the light would be that
00:44:58
rude yeah I age I like the light I don't want the light to be that rude I don't think it is yeah now on Ghost Adventures
00:45:06
they actually did see a blinking light off in the distance it's [ __ ] clear as day I couldn't tell if it was blue
00:45:11
cuz of the night vision camera yeah but they captured it and it like moves and everything it was spooky as yeah that is
00:45:19
spooky now one of the more rare reported sightings is the yellow man yellow man mhm Peter creia wrote that the first
00:45:28
written record talking about the yellow Man sighting was in October of 1984 the Chicago Sun Times reported that
00:45:35
researcher Norman basil I think it is Saw The Apparition and took a photo using a thousand speeed film Norman
00:45:42
basil told them a month and a half ago I saw an apparition standing by a tree it
00:45:46
was a yellow figure a man with a hat probably in his 40s now so that's like what got reported but apparently that
00:45:54
night Norman and a group of paranormal researchers including Dale kasmarik I think is how
00:46:00
you say it he's the president of the ghost research society and he also I don't know if it's him who's responsible
00:46:06
if it's somebody in that society that took that famous picture of the white woman oh the woman in white oh [ __ ] um
00:46:13
but he was also camping with Norman and they were all you know doing research but it was one of the other researchers
00:46:20
supposedly who saw the yellow man and there actually wasn't a photo taken and they were all so shaken because because
00:46:27
after The Apparition disappeared they saw quote red streaking lights and watched in disbelief as a single tree
00:46:33
began to shake frantically what isn't that [ __ ] terrifying that is terrifying after they saw that they
00:46:39
packed up and got the [ __ ] out of there [ __ ] that I agree but another woman saw the yellow
00:46:47
man Apparition while she was investigating the area she was actually getting bored because she wasn't
00:46:52
experiencing anything like she went here with these hopes of you know seeing the
00:46:56
house cat ing the lady in white nothing was happening yeah and she was thinking like I'm going to pack up and head out
00:47:01
of here soon like nothing has happened and that's when she saw The Apparition oh [ __ ] yeah so The Apparition was like
00:47:07
all right you want to leave you're going to leave let me show you something now the crazy thing about this experience is
00:47:13
that she was there with two other people and she's the only one who saw it that's
00:47:18
weird but she literally saw it and just started running she left she was so scared she was like [ __ ] this nope
00:47:24
another woman who was investigating the cemetery nah Jen Janowski was distracted
00:47:30
and standing by one of the graves in the lot when she saw something out of the corner of her eye and at the time she
00:47:35
started to feel really dizzy and lightheaded she said but obviously she didn't want to miss the opportunity to
00:47:40
photograph whatever this was so she whipped around to take the photo and she realized that her camera was on a
00:47:45
completely different setting than the one she'd put it on oo she said once I started feeling dizzy it was almost as
00:47:51
though I was surround somehow surrounded and being guided to take this photo when
00:47:55
I grabbed my digitala camera I noticed that it was turning on and off by itself and it was on a different setting than
00:48:00
the one I had chosen earlier that's weird yeah now other uh haunts include people seeing Phantom old timey cars
00:48:08
like still driving on the road other versions of the blue light there's also people that see like red lights too okay
00:48:15
um some people have seen a phantom Black Dog either sitting at the entrance or running along the paths of the woods I
00:48:21
love a black dog I do too and guess what one of our listeners has has been to this Cemetery of course and wrote us a
00:48:29
captivating tale about multiple experiences that they've had course so this is lady's tale hell yeah lady says
00:48:37
Hey Y'all lady here I love you and your podcast so much and I binged nearly everything in about 3 weeks I haven't
00:48:42
heard Bachelor's Grove brought up before until now lady until now and just wanted
00:48:47
to share a few of my experiences from back in the day when I wasn't as much of a little [ __ ] about spooky things all
00:48:53
of these stories took place in the Years two of 2005 to 2007 while I was a teenager so they're probably less
00:48:59
dramatic than what really happened but they are things I will also never forget I also apologize that my broke ass is
00:49:05
writing this on my phone since I don't have a working computer all names have been changed so they wrote Bachelor's
00:49:11
Grove is a haunted cemetery in Illinois it's pretty Infamous for many reasons including uh producing one of the
00:49:16
clearest pictures ever produced of a spirit there are many fascinating tales about this place and I have a few of my
00:49:21
very own which are probably which uh probably aren't going to be exactly what you're expecting I I have three scary
00:49:27
ass experiences and an ending pallet cleanser that's relatively funny to set this up in order to get to the cemetery
00:49:33
you have to park at a forest preserve across the street and walk a trail that's about a half a mile long the
00:49:38
entrance to this Trail has a train has a chain across with a sign saying no trespassing so I'm assuming it's closed
00:49:45
I was just going to say maybe that gives us a little tip which naturally no one gave a [ __ ] about but the forest
00:49:51
preserved parking lot would close at sundown so there was also a long uh back Trail where you would need to park in a
00:49:56
neighborhood and walk a few blocks to the Forest Edge where that Trail began and eventually it meets up with the main
00:50:01
trail leading into the cemetery everything about this place is straight up creepy because of all the stories
00:50:07
surrounding the cemetery it naturally brought out flocks of teenagers that like to go there at night and it was
00:50:12
also a place to party thankfully we never partied out there and a few times we went during the day and would clean
00:50:17
up garbage left over from other people oh that's nice it is from the first time I went there I had a respect for the
00:50:23
area the graves were over 100 years old and this was a place that others abused which I do regret taking entertainment
00:50:29
from it however I'm glad I had these experiences because they've stuck with me all these years so to get to the
00:50:35
juice my first experience came at about 9:00 p.m. on a summer night when I was 16 my best friend Maggie and I decided
00:50:41
to go to the back Trail since all our plans fell through we walked a few blocks and came to the street that leads
00:50:47
to the back Trail we were joking around being kind of loud and annoying we got about a block away and my friend grabs
00:50:53
my arm and just stops me Maggie says what the [ __ ] and and points toward the entrance of the trail there's a massive
00:50:59
Buck standing in the entrance now deer are very common in in in Illinois so this isn't unheard of however this deer
00:51:06
did not move and it wouldn't take our its eyes off our faces we stared at it for a minute and I said [ __ ] no let's go
00:51:13
Maggie said to wait a minute since it'll just move I decided I did not want to be
00:51:18
gored by a deer that night so refused and said nope I have the keys let's bounce I like that a forth thought yeah
00:51:23
that's smart yeah as we went back and forth the car drove past this deer and it didn't move it kept staring at us and
00:51:30
that image still haunts me we started walking quickly to the car and turned back a few times and the deer never
00:51:36
moved what the after walking a few blocks we lost sight of the entrance thankfully but once we turned back there
00:51:42
was a dog sitting in the middle of the street just looking at us if it was the deer I would have literally combusted in
00:51:48
the middle of the street you're not supposed to run from a potential Predator but we just booked it the
00:51:52
remaining few blocks to my car fck isn't that weird that's creepy it's like I feel like there's like Spirits like in
00:51:59
the animals looking out for this place now second spooky at this time my mom and stepdad had an amazing dog named
00:52:06
George rip and he was a huge Rottweiler in German Shepherd mix he was the best dog I've ever met he was extremely
00:52:12
friendly and well- Tred the only time he would ever get aggressive is if you were
00:52:16
playing that way or if he came across other dogs and even then it was out of excitement I never saw him act
00:52:22
aggressively towards other people for no reason one day another friend Amanda and
00:52:26
I I decided to go to Bachelor's Grove and take Rocky with us I think the dog's name was Rocky but it got messed up at
00:52:32
the first part oh okay uh since it was during the day we parked across the street and went to the cemetery walked
00:52:37
around a bit and left after about an hour of just hanging out during this time we passed multiple people and a few
00:52:43
of them even came up to Rocky and petted him and did small talk in hindsight it's
00:52:47
kind of weird of people to do hiking banter when trespassing in a cemetery but anyway you know Rocky was so happy
00:52:53
since he loves the attention in the forest walking the short Trail back to to the car a large man wearing a black
00:52:58
leather trench coat was walking the other direction toward the forest not really weird and we initially were not
00:53:03
scared because there were people in the cemetery so we weren't necessarily alone
00:53:07
when we were about 30 feet away Rocky just stops I immediately got freaked out because he usually tries to approach
00:53:13
people and I usually have to hold him back but Rocky then stood in front of me and started growling toward this guy I
00:53:19
had to kneel down and wrap my arms around his chest to keep him from attacking that guy the dude didn't even
00:53:24
look at us he walked straight past us and nearly ran into the dog since he didn't even move over he never looked
00:53:29
back and after he turned toward the entrance of the cemetery Rocky calmed down enough for me to keep him walking
00:53:34
to the car so that was weird so that was weird final spooky and the last time I have ever been to the cemetery Amanda
00:53:41
and I had a sleepover and being the degenerate teenagers we were we stayed up all night and thought it would be
00:53:45
really cool to go to the Bachelor's Grove at dawn since we'd never done that before Dawn so it's summer still and we
00:53:52
get there at about 5:30 a.m. and the sun is rising it was a little foggy near the
00:53:56
ground but clear outside luckily the forest preserve parking lot was unlocked so we could take the short Trail we got
00:54:01
to the entrance of the trail and for some reason I just immediately felt dread I don't know how to explain it it
00:54:07
wasn't like a fight or flight or fight thing it was just an intense sadness but I just ignored it and we start walking
00:54:14
we never talked this whole way which I didn't realize until after the fact every step that I took felt heavy my
00:54:20
whole body felt like it was fighting to push through the space in front of me just to take a step all the while the
00:54:25
dread is growing I even feel kind of lightheaded about halfway down the trail I stopped Amanda also stopped and looked
00:54:31
at me and we just turned around and started walking back to the car now my figh ORF flight kicked in we went back
00:54:37
to the car and shared that we both felt similarly it was terrifying I've never felt that intense feeling of dread ever
00:54:43
again and I really hope I never do I literally never went back after that day and I never will holy [ __ ] which that
00:54:50
had to be like such an intense feeling yeah now for a relatively funny story a few weeks before for my final visit a
00:54:57
huge group of us Rowdy teenagers decided to go to the cemetery to hang out because why not violate a peaceful place
00:55:03
when you're bored and have nowhere to go see just what we were talking about as long as you're not tipping headstones
00:55:07
yeah so it was completely dark out and we needed to take the back way the walk was fine but we were super loud we get
00:55:13
to the cemetery and we break off into groups and walk around after about 10 minutes another group shows up running
00:55:18
in terrifying and said the thing all teenagers dread the [ __ ] cops are coming the cops everyone books it in
00:55:25
different direction keep in mind this is not a maintained Forest forested Area so
00:55:30
outside the short main trail to the cemetery it's a [ __ ] Forest so me and like three others trudge into this
00:55:35
haunted hell forest trying to find a path to the street so we can just walk back to the car after about an hour of
00:55:41
using our Nokia phones for light we finally get to the street so I am a 5-3 petite white ass girl and let me tell
00:55:47
you what people saw walking out of this haunted hell forest I was wearing black shorts and a dirty white tank top and I
00:55:53
was torn all up from the thorns and branches I had small Cuts all over my body including my face that were just
00:55:59
dripping blood at this point anyone driving past at that moment saw a child walk out of this haunted forest covered
00:56:04
in blood all over my body and no one stopped anyway you guys are great and I hope you come to Dallas or Chicago one
00:56:10
day stay weird thanks lady holy [ __ ] interesting Cemetery that Cemetery sounds gnarly I want to go to there I
