00:00:00
Leighton Clark Uncle Tex welcome to the
00:00:02
podcast here we go [ __ ] here we go
00:00:05
here we go um by the way um I'm
00:00:07
rebranding this is the you are the first
00:00:10
guest on the brand new podcast the Dom
00:00:13
Harbor podcast the first one yeah the
00:00:15
first EP it's not let's go no longer
00:00:18
Runners only with dom Harvey it's now
00:00:19
the Dom Harvey podcast and you're the
00:00:21
very fiskiest time oh [ __ ] yeah I feel
00:00:22
special bro I mean I already am special
00:00:24
but yeah handicapped special you can
00:00:27
laugh no why would I laugh at that
00:00:30
because it's funny okay
00:00:32
that's an awkward laugh it lasted but
00:00:35
yeah it's good to be here okay you've
00:00:36
sworn a couple of times already and
00:00:37
that's that's fine is that is that a is
00:00:40
that a turkey yeah yeah uh like um just
00:00:43
a bit of everything bro yeah I kind of
00:00:44
embrace it as it comes
00:00:47
um
00:00:48
but yeah I'm an all-around like oh sweet
00:00:51
here and do everything I want to do
00:00:52
anyway yeah yeah when I was growing up
00:00:54
bro I had I I used to get told off all
00:00:56
the time for for swearing a net
00:00:59
[ __ ] your dog in your Runner now what
00:01:01
was that sign you put the other day [ __ ]
00:01:03
your dog and your mother [ __ ] you and
00:01:04
your dog crack me up but yeah most of
00:01:07
the time bro I'm just I'm just uh if I'm
00:01:09
not [ __ ] swearing or Tekken I'm just
00:01:11
having a bit of fun with myself and
00:01:12
embracing myself yeah so so these um
00:01:15
because you were we were standing around
00:01:16
for like 10 minutes before we started uh
00:01:18
recording the podcast and I noticed you
00:01:20
like you slap yourself on the back a
00:01:21
couple of times it was like an elbow
00:01:23
sort of jolt oh elbow yeah and um and
00:01:26
that noise that you made just a second
00:01:28
ago so
00:01:29
uh by the way I may ask a lot of
00:01:32
questions that seem ignorant because I
00:01:33
know I know nothing about tourettes okay
00:01:36
that's cool so
00:01:38
so what's going on in in your brain just
00:01:40
before those those things happen are you
00:01:43
like I need to get the sound out I need
00:01:44
to do this I don't know but it just kind
00:01:47
of happens I don't know what's going to
00:01:49
come by that sound I don't know that was
00:01:50
going to come out it just kind of
00:01:51
happens bro and I kind of flow with it
00:01:53
and Let It Go
00:01:54
um
00:01:55
yeah no that's that's it yeah and and
00:01:58
all the movements I might get you a
00:02:00
couple times but I'll never try
00:02:02
physically hurt you yeah yeah I might
00:02:05
head back
00:02:06
hey [ __ ] I always say this to kids on
00:02:08
the street hey [ __ ] hell I'm not
00:02:10
gonna bite you I might hit but you
00:02:12
though and they always laugh it breaks
00:02:13
the ice yeah that's always say kids
00:02:15
that's funny but I mean what you have
00:02:17
done in the last few years for uh
00:02:19
Tourette's and for people with
00:02:21
Tourette's it's phenomenal bro thank you
00:02:22
bro I appreciate it it is it is really
00:02:24
really cool it's like um just uh I know
00:02:27
I suppose open the doors of appreciation
00:02:28
and understanding for a lot of people
00:02:31
um which must make it I I by the way I
00:02:33
want to get through everything like um
00:02:34
I'm yours bro I'm anyone's with a
00:02:37
tequila but I'm yours okay all right
00:02:39
well let's go right back to the
00:02:40
beginning what are your
00:02:43
what are your Recollections of like the
00:02:44
first four years of your life so it was
00:02:46
like before you I believe you were like
00:02:47
four years old when you started doing
00:02:49
some like blinking yep blinking and
00:02:50
verbal text um it's pretty hard out bro
00:02:53
um I I was oh I was a happy kid bow up
00:02:55
until the age of nine I wanted to kill
00:02:56
myself and it was pretty bad but growing
00:02:59
up bro I was a happy kid man just knew I
00:03:01
was a little bit different from from Joe
00:03:02
blogs down the road but you're happy as
00:03:04
bro yeah love life loved eating food
00:03:07
love running around footballs and
00:03:09
[ __ ] soccer balls yeah bro yeah I
00:03:11
loved it man but do you do you remember
00:03:13
like being like preschool age because I
00:03:15
I remember [ __ ] all from so you don't
00:03:17
remember where has your mum said to you
00:03:20
like oh we took you to a specialist
00:03:21
because this or oh every yeah
00:03:25
big one no no I don't remember much in
00:03:28
my younger AJ like when I was
00:03:31
four I just remember House parties at
00:03:34
home and Mum and Dad would have a party
00:03:35
sometimes on a Friday and their mates
00:03:37
would come over that's when I was really
00:03:39
young but no I don't I Remember music
00:03:42
certain music my mom used to listen to
00:03:43
LL Cool J and all that really but
00:03:46
against his paradise yeah Coolio as well
00:03:49
yep but yeah those are my days going up
00:03:52
um yeah no I didn't really have too many
00:03:54
Recollections though okay so you were
00:03:56
diagnosed with um Tourette's ADHD and
00:04:00
OCD OCD at what age well my doctors the
00:04:04
notes are quite quite broad on my on my
00:04:07
things it was between the ages of six
00:04:09
and nine and um but they already knew I
00:04:13
had a disability they just wanted to
00:04:15
they wanted to dummy on me really for
00:04:17
example they would like test certain
00:04:19
medications I'd be like new ritalins in
00:04:21
that between those ages and see how it
00:04:22
would help me and how it wouldn't or you
00:04:25
know pros and cons but yeah that's when
00:04:26
I got diagnosed between those ages yeah
00:04:28
and then
00:04:30
so so when did the uh like the swearing
00:04:32
start that aspect of Tourette's or
00:04:34
saying inappropriate things like 11 or
00:04:36
12 right yeah copelandia just happened
00:04:38
to happen yeah that's the name of the
00:04:40
Tourette's copper Alia there's different
00:04:42
types of three it's just like these
00:04:43
different types of autism
00:04:44
Spectrum wise so yeah I'd say I'm on the
00:04:46
worser side of mine yeah [ __ ] yeah
00:04:51
[ __ ] you then was that attack or was
00:04:53
that yeah that was taking it right right
00:04:54
funny aim it kind of worked with it yeah
00:04:57
it's like a crossover yeah okay so um so
00:05:01
so you go to preschool you start primary
00:05:03
school like what what are what are those
00:05:05
years like I mean I so I suppose I'm
00:05:08
projecting here but from when I was that
00:05:09
age all I wanted to do was fed him like
00:05:11
my mum used to make me clothes and I'd
00:05:13
get teased for the clothes I'd wear I
00:05:15
was wearing and all I wanted to do was
00:05:16
fit in yeah okay right so I can't
00:05:19
imagine I mean you're wearing homemade
00:05:21
clothes from your mum it's a bit
00:05:23
different to having
00:05:24
um you know something like Tourette's
00:05:25
but I'm guessing you're probably exactly
00:05:27
the same that you just want a [ __ ]
00:05:29
photo I understand you know I understand
00:05:30
what you're trying to say yeah yeah
00:05:32
um now I've never fit in bro I never fit
00:05:34
into anything
00:05:36
um yeah oh it's harsh
00:05:39
yeah Ed scope I I struggled yeah school
00:05:41
was the worst thing in my life I got
00:05:43
suspended from okay I've even seen this
00:05:46
on my own podcast or my own stuff onto
00:05:48
kids
00:05:50
um
00:05:51
um but I remember this one day at school
00:05:54
and we were
00:05:55
it was about a month or two before we
00:05:57
went away for camp and I was 10 years
00:06:00
old I was in room two at otorohanga
00:06:03
South school and I was really young and
00:06:05
the school was bullying me bro I
00:06:07
remember her she's still a friends of my
00:06:09
friends list to this date I don't talk
00:06:10
to her anymore she's a bit of a [ __ ]
00:06:11
but um [ __ ] she was bullying me for
00:06:14
my tourettes I would get in my face and
00:06:16
I'd be moving around and kicking and
00:06:17
doing my thing and she came too close
00:06:19
one day and I [ __ ] Fair kicked her
00:06:21
funny it was a tick right I ticked and I
00:06:24
kicked her yeah bro like
00:06:26
but Pat there bro I [ __ ] smacked her
00:06:28
up couldn't help that and I apologize
00:06:30
and then she went and told my teacher at
00:06:32
the time I'm not gonna name her and then
00:06:34
she's like go and see the principal
00:06:35
right now and then I run walked up there
00:06:37
by her dragged up to the principal's
00:06:39
office sat outside and then she comes in
00:06:42
and goes this boy's not allowed to come
00:06:43
away with us on Camp he keeps doing this
00:06:45
this and this he's a liability and I was
00:06:49
like whoa I couldn't help that if you'd
00:06:51
let me explain but I didn't get any word
00:06:53
in and so I was banned for going on year
00:06:55
seven camp
00:07:03
but it all makes sense okay so I was
00:07:06
banned from going and they wouldn't let
00:07:08
me go and I feel like
00:07:10
it was that that [ __ ] me up for a
00:07:12
[ __ ] long time because I couldn't
00:07:13
[ __ ] in the opening if she wasn't
00:07:14
bullying me I probably wouldn't
00:07:16
detecting kicked her like I fear kicked
00:07:18
her bro but she was a [ __ ] [ __ ] she
00:07:20
deserved that in the end of the day
00:07:22
um and it was just ridiculous but man
00:07:24
I'll never forget that bro when I was
00:07:26
young and they pretty much outed me
00:07:28
because of my disability and because
00:07:30
they were mocking me so yeah that broke
00:07:32
my heart when I was real young but then
00:07:34
after that bra girl thick as Skin but
00:07:37
did you at that age did you sort of have
00:07:39
an understanding of what was going on no
00:07:40
no idea because back in the 90s in the
00:07:43
early 2000s there was no understanding
00:07:45
towards turrets at all and this I mean
00:07:47
there's more of an understanding now
00:07:48
because of people like myself and others
00:07:50
abroad like-minded people but um
00:07:53
yeah no nothing no [ __ ] idea what I
00:07:56
was doing at that time I was just moving
00:07:57
around and freaking myself out I'd have
00:07:59
headaches each day because I'd be taken
00:08:01
like this 24 7. and I couldn't
00:08:03
understand why it was like that but it
00:08:05
just happened to be like that yeah
00:08:06
that's a lot to take in so you go home
00:08:08
from school those days you you
00:08:10
frustrated you're crying to your mum
00:08:12
about what's going on I know you're
00:08:13
feeling frustrated it is yeah but we
00:08:15
didn't know what to do and then I got my
00:08:17
specialist appointments in you so on and
00:08:18
so forth the rest is kind of history now
00:08:20
it was was the school quite um quite
00:08:22
good at um coping with you or managing
00:08:24
you or saying to people that say Hey
00:08:25
he's got to read it's two teachers okay
00:08:27
two teachers out of the hall or maybe a
00:08:30
few when I was really young yeah Mrs
00:08:32
Rawlings
00:08:33
who I think said they passed away not
00:08:35
that long ago and uh Mrs dentney two
00:08:39
people I I still look up to these days
00:08:42
to this day
00:08:43
um I always see Jillian around
00:08:45
dampeny I think that's who they I was
00:08:47
sorry if I've forgotten my Stephanie but
00:08:49
yeah she's the bomb here she's cool as
00:08:51
oh I saw her at the Christmas parade
00:08:53
last year in otorohanga and I gave her a
00:08:54
big hug and she said she was so proud of
00:08:56
me I'm like I'm cool now eh but yeah
00:08:59
she's she's an amazing lady and she
00:09:01
always understood me she knows my mum
00:09:02
really well when they see each other in
00:09:03
the supermarket and [ __ ] gays and
00:09:06
[ __ ] like that so that was a bad one but
00:09:08
yeah no um yeah that's just uh it's just
00:09:11
yeah I really like those women and they
00:09:13
did a lot for me growing up and kind of
00:09:15
helped me become the man I am today it
00:09:16
might sound a really weird thing going
00:09:19
way back but those women that that
00:09:21
trusted me and helped me oh man I got a
00:09:24
lot of respect for them now no it
00:09:26
doesn't sound weird at all I think like
00:09:28
teachers whether that whatever end of
00:09:29
the Spectrum in the wrong whether
00:09:30
they're super super good and
00:09:31
compassionate or super bad they um they
00:09:34
leave an impression on you for life yeah
00:09:36
bro yeah she would always yeah she was
00:09:39
always one that helped me get myself
00:09:40
back up and
00:09:46
yeah oh that's awesome and it was with
00:09:49
the bullying sort of Rife through school
00:09:51
or uh did you find like with with your
00:09:53
immediate sort of classmates or home
00:09:55
class whatever it was quite good because
00:09:56
they were understanding and it was just
00:09:58
the wider school that sort of didn't
00:10:00
understand it or
00:10:02
do you know what I mean yeah I do
00:10:04
um I think it's just a wider General
00:10:06
people didn't understand it bro yeah
00:10:09
some of the school kids understood but
00:10:10
most time I got bullied but like I said
00:10:13
but I got a sticky skin cuz
00:10:16
almost instantly yeah I just think you
00:10:18
have to I was having fights with people
00:10:20
bro but mocking me like [ __ ] [ __ ]
00:10:25
[ __ ] at me and
00:10:27
I just what did you do what'd you do
00:10:29
that for oh because you're this
00:10:31
and I just run up and kicked him or [ __ ]
00:10:33
not run up and kick them sorry
00:10:35
I you're dumb or something like that you
00:10:37
know fight fight myself back I did have
00:10:40
a kicking tick so it was pretty that was
00:10:42
pretty rough when I was younger but I
00:10:45
wouldn't ever hit anyone I'd just fight
00:10:46
with my own words yeah not until High
00:10:48
School when someone like punched me and
00:10:49
I actually hit them back but it only
00:10:51
ever happened once yeah because it's a
00:10:53
stressful way to live your life that way
00:10:54
like wake up every morning not knowing
00:10:57
what's going to happen and who's going
00:10:58
to take [ __ ] out of you and then I guess
00:10:59
just being strong and going home and
00:11:01
enjoying your dinner was a pretty tough
00:11:03
thing for me yeah was was there ever a
00:11:06
consideration
00:11:07
and not that this would be the right
00:11:09
thing to do but to like homeschool to be
00:11:11
like oh it'd be easier just uh my mum
00:11:12
couldn't afford to do that we couldn't
00:11:13
afford to do that [ __ ] Bros do [ __ ]
00:11:15
expensive we don't [ __ ] have any
00:11:17
money back then bro my old man helped us
00:11:20
through a lot and
00:11:21
yeah but apart from that no I wish I
00:11:24
could have done homeschooling but I
00:11:25
don't think there was a I don't think no
00:11:27
but I don't think necessarily be the
00:11:28
right way to go because it's like um
00:11:31
isolating yourself from socializing and
00:11:34
you need to be integrated bro you need
00:11:36
to be put into the hard yards and go the
00:11:38
the [ __ ] the three bases before you
00:11:40
can come out you know what I mean I
00:11:42
think that's yeah
00:11:43
it's a lot of adversity to go through at
00:11:45
a young age though isn't it it's a lot
00:11:46
to deal with yeah bro when I was nine
00:11:48
years old oh coming forward a little bit
00:11:49
when I was nine I was I remember I was
00:11:51
at why not all Hot Springs you've ever
00:11:52
been there
00:11:55
I do love a hot springs though but I
00:11:58
haven't been to that one oh it was way
00:11:59
means mean ears back in the day I
00:12:01
remember I was there and I'm about to
00:12:03
put a band on my arm for the Hydra slide
00:12:05
that's way back in the day and this this
00:12:07
Indian fellow there goes to me oh
00:12:10
yeah you're a skinny little Foolery far
00:12:12
out my brother but he could eat some eat
00:12:15
some um cheeseburgers my mum goes I take
00:12:19
some pretty heavy medications for his
00:12:21
disability and I remember turning to my
00:12:23
mum on that day in there in their Fuller
00:12:25
and going [ __ ] I just want to kill
00:12:26
myself yeah standing in line with all
00:12:28
these other kids that are excited as and
00:12:30
I just wanted to go home and kill myself
00:12:32
yeah at what age nine
00:12:34
I told my mum you know I wanted to
00:12:36
[ __ ] kill myself it's exactly the
00:12:37
words I used mum I don't want to be here
00:12:39
this is so I'm so over the [ __ ] that
00:12:41
broke you and then we went and got some
00:12:43
serious help yeah but hey but looking
00:12:44
forward I'm a [ __ ] cool person now
00:12:46
and I'm a good man and I know that for
00:12:47
myself and we've come a long way you you
00:12:49
are a good man and you've turned um one
00:12:51
negative into a positive well yeah yeah
00:12:53
boom baby I was gonna say that but I was
00:12:55
reluctant to say that because it's not
00:12:57
necessarily uh certainly get a boat okay
00:12:59
okay be real come on okay but [ __ ] it
00:13:02
better aiming here black people down the
00:13:03
road that's [ __ ] horrible bro I can't
00:13:05
help that let's be real and then oh
00:13:07
coming home and having to deal with the
00:13:08
repercussions of what I've just done
00:13:10
today yeah but but owning it by owning
00:13:12
it and and admitting it wasn't negative
00:13:14
now it's a positive in my life it's
00:13:16
pretty [ __ ] cool how at the age of
00:13:18
nine do you even
00:13:21
do you even know about suicide like so
00:13:23
so I I I felt good question I don't know
00:13:26
because I I um I've had some mental
00:13:29
health stuff over the last five years or
00:13:30
so and I went to see a therapist and the
00:13:32
therapist said to me
00:13:33
um have you ever thought about taking
00:13:34
your own life and uh I I had um but it
00:13:38
was the first time I'd actually said it
00:13:40
out loud to anyone to her that day and I
00:13:41
felt really I felt guilt and shame about
00:13:43
admitting it to her but I was like yeah
00:13:45
I have and she just sort of shrugged her
00:13:47
shoulders which made me feel really good
00:13:48
she goes well you know she goes it's an
00:13:50
option that's open to all of us at any
00:13:51
time she goes you could just get go out
00:13:53
the door there and jump off that balcony
00:13:55
and it'd be done with crack your head
00:13:56
yep but at the age of nine I wouldn't
00:13:58
even regardless of what pain I was and I
00:14:00
wouldn't even have thought of that as an
00:14:02
option you know I don't know how I
00:14:03
thought of that bro but that's what I
00:14:04
wanted to do and I told my mum that and
00:14:06
yeah [ __ ] I like from crazy a from the
00:14:09
perspective of I don't have my own kids
00:14:10
but from the perspective of where I am
00:14:12
now I I can't imagine how heartbreaking
00:14:14
that would be oh you should just started
00:14:15
crying we left yeah oh it's made me sad
00:14:18
but don't like be honest be honest with
00:14:20
it it's sad but that's when we're like
00:14:22
okay Rock Bottom how do we help them how
00:14:24
do we help them grow how do we get them
00:14:26
to sort of help and that's what happened
00:14:27
my mom did that my mom's a very strong
00:14:28
and beautiful woman and she's yeah she
00:14:30
did all that gave her a shout out my
00:14:32
Instagram story yesterday for helping me
00:14:35
become also the man I am today along
00:14:36
with my man so yeah bro and that's I
00:14:39
remember that day we left straight away
00:14:40
and then we went to my nana and
00:14:42
Grandad's and then we started ringing
00:14:43
around how we could help because there
00:14:44
was no support Pro back in that day no
00:14:46
support for Tourette's no nothing
00:14:47
actually I'm going to be a bit Shady but
00:14:49
there's still no support for kids with
00:14:50
Tourette's now quite a great yeah so the
00:14:53
government funding it's probably like a
00:14:54
minimal amount and uh I suppose
00:14:56
Tourette's um groups or foundations or
00:14:59
Societies or whatever probably have to
00:15:00
you know work with minimal resources
00:15:02
well
00:15:04
the well to be honest with you bro the
00:15:07
turrets Association of New Zealand
00:15:09
in my opinion uh aren't very supportive
00:15:12
of people like me
00:15:14
um a bit of a backstory and I say this
00:15:16
quite openly and quite honestly and I
00:15:18
don't give a [ __ ] if they don't like it
00:15:19
a few years ago
00:15:21
um when I started posting my videos and
00:15:22
having fun and being able to Showcase
00:15:24
who I am as a person
00:15:25
they came with an email to my management
00:15:27
saying
00:15:29
uh because originally what I wanted to
00:15:32
do was be an advocate
00:15:34
that's my worst take at the moment and
00:15:36
saying the n-word ignore that
00:15:38
um I'll just pause you right there
00:15:40
because some people will be watching
00:15:41
this on YouTube but some will be
00:15:42
listening you just put your fingers like
00:15:43
right yeah that's right yep to try and
00:15:45
make myself spew that's just the tech is
00:15:46
that a new tech yeah it's I've always
00:15:48
said that I just don't showcase it very
00:15:49
much right because it's hard for me it's
00:15:51
also embarrassing but yeah that's a bad
00:15:52
one
00:15:54
but to go back to my story
00:15:56
um I'm gonna try and make this as brief
00:15:58
as I can because I know you've got heaps
00:15:59
of [ __ ] questions
00:16:01
um they emailed my management and said
00:16:03
bro like [ __ ] no [ __ ] um
00:16:07
what Layton is doing because oh I wanted
00:16:09
to Advocate and go around the country
00:16:11
and and talk about Tourette's in my
00:16:13
other relate to schools and do all that
00:16:15
sort of [ __ ] right down there you know I
00:16:17
want to spread it and spread Awareness
00:16:18
on it and I thought this was a really
00:16:19
cool idea someone like me going to a
00:16:21
school yelling [ __ ] can't [ __ ] penis
00:16:22
[ __ ] in front of kids and [ __ ]
00:16:24
normalizing like hey this is what Terry
00:16:26
says it's okay and then they said yeah
00:16:29
we'd really like to do that but we don't
00:16:30
agree with what leighton's doing we
00:16:32
think it's bad for schools
00:16:34
um and their people are in the
00:16:36
schoolyard mocking and taking the piss
00:16:39
out of his text I'm like
00:16:40
well hold on let's digress a bit
00:16:43
um isn't that a win for us because kids
00:16:45
are now talking about Tourette's what
00:16:46
the [ __ ] have you done in your eight
00:16:47
years that you've been around nothing in
00:16:49
my point exactly I've got 25 million
00:16:51
views last month what did you do
00:16:53
nothing right so you're getting paid
00:16:56
from the government to do all this
00:16:57
[ __ ] [ __ ] and it's still not getting
00:16:58
out there nothing exactly so um it's a
00:17:02
bit of a some of the people from the
00:17:03
association are really cool they like me
00:17:05
and I've got time for them they might if
00:17:07
there's anything happening like if I do
00:17:09
a television appearance in
00:17:10
and I'm trying to promote something to
00:17:12
it so
00:17:13
usually go to the association and ask
00:17:15
for someone to speak but um I haven't
00:17:17
spoken to them in like four and a half
00:17:18
five years now yeah I've got no time for
00:17:20
people that just are money hungry
00:17:21
there's also other stories that we could
00:17:24
delve into that I've had from farnos
00:17:26
across the Motu across the across the
00:17:28
country that that I've had things and
00:17:30
dealings with the association
00:17:32
um real bad ones but I'm not here to
00:17:35
throw that sort of shade I'm just here
00:17:36
to tell my story so and actually I'll
00:17:38
tell you off camera it's going to
00:17:39
[ __ ] blow your mind actually but I'm
00:17:42
not going to sit here because I'll
00:17:43
probably this will probably make TV and
00:17:44
they'll get mad with me I don't [ __ ]
00:17:46
know
00:17:46
yeah well I'm surprised you even care
00:17:49
like I feel like you've done I don't
00:17:50
you've done more for Tourette's in the
00:17:52
last few years than what anyone else has
00:17:53
I don't give a [ __ ] that's why whenever
00:17:55
I'm talking I always praise certain
00:17:57
associations like Australia and the UK
00:18:00
The Tourette's Association of Australia
00:18:02
are amazing and what the UK and American
00:18:04
ones are doing are [ __ ] phenomenon
00:18:05
like Australia is the Leading Edge for
00:18:07
Tourette's trying to find a cure or
00:18:09
something to do with it like drilling
00:18:10
into your brain shocking certain parts
00:18:12
of it to see yeah crazy stuff right
00:18:14
costs a lot of money though it's like 85
00:18:16
Grand to do that and I don't have that
00:18:17
sort of money but in in England they've
00:18:19
got um they've developed uh people in
00:18:22
the mirror um sorry you can cut that bit
00:18:24
out people in England have developed a
00:18:26
certain thing a watch
00:18:28
yeah I was gonna I was going to bring
00:18:30
this up I saw your interview for yours
00:18:32
your podcast with Lewis Capaldi and um
00:18:35
he talked about this wristwatch yeah bro
00:18:37
and so it gives you like a little shock
00:18:39
he described it like a tattoo needle it
00:18:40
is over here
00:18:45
how does that work because the Tech's
00:18:47
already out well you
00:18:49
um or it might just I wouldn't know I
00:18:51
didn't I didn't get time it might just
00:18:52
shock you every now and then it takes
00:18:53
your mind off the tick okay takes your
00:18:55
brain which you don't know is doing it
00:18:56
off it back onto another certain thing
00:18:58
right pretty cool right because it's not
00:19:00
going to hurt you is that but it's going
00:19:01
to be like oh [ __ ] it's there that was
00:19:03
your mother so
00:19:06
um
00:19:07
so it's when do the ticks clear up is it
00:19:10
like when you're nervous or anxious or
00:19:11
stressed or tired or anything
00:19:13
yeah it could be when I'm tired could be
00:19:15
when I'm halfway through having sex with
00:19:17
my muscles I don't [ __ ] know anything
00:19:19
can happen it could be when I'm just
00:19:20
chilling watching an episode on Netflix
00:19:21
anything it's any time anywhere any
00:19:24
place it doesn't really have a
00:19:26
certain thing that goes by tourett's
00:19:28
threats if I'm going to yell it inward
00:19:29
it's going to happen kind of [ __ ] so so
00:19:31
it's like what's the longest longest
00:19:33
you'd go without having a attack I
00:19:35
wouldn't know like an hour two hours
00:19:37
eight hours when I'm sleeping right
00:19:38
really yeah I don't I must say I she
00:19:42
sits there I step through my sleep but I
00:19:44
don't think I do
00:19:46
yeah nah she says no you don't like [ __ ]
00:19:49
off no I don't know I know I [ __ ] do
00:19:51
not sorry I'm sure some of these
00:19:52
questions are really dumb but they're
00:19:53
coming out of places I used to work with
00:19:56
a guy that was a um he had a really bad
00:19:57
stutter aha [ __ ] sorry
00:20:01
no the the Intriguing thing was um when
00:20:04
he when he was drinking I suppose it
00:20:06
loosened him up and at the started in a
00:20:07
way and also when he was when he was
00:20:09
with us um when he was with his wife he
00:20:11
didn't stutter either wow so it was like
00:20:12
a nervous thing so I I sort of I guess
00:20:14
wondered with tourettes if like when
00:20:16
it's just you and live at home together
00:20:18
now gee I'm still telling you to sit on
00:20:20
my face 200 200 [ __ ] times a day mate
00:20:23
she loves it it's funny yeah we'll get
00:20:25
into that because she um I read a few
00:20:27
interviews that you know you've done
00:20:28
with her yesterday and uh she seems
00:20:30
remarkable she's amazing Sheila bro
00:20:32
you'd love you'd love her man you'd love
00:20:34
her presence she's just uh she's always
00:20:35
smiling she's a real shy girl when you
00:20:37
get to know her first but apart from the
00:20:38
a lot she's FaceTiming me right now
00:20:40
should we answer it yeah you can get
00:20:41
that just for shits and gigs
00:20:45
she just called me and I missed him
00:20:50
oh you're on a walker
00:20:56
how are you sit on my face yeah [ __ ] you
00:20:58
you say it
00:21:01
um no [ __ ] I just want to see if you're
00:21:02
good
00:21:04
notified I was just looking out on see
00:21:07
what you were I thought you were on your
00:21:08
way home but it's all good all right
00:21:09
I'll love you I'll love you and leave
00:21:10
you I'll message you when I leave
00:21:13
okay bye-bye have you guys got the
00:21:14
location thing on your phone so yeah
00:21:16
yeah not that not that she needs to know
00:21:18
where I am she could probably name my
00:21:19
day every single day of what I'm doing
00:21:21
yeah off the top of her head like I'm a
00:21:23
pretty pretty easy going dude I'm here
00:21:25
nor there you know I mean I'm doing my
00:21:28
thing but yeah yeah so yeah so I'm
00:21:30
jumping I wanted to go and sort of
00:21:31
sequence but I'm jumping over the place
00:21:32
here
00:21:33
that's what I do every single day and
00:21:35
it's ADHD baby I I do yeah except I'm
00:21:38
way older than you I'm 50. I reckon oh
00:21:40
[ __ ] sorry sorry I reckon um I mean was
00:21:43
that attack or was that just
00:21:44
disrespectful holy [ __ ] brother
00:21:47
holy [ __ ] I I reckon I've got ADHD or
00:21:50
I'm definitely on the Spectrum somewhere
00:21:52
but it was just never diagnosed in my
00:21:53
age and to be honest I don't know if a
00:21:54
diagnosis would make any difference
00:21:55
anyway but um
00:21:58
yeah I wonder ask about live
00:22:01
um so you you proposed her in Fiji we'll
00:22:03
get to this but in the lead up to the
00:22:05
proposal you kept um like with the
00:22:07
Tourette's like dropping hats yeah I'd
00:22:09
I'd like you're blowing your own
00:22:10
surprise pretty much yeah which I didn't
00:22:12
want to do but [ __ ] it pissing me off
00:22:15
because there was one stage the day
00:22:17
before we went there
00:22:19
we're at the Hilton in Fiji out on the
00:22:22
on the front there at a bar GPS pissed
00:22:25
too bro if you ever [ __ ] go there
00:22:26
good too good deals it's like [ __ ]
00:22:28
five dollars for a cocktail anyway we're
00:22:30
out on the bar I wasn't even happy how I
00:22:31
can't well in the bar we're [ __ ]
00:22:34
chilling there anyway we're all sitting
00:22:36
there and everyone's kind of chatting
00:22:37
away I'm like [ __ ] Nick should be
00:22:39
wanting a ring hey [ __ ] just jokingly
00:22:41
because we always take the first we
00:22:42
always take the person she always finds
00:22:43
it funny hey you'll be wanting a [ __ ]
00:22:45
ring next there you go and she goes not
00:22:48
my mate's brother
00:22:49
I'm like lights and up you [ __ ]
00:22:51
lights are not bro come on I don't have
00:22:53
enough money for that [ __ ] Jesus I just
00:22:55
paid for all our flights here jokingly
00:22:57
yeah so that was like yeah but that was
00:22:59
the tick right next to me wanting a
00:23:01
[ __ ] ring hey [ __ ] that was the tick
00:23:03
so then then after you say that are you
00:23:05
like in your own internal voice like
00:23:06
[ __ ] you you're blowing it you're
00:23:08
playing I played it off right
00:23:10
I guess being a bit of a comedian myself
00:23:12
and playing [ __ ] off and she she always
00:23:15
says to me you're really hard to read
00:23:16
I'm like well I'm going to keep you
00:23:18
guessing so I kind of just played it off
00:23:20
and she has none the wiser and it came
00:23:21
to the day to happen but if it's not
00:23:24
that you ever would but if you ever
00:23:25
cheated on her like is there a chance
00:23:27
that it oh you could you could out
00:23:28
yourself with the Tourette's yes but I
00:23:31
would never do that
00:23:32
I couldn't I couldn't cheat I don't want
00:23:35
uh just just figuratively or or you know
00:23:38
hypothetically I couldn't do it uh
00:23:41
number one because I love her she's the
00:23:43
bomb diggity and number two I'll yell it
00:23:45
I've cheated on you that's actually one
00:23:46
of my texts when we're out in public
00:23:48
like it's something that I'm petrified
00:23:50
of so I would never do that if I ever
00:23:52
put myself in a situation that I'm like
00:23:54
oh I shouldn't be in this oh I'm gonna
00:23:56
sit back from this I'll just say oh nah
00:23:57
not for me bro I'll step away yeah
00:23:59
happens every weekend in town people
00:24:01
always approach you
00:24:03
and you always get hit on in those sorts
00:24:05
of ways but I'm like oh nice to meet you
00:24:07
high five or first bump I usually I
00:24:09
don't usually hug people I don't know
00:24:10
I'll usually
00:24:11
fist bump them so I like to keep myself
00:24:13
away from that sort of stuff and it
00:24:15
keeps me sane keeps me thinking uh
00:24:17
non-intrusive thoughts I don't want to
00:24:19
think that sort of stuff so yeah yeah
00:24:20
that's a really cool question bro no
00:24:22
[ __ ] I know it was a bit of a out the
00:24:24
gate one but yeah I keep back to myself
00:24:26
and if I know I'm going to be in a
00:24:27
situation and there might be 25 hot
00:24:29
women around
00:24:31
um no I'm not going there now I'm gonna
00:24:32
I'm gonna go the other way and go have a
00:24:34
beer or I cut all down at the bar with
00:24:36
the bro yeah um trying to avoid
00:24:38
situations it's cool I don't want to put
00:24:40
myself in a situation where I'm going to
00:24:41
get myself in hot water and and I know
00:24:44
I'm not going to do anything but I just
00:24:45
don't want other people
00:24:47
so I've cheated on girlfriends in the
00:24:49
past you know how did that make you feel
00:24:51
after you've done it well well [ __ ] you
00:24:54
feel terrible afterwards you're just
00:24:56
consumed with guilt and shame
00:24:58
um at least you're honest about it but I
00:24:59
I look at it now and I think it came
00:25:01
from a place of um like uh needing
00:25:03
validation by by being wanted by people
00:25:06
and then afterwards you just feel empty
00:25:07
but now now it's like I I'm exactly the
00:25:10
same as you'll never put myself in a
00:25:11
situation where my conduct can could be
00:25:14
called into question yeah just [ __ ]
00:25:16
man up if you want to [ __ ] if you
00:25:18
want to go and Chase that tail you can't
00:25:20
have your cake and eat it too just go
00:25:22
and look hey look I can't do this I've
00:25:23
got to be honest with you this is this
00:25:25
if they don't like it that's their
00:25:26
problem you're doing what you feel is
00:25:27
right and move on and Chase what you
00:25:29
feel is right I can tell you right now
00:25:30
leaving what you probably had was
00:25:33
probably a stupid thing to do [ __ ] so
00:25:34
it was a bad tick you'd probably find
00:25:36
yourself you just go [ __ ] what'll I
00:25:38
[ __ ] myself up that much yeah yeah
00:25:40
you let yourself down and you're letting
00:25:42
another person down as well it's just
00:25:43
not a cool thing to do yeah um but yeah
00:25:46
but it's it's it does have to be hard
00:25:48
for you to have that discipline because
00:25:49
it's like you've you you so how old were
00:25:52
you when you became famous
00:25:53
four years ago four years yeah I blew up
00:25:57
really fast I like to call myself an
00:25:58
overnight celebrity yeah like and people
00:26:00
are like you call yourself a celebrity
00:26:02
come walk on the street come come walk
00:26:04
on the Main Street of um Auckland Queen
00:26:07
Street with me for 10 minutes
00:26:09
it's just non-stop non-stop non-stop
00:26:11
non-stop Tom bomb boom boom boom follow
00:26:15
after photo people after people coming
00:26:16
up saying hello I want to shake your
00:26:17
hand wanted to fist them up you it's
00:26:19
just never ending
00:26:25
a couple of weeks ago and he's [ __ ]
00:26:28
huge nobody he talked about how he used
00:26:31
to be in people yeah people pleaser yeah
00:26:33
and and now he's not so now he's like
00:26:35
I'll put off a bad Vibe if I'm out for
00:26:37
dinner I'll put on I'll put on a dog
00:26:39
with me face yep oh I'll [ __ ] [ __ ] oh
00:26:42
I mean we follow each other on Instagram
00:26:44
he's the bomb we don't talk that much
00:26:46
but in passing we'll say hello to each
00:26:48
other and we know each other but um I do
00:26:50
the exact same thing if I'm out in
00:26:52
public and I'm with my misses I'll be
00:26:54
like I'll be like ah I'll put my hoodie
00:26:57
on bro and I won't make eye contact if
00:26:59
you want to come and say hello do it
00:27:00
good on you for [ __ ] Manning up and
00:27:03
saying you know what [ __ ] I'm just
00:27:05
gonna go ask him for a photo I'm gonna
00:27:06
I'm gonna bust my balls here and I'm
00:27:08
gonna go for it and I respect people for
00:27:10
doing that because I don't always put
00:27:11
off a happy Vibe like if I'm out and I'm
00:27:14
about making people going and I can hear
00:27:16
people going oh it's Uncle text bro I
00:27:18
won't I won't acknowledge it I'll wait
00:27:20
for him to come up and say hello because
00:27:22
otherwise if I have to acknowledge it
00:27:23
I'm going to stand around for hours of
00:27:25
my day
00:27:29
[Music]
00:27:37
I tend to let them do the move yeah they
00:27:40
make the move [ __ ] mean I'm proud of
00:27:42
you good on you come say Kyoto I'll talk
00:27:44
to you yeah but it's never just one is
00:27:46
it like that it's just one but then
00:27:48
another person goes oh okay the
00:27:49
floodgates are open yeah and then
00:27:51
everyone wants the first photos taken
00:27:53
you'll have most people come running
00:27:54
them then yeah it's it's pretty much
00:27:55
like that and it's not enough
00:27:57
exaggeration you can ask my misses any
00:27:58
of our friends Jimmy Jackson's much the
00:28:01
same Jimmy gets bombarded every day we
00:28:03
go out for a pie and we're taking 50
00:28:05
photos
00:28:06
of it you and Jimmy Jackson together at
00:28:09
the same time he's a pair of New
00:28:10
Zealand's biggest social media
00:28:11
Superstars he's a funny [ __ ] dude bro
00:28:13
yeah he is but yeah I I do you do have
00:28:16
to humble yourself in the moment like
00:28:17
I'm very grateful for where I am and hey
00:28:19
[ __ ] kiwi celebs baby what else could it
00:28:22
be I mean I don't know what else you'd
00:28:24
call it all right okay so we'll go back
00:28:25
so um you're at Secondary School
00:28:28
um apart from the episode when you were
00:28:30
nine we felt suicidal you met as your
00:28:32
mental health like through those teenage
00:28:34
years in the puberty years yeah bro
00:28:36
honestly man
00:28:39
um
00:28:39
I used to get out as much as I could and
00:28:41
go hard with everything I could and yes
00:28:43
that's the inappropriate things as well
00:28:47
um go home every weekend and enjoy my
00:28:50
time with my mates and have beers and
00:28:52
drink as much as I could doing teenage
00:28:54
things you know as they do not always
00:28:55
the right things but yeah bro I went out
00:28:58
there night thoroughly enjoyed it yeah
00:29:00
and and then so you leave school is that
00:29:02
when you start a week at countdown yeah
00:29:04
bro I was working a countdown since the
00:29:05
age of 14. okay I left 10 years later
00:29:07
after that I got my 10-year badge yeah I
00:29:10
saw that on um uh the TV show living
00:29:12
with Tourette's did you watch that yeah
00:29:14
y'all watch that holy [ __ ] you've done a
00:29:16
lot of research on me yeah so you're in
00:29:17
like The Butchery department and I was
00:29:19
there for 10 years babe okay so you got
00:29:21
the job when you were 14. what was your
00:29:22
job like was out the back like away from
00:29:26
customers or no I was on checkout yeah
00:29:28
with Tourette's that's that is can we
00:29:30
just give countdown some props for that
00:29:32
I always do always give countdown and
00:29:34
Woolworths and Progressive props for
00:29:35
having me and I always do everywhere
00:29:37
everywhere I go bro I love those guys I
00:29:39
love what they did for me some of my
00:29:40
bosses were questionable and I couldn't
00:29:42
stand them but most of them bro much 75
00:29:44
of the people I worked with were [ __ ]
00:29:46
amazing well actually amazing people
00:29:48
amazing company bro they did a lot for
00:29:49
me they supported me and I praised them
00:29:51
for doing that so Shadow countdown
00:29:53
because I mean it'd be it'd be easy to
00:29:56
ever it'd be easy for them to like um
00:29:58
think oh here's the sport in your kid
00:30:00
with Tourette's let's give them a token
00:30:01
token job out the back away from the
00:30:04
customers that was before that [ __ ] was
00:30:06
like accepted like you're now now
00:30:07
inclusivity yeah all those [ __ ]
00:30:09
companies [ __ ] back in the day
00:30:11
they're like no get my job sweet me I'd
00:30:13
love to would love to have them on
00:30:14
checkouts and I just mastered my texts
00:30:17
I could be like oh man oh how's your day
00:30:20
been you know what I mean
00:30:24
I never really swore on I bite my tongue
00:30:27
I managed a way to control it sort of
00:30:29
[ __ ] but I'd end up bleeding tongues in
00:30:30
there but I don't mind doing that once a
00:30:32
day it's fine right but did they um
00:30:34
you'd never badge like saying I have to
00:30:36
read it no no no [ __ ] that I don't want
00:30:39
to be [ __ ] people asking questions
00:30:40
about that yeah instead of make money
00:30:42
because and talk to people and I can
00:30:43
tell my mother
00:30:45
I can stand there bro and talk and talk
00:30:47
and talk and talk and talk I'm gonna
00:30:49
talk anyone back in that day bro I was
00:30:51
going hard and I loved it I loved being
00:30:53
able to talk to people for seven hours
00:30:54
and that's all you do and then you get
00:30:56
to relationships with people getting to
00:30:58
know them and friendships and then yeah
00:31:00
you see them on the street like oh man I
00:31:02
often do you see people on the street
00:31:03
and they're like oh Leighton
00:31:05
this is before Uncle text man we miss
00:31:07
your Countdown by Reese I love coming to
00:31:09
you just for the Yarns and I'd have that
00:31:11
100 times a week when I left I felt real
00:31:14
sad but hey
00:31:15
it's not forever yeah Supermarket if
00:31:18
you're in a supermarket now and you feel
00:31:19
like you have some sort of drive go
00:31:21
[ __ ] do it trust me not saying
00:31:22
supermarkets appeared I'm just saying
00:31:23
any like Fast job like that please
00:31:26
follow your dreams please
00:31:29
although you know like somewhere like
00:31:31
countdown if you stayed there you could
00:31:32
have worked your way through the ramps
00:31:35
yes I could have probably done that but
00:31:48
I just felt like I wanted to get out of
00:31:50
my comfort zone and being too
00:31:52
comfortable I felt like I was way too
00:31:53
comfortable like every week I get out of
00:31:55
my comfort zone this is me getting out
00:31:56
of my comfort zone now even though I do
00:31:58
podcasting for a living how's this
00:32:00
getting out of your comfort zone oh I
00:32:01
know you personally but this is people
00:32:03
asking me questions I can't control the
00:32:05
the the flow of things happening that's
00:32:07
what I do every Monday with my podcast
00:32:09
going live on Wednesday so I'm just like
00:32:11
whenever I do that with you I feel like
00:32:13
this is this is hard for me but I love
00:32:15
it because it's putting me in a awkward
00:32:17
predicamente and I liked it so put me on
00:32:20
check remember I love that sort of [ __ ]
00:32:21
bro well I don't want it to be awkward
00:32:23
though but you know what I mean yeah
00:32:24
yeah I'm enjoying peeling back some of
00:32:26
the some of the layers because it's like
00:32:27
we you know we see you for you have 45
00:32:29
seconds 60 seconds on Tick Tock everyone
00:32:31
loves an onion yeah yeah yeah and there
00:32:34
is a lot to you so um did the tourists
00:32:36
ever get you in trouble at countdown
00:32:38
like did anyone ever complain to upper
00:32:40
management about twice yeah only twice
00:32:45
yeah bro only twice brother
00:32:47
um my first time was it countdown Bridge
00:32:49
Street well then I know of [ __ ] people
00:32:52
could have probably got mad with me this
00:32:54
guy's a [ __ ] [ __ ] no I'm not I'm the
00:32:55
man
00:32:56
um like people could have got whole hell
00:32:58
upset with me but nah most of the time
00:33:00
bro I
00:33:01
was only the once or twice you know once
00:33:04
was uh I accidentally called a uh person
00:33:07
of color actually I won't say that I
00:33:09
wouldn't say that sounds racist I
00:33:10
accidentally called a black lady uh uh
00:33:12
Inward and I said I had Tourette's three
00:33:15
times I was like oh sorry about that
00:33:16
black lady haha inward [ __ ] [ __ ]
00:33:19
you have to block that one so it was a
00:33:20
bad one that's why I said to him she got
00:33:23
really upset about that fair enough fair
00:33:25
enough you're allowed to get upset 100
00:33:29
agree with that but after I've explained
00:33:31
three times what Tourette says
00:33:33
I think you need you need a shush
00:33:35
and accept the fact that he couldn't
00:33:37
help that not be a dick about it so yeah
00:33:40
she went and complained and then my boss
00:33:41
said the same thing look like honestly
00:33:44
he's got to read did he tell you that
00:33:46
yeah she's like yeah if he did and I
00:33:47
remember three times and she got so
00:33:48
upset they sent me home though because
00:33:50
she made a massive deal out of it fair
00:33:52
enough you're allowed to be upset but
00:33:53
after I've explained it you need to get
00:33:55
the [ __ ] over there
00:33:56
in the most politest way bro this is
00:33:58
making me upset hearing don't be upset
00:34:00
smile and laugh because it's it's funny
00:34:02
because like I uh every single day bro
00:34:05
you got people that just don't
00:34:06
understand and then you give them the
00:34:08
time of day to want to understand and
00:34:10
they don't care
00:34:11
but that's your ignorance not mine and I
00:34:13
don't care because I went home I still
00:34:14
got paid I still got paid out I actually
00:34:17
got told I didn't have to come the next
00:34:18
day are you feeling a bit stressed on
00:34:19
there I'm like yeah I'd love a day off
00:34:21
actually is that all right and they're
00:34:22
like they're like yeah bro you can have
00:34:24
a day off if you want sorry about all
00:34:25
that [ __ ] and then I didn't get
00:34:27
fired never did that was about seven
00:34:28
years of working yeah as well I think um
00:34:31
yeah I I think what makes me uh pretty
00:34:33
cool like slightly emotional about
00:34:35
hearing that story it's just like the
00:34:37
the support from countdown I think
00:34:39
that's really [ __ ] cool humbling
00:34:41
really beautiful it would have been so
00:34:43
much so much easier for them to go oh
00:34:45
well let's just hire someone that
00:34:46
doesn't have to rent exactly you know
00:34:48
what I mean yep we'll hide you out the
00:34:49
back where you where you're crashing
00:34:50
boxes I did do I did do produce and I
00:34:53
did do all crashing boxes used to love
00:34:54
that I was a little anal [ __ ] about that
00:34:56
[ __ ] [ __ ] but my OCD but yeah man hey
00:34:59
[ __ ] no I loved it loved I always worked
00:35:01
on checkouts every day if I needed help
00:35:02
I'd run out there swear to few people
00:35:04
laugh and and love and move on and there
00:35:06
was another time I'll tell you the other
00:35:07
time before we move on real quickly it
00:35:09
was an old [ __ ] there's [ __ ] an old
00:35:11
ass Sheila racist skill this Pacquiao
00:35:14
girl comes in and she's like
00:35:16
really good start yeah she was like oh
00:35:18
[ __ ] um oh killed her oh how's your
00:35:21
day been and she goes that word my
00:35:24
grandparents will be rolling in their
00:35:25
Grays if they heard that being said
00:35:27
around now and I'm like
00:35:28
I'm just gonna bomb this [ __ ] thing
00:35:30
at your head I could help there I'm like
00:35:32
I honestly want to Chuck this at your
00:35:33
head like
00:35:36
it was a bloody baked beans what do you
00:35:39
speak beans just to open interpreter
00:35:41
that one got me fired because I could
00:35:43
have helped that but I was I said to
00:35:45
[ __ ] you [ __ ] she goes what did you say
00:35:48
I'm like [ __ ] you and your racism and
00:35:50
get the [ __ ] out I said that too I don't
00:35:51
give a [ __ ] who you are and if I lose my
00:35:53
job right now but I'll tell you one
00:35:55
thing in the world I can't deal with is
00:35:56
racist people that can help that sort of
00:35:58
[ __ ] so [ __ ] off [ __ ] in front of 200
00:36:01
people and they all said no good on you
00:36:03
so there was an attack that's just you
00:36:05
speaking from the Hut yeah bro that was
00:36:06
me telling her to [ __ ] off and she's
00:36:07
like don't you dare say that to me I'm
00:36:10
paying for my groceries tonight I just I
00:36:12
should react to you I'm like nah you can
00:36:13
get out oh sorry she's like what about
00:36:16
the groceries number we'll put it away
00:36:17
don't worry about that I'll buy your
00:36:18
meat later because [ __ ] off you [ __ ]
00:36:20
[ __ ] and she's like you can't say that
00:36:22
to me I'm like fine go get me five go on
00:36:24
I couldn't give a [ __ ] I'd rather stand
00:36:26
up for what I believe and then have to
00:36:27
deal with people like you you Pig and
00:36:29
she never came back I never saw her
00:36:30
again she wrote in so many letters of
00:36:32
complaining and yeah she's just a piece
00:36:35
of [ __ ] yeah wow oh [ __ ] you bro you do
00:36:39
the same as well if you had someone
00:36:40
being a racist big for no reason yeah
00:36:42
yeah stand up for what's right anyone
00:36:43
should if you didn't you're just as bad
00:36:46
yeah I I've never been in that situation
00:36:48
but I I'd like to think I would wait do
00:36:50
you ever have situations where you're in
00:36:52
the shower and you're like [ __ ] I'd say
00:36:53
this when you're watching yourself I
00:36:54
always do that when you're thinking
00:36:55
about situations like scenarios and
00:36:58
you're like washing your hands and your
00:36:59
feet all your legs you're like [ __ ] bro
00:37:01
I would say that to someone [ __ ] that
00:37:03
person you never know until you until
00:37:04
you're in the heat of that moment how
00:37:06
you're going to respond but you hope you
00:37:07
respond for the right way yeah oh bro we
00:37:09
had so many altercations daily at
00:37:11
supermarkets you've got to remember you
00:37:12
got you got the cousins down the road
00:37:14
that the road that that are coming in
00:37:16
and stealing and they do it all the time
00:37:17
and you're like to them hey don't don't
00:37:19
you buddy come in here so you do get
00:37:21
used to the the confrontation quite
00:37:24
often and I I Grew From that
00:37:25
confrontation I've got some funny
00:37:27
stories for you which I won't say on
00:37:28
here but um because why not okay you're
00:37:31
right there was a there was this lady
00:37:33
who came in bro and she was this white
00:37:35
lady it's not any maltes that still
00:37:37
remember that it's everyone any any
00:37:38
background this lady pops in and she's
00:37:41
stealing mascaras she had bare feet on
00:37:43
she rocking around [ __ ] with her
00:37:45
daughter who only has Captain gets in
00:37:47
their thing and they're stealing
00:37:48
mascaras I went around the corner I'm
00:37:50
like okay
00:37:51
you're going to give me all back that
00:37:53
mascara you've taken and you're going to
00:37:55
go and she's like I haven't stolen any
00:37:57
of my
00:37:58
I didn't say you did but I'd love it
00:38:00
back though you know just don't be a
00:38:02
dick give it back like honestly and my
00:38:04
boss is next to me she's laughing
00:38:06
because I always used to make this a
00:38:07
game
00:38:08
they should go
00:38:09
can we just have the bloody mascaras
00:38:11
back and then you guys can just leave
00:38:12
we're not going to do anything about it
00:38:13
and we'll just keep the mascaras and you
00:38:15
can bug her off she gives us back one of
00:38:17
the 10 she took and bro it [ __ ] that
00:38:20
sort of [ __ ] pissed me off now yep not
00:38:22
my business and I'm not losing money and
00:38:24
I don't like I said you used to just
00:38:26
make it a gay man this even though it
00:38:28
wasn't my business I still respected the
00:38:29
workplace right so I went to oh [ __ ] you
00:38:32
out why don't you just steal some shoes
00:38:34
you [ __ ] egg
00:38:35
look at your shoes there ugly shoes bro
00:38:38
and and that was one thing that would
00:38:40
piss people off was when they're in
00:38:41
there and they're a bit bummed out that
00:38:42
you've caught them I'm like
00:38:44
I'm just gonna be a [ __ ] about it why
00:38:45
don't you go and steal yourself a jersey
00:38:47
maybe you'll be a bit warmer instead of
00:38:48
selling
00:38:50
something pity like a mascara like I'd
00:38:52
be like I'd I probably shouldn't have
00:38:54
lowered myself to that level but I was a
00:38:56
hot head 16 year old loving life and
00:38:58
yeah I couldn't give a [ __ ] and it was
00:39:00
funny bro people used to get so offended
00:39:01
what did you just say steal your shoes
00:39:03
bro maybe instead of stealing mascara
00:39:04
that might actually help you if you get
00:39:06
Soul offended and I you'd never see them
00:39:08
again you'd never see them they wouldn't
00:39:09
know you they wouldn't come back in
00:39:11
they've got no right to be offended
00:39:13
you're in here stealing [ __ ] you want to
00:39:14
get offended by what that I've just
00:39:15
bumped you out even more
00:39:17
ugly you are ugly bro but I'll always
00:39:19
pick my words really well like you can't
00:39:21
walk up to someone even though I prop
00:39:23
you can't walk up to someone and go
00:39:25
you're a whorey is [ __ ] you can't say
00:39:26
that you just [ __ ] get them at their
00:39:28
own game like steal some shoes next time
00:39:30
mate might be to yourself bro if you
00:39:33
were stealing something from there yeah
00:39:35
you don't hit yeah but then you'd also
00:39:37
you've got whanau that are coming in and
00:39:39
stealing bread
00:39:42
[ __ ] like that yeah like if they're
00:39:44
stealing like two loaves of bread out
00:39:45
and you know they are I'll be just like
00:39:47
hey next time
00:39:49
I'm not gonna tell anyone but don't
00:39:50
[ __ ] steal their bread eh please just
00:39:53
honestly I can see you're taking it she
00:39:54
said I'm sorry I'm at Discovery I don't
00:39:56
care bro you're out the door I don't
00:39:57
give a [ __ ]
00:39:58
yeah just go cousin there but I'm so
00:40:00
sorry later no no you're right bro see
00:40:02
you later and then come back in bro and
00:40:04
and
00:40:05
I got a lot of not just me other people
00:40:08
did that as well I don't know if anyone
00:40:10
did that back then by other people but I
00:40:12
know I did it doesn't matter who you are
00:40:13
what background What ethnicity if you
00:40:15
were stealing breed yeah you need it oh
00:40:18
man yes go feed your kids out yeah well
00:40:20
I I did some public speaking a couple of
00:40:22
weeks ago for um this service station
00:40:24
chain it's heartier like that's oh bro
00:40:26
so there's some service station up near
00:40:28
dargaville which is um you know far
00:40:30
north sort of ways
00:40:31
um it's been there in years but low
00:40:33
socio-economic area and this um this um
00:40:35
this Maori couple that owned a super
00:40:36
station up there they said uh customers
00:40:39
that come in if the Earth card's not
00:40:40
working or they're looking tweaked out
00:40:42
or something they'll often just say to
00:40:43
them do you want 20 bucks or you want
00:40:45
these six you you have the petrol and
00:40:48
and they sell them come you just have it
00:40:50
and come back and pay later sometime if
00:40:51
you're in the area and I said do they do
00:40:53
the people ever come back and they go
00:40:54
sometimes they do yeah but they say but
00:40:56
you know what they never do they never
00:40:58
come back with their mates and Rob us or
00:41:00
give us any [ __ ] and I thought it was
00:41:02
just such a nice that's true such a nice
00:41:04
way look at it it was like it wasn't
00:41:07
coming from a place of self-preservation
00:41:08
that they don't want to be robbed just
00:41:09
the the guy he was like I just don't
00:41:11
want to make anyone feel stink over it
00:41:13
yeah because they're going through tough
00:41:14
times
00:41:15
[ __ ] I remember bro yes
00:41:19
that those followers are on and I
00:41:22
remember one day bro working at
00:41:23
countdown my disability always had me on
00:41:25
good games with people bro that's
00:41:26
probably why I got a lot of Praise at
00:41:28
the place but you know one day wrote
00:41:30
this is Fuller he came in and he was
00:41:32
stealing chicken
00:41:34
a one one one bit of chicken and he'd
00:41:36
taken out of the wrapper in Portland is
00:41:38
down his pants that's how desperate he
00:41:39
was now funny because it leaked all down
00:41:41
his pants and I gave him a [ __ ] for me
00:41:43
chicken juice on your dick yeah [ __ ]
00:41:46
old chicken chicken Lahore he was
00:41:48
walking out and I'm like hey
00:41:50
I know you're still on that chicken and
00:41:53
I don't want a backbone but next time
00:41:55
cuz bring a bear gear so it doesn't leak
00:41:58
down your leg he's like [ __ ] you oh I'm
00:42:00
like oh cuz I'm letting you get away
00:42:02
with fifth right now and stealing at
00:42:04
least you could do is just have a crack
00:42:05
and laugh he's like he's like oh sorry
00:42:08
man I shouldn't have stolen this chicken
00:42:10
I'm just you know need it for my kids
00:42:12
I'm like well [ __ ] speak it's me and
00:42:13
[ __ ] off I'll [ __ ] [ __ ] but you're
00:42:15
very very sad and you see it all the
00:42:17
time yeah yeah and most of my bosses if
00:42:20
they saw them stealing bread or like
00:42:21
muesli bars or chips just let them hear
00:42:25
but who cares yeah and don't tell anyone
00:42:27
let it be bro write it off you're not
00:42:28
we're not losing any money that's a that
00:42:30
[ __ ] company makes billions yeah so
00:42:33
much my store was a million dollar store
00:42:35
a week go figure and they have 70 plus
00:42:37
[ __ ] stores across the country so
00:42:39
they're doing the money yeah they are
00:42:41
they don't know and it was it was that
00:42:42
countdown that you met live yeah yeah
00:42:45
are you older than her or same age is
00:42:48
she older than you oh no she's just
00:42:49
turned 26 I'm 30 this year 26 and 30.
00:42:52
Okay so
00:42:55
you were in the same Department
00:42:57
you remember the first day do you
00:42:59
remember the first day you met or the
00:43:01
first time yeah bro I remember when I
00:43:02
first met it I fell in love with it from
00:43:03
the get-go she's an amazing girl
00:43:05
um yeah she was um she has my checkout
00:43:07
supervisor she was my boss
00:43:10
enough said
00:43:13
I don't sleep with the [ __ ] ages
00:43:15
because she friendzoned me the bloody
00:43:16
egg so
00:43:18
yeah she's like there yeah so so you
00:43:20
meet and so you just become friends yes
00:43:22
yeah were you spading hard like you no
00:43:25
no no I just I didn't graph that hard I
00:43:28
just kind of let it be we were you just
00:43:30
sort of at PACE with the fact that yeah
00:43:33
I was at peace because she was like oh
00:43:35
we work together hey puppy
00:43:39
good looking boy aren't you um she I was
00:43:41
at peace I was kind of happy with her
00:43:42
just being friends and I was stoked ass
00:43:44
bro [ __ ] I couldn't give a [ __ ] I was
00:43:47
just happy that she was happy and then
00:43:48
what happened next so we went to oh
00:43:51
take it back 2018 17. I was like two one
00:43:55
night do you want to come to a sticky
00:43:56
fingers concert in
00:43:59
um papamoa they're on uh Papa more at
00:44:01
that
00:44:02
just down the road from Bay dreams where
00:44:03
it's held is like a pub there
00:44:05
you know a few other bands playing and I
00:44:06
was like she said I don't know who they
00:44:08
are I'm like oh well listen to the music
00:44:09
on the way over would you like to come
00:44:11
I'm shooting the gig this is when I was
00:44:12
big into my shooting back then
00:44:14
um camera shooting not gun shooting by
00:44:16
the way and then we were rocking them
00:44:18
and she's we're all backstage Schmidt
00:44:20
the whole band twice like hung out with
00:44:23
them all she hang out with dizza and
00:44:24
everyone in the band and oh oh crabs and
00:44:27
all that we're all chilling and you know
00:44:29
would you like a photo she's like oh no
00:44:31
it's all good it's your great state to
00:44:33
this day by the way I always give a [ __ ]
00:44:34
about that when we talk about it and
00:44:36
then
00:44:37
when she drove home because I'd had one
00:44:38
or two beers and she's like I'll just
00:44:40
drive it's way easier and I'd been
00:44:41
working so I was a bit tired and then we
00:44:43
got home and she kissed me and then that
00:44:45
was when it all kind of kicked off yeah
00:44:47
but um after how long how long were you
00:44:49
friends at that point seven months seven
00:44:51
months six seven months okay so you went
00:44:53
deep into the friend zone no oh so she
00:44:56
was just a bit weary of you maybe or
00:44:58
yeah because she'd seen our other
00:45:00
workmates that had done the same as
00:45:03
sleeping with workmates and it always
00:45:05
meant to [ __ ] yeah like most of them did
00:45:06
actually no all of them did we were the
00:45:08
only one that really lasted from
00:45:10
countdown it's been six years now so um
00:45:12
yeah go figure I guess that was a she
00:45:14
was correct in that stat correct in
00:45:16
saying that well with any relationship I
00:45:18
mean when you when you started there's a
00:45:20
high chart high probability it's going
00:45:21
to end yeah yeah
00:45:23
um and and um her mum didn't like you
00:45:25
initially oh no you no I'm allowed I was
00:45:28
loud as and she couldn't understand she
00:45:30
couldn't understand the whole Tourette's
00:45:31
thing at the start and fair enough it's
00:45:33
a hard thing to come into especially
00:45:34
when I'm at your house daily and I'm
00:45:35
saying [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] penis Minge [ __ ]
00:45:38
you know what I mean yeah but I I don't
00:45:39
know like we've been talking for 45
00:45:41
minutes minutes
00:45:43
you sort of I don't know it just becomes
00:45:46
warm paper after a while uncomfortable
00:45:48
and it does become wallpaper you just
00:45:50
kind of let it be and let it let it do
00:45:51
its thing and it does become wallpaper
00:45:52
but at the same time I can understand
00:45:54
where she's coming from right I can
00:45:56
understand like who the [ __ ] is in my
00:45:58
house what the hell is going on Olivia
00:46:00
so yeah but but we grew um I got a lot
00:46:03
of time for Olivia's mum
00:46:06
I'll wait because it's loud
00:46:09
damn that's right there
00:46:11
that's all right the mic's pick it up a
00:46:12
little bit but it's not too bad
00:46:15
you want us very easily distracted is
00:46:17
that the um ADHD but also I just know
00:46:19
and and sound I would stop talking and
00:46:22
recontinue because I know what it's like
00:46:24
to cut it's not hard to cut between
00:46:25
things
00:46:26
um right are you aware of a
00:46:27
perfectionist than me
00:46:29
I just know I just know if we were
00:46:31
talking I'd probably stop um I love
00:46:34
Olivia's mom she is phenomenal and I do
00:46:37
get sidetracked that's my ADHD but yeah
00:46:39
men who get along like a house on fire
00:46:41
mate like a crack in a crackhead and a
00:46:44
cracked in mate we just get along and
00:46:46
she's she supports me a lot and I can't
00:46:48
wait for her to be the grandmother to my
00:46:49
children she's she's an amazing woman
00:46:51
bro she's a nurse as well yeah yeah so
00:46:54
Olivia's a nurse yeah and so is her mum
00:46:56
what sort of nursing does Olivia do uh
00:46:58
everything right she's doing private
00:46:59
nursing for six seven months and now but
00:47:01
she's back at waikato at the hospital
00:47:03
yeah and she she does yeah she looks
00:47:05
after you once you've had your Gin and
00:47:07
Juice in your and your surgery done yeah
00:47:09
yeah I had a tumor a number of years ago
00:47:11
that was taken out and uh so I was in
00:47:12
the hospital for a couple of weeks and
00:47:14
you definitely have a new appreciation
00:47:15
the nurses do things yep you know you
00:47:18
they they do everything and then the
00:47:20
doctor comes around once a day looks at
00:47:21
the chart barks some orders and then
00:47:24
[ __ ] off again yeah I um there was one
00:47:26
thing I wanted to ask because I
00:47:27
interviewed David Seymour today on my
00:47:29
podcast on Tech heads and I was like
00:47:32
I didn't get to ask him that so I kind
00:47:34
of forgot about it but I was going to
00:47:36
say what were you because I don't really
00:47:37
care about me oh we're always going to
00:47:39
pay high in Texas you know that [ __ ]
00:47:41
look at our country but one thing that I
00:47:45
um was going to ask him was what can you
00:47:46
do to better nurses bro just nurses like
00:47:49
can you give them more money because
00:47:50
you've got to vote anyone can have our
00:47:52
vote if you can better nurses because I
00:47:54
care about my fiance I care about where
00:47:56
she's going in the future
00:47:57
um because what does she make not enough
00:47:59
yeah yep not enough graduate nurses
00:48:01
should be paid way more than what they
00:48:03
they started yeah what is the starting
00:48:05
salary is that 50k right right that's
00:48:07
not enough both for someone that studied
00:48:08
for [ __ ] five years and is saving and
00:48:11
helping your life come on that's the
00:48:13
same with teachers the people that
00:48:14
actually teach your kids and do stuff
00:48:16
for you as a person doesn't matter if
00:48:17
it's tertiary or secondary or or primary
00:48:20
entrant you know
00:48:22
um
00:48:23
[ __ ] school yeah yeah it's a sad
00:48:26
world but yeah they're not paid enough
00:48:28
bro and I always stand up for nurses
00:48:30
because [ __ ] without them bro would be a
00:48:32
hard [ __ ] world
00:48:33
people that care about people but it's a
00:48:35
hard thing to come by these days trust
00:48:36
me when I say that 100 and it's a it's a
00:48:39
like it's a special person that decides
00:48:40
to become a nurse because you're
00:48:41
definitely not doing it for the [ __ ]
00:48:43
money are you no of course not I've got
00:48:44
a mate who's a dentist and he definitely
00:48:46
did that for the money
00:48:47
he selected Dentistry because you know
00:48:50
he knew it was going to be a high paying
00:48:52
job it has been smart dude we only have
00:48:55
to worry about your mouth yeah Libby has
00:48:57
to worry about your mouth your feet and
00:48:58
your [ __ ] arms and your toes and
00:48:59
everything about you to be able to help
00:49:01
you yeah yeah well that's great and when
00:49:04
so when did when did Layton Clark become
00:49:06
Uncle Tex was that lockdown no 2020
00:49:09
March 18th I remember exactly okay so so
00:49:11
you're working so weird you work at
00:49:13
countdown and you're a videographer at
00:49:14
the same time yeah I quit straight after
00:49:16
that as soon as I started blowing up I
00:49:17
was like I was at 45 000 people
00:49:19
following me I got a manager straight
00:49:21
away and I was like I can't do this
00:49:23
countdown [ __ ] anymore oh no actually I
00:49:25
moved away from countdown I went into
00:49:26
everyone went into filming like weddings
00:49:28
and filming um
00:49:30
I'm sitting like um [ __ ] I work for a
00:49:33
food brand called uh muscle fuel
00:49:36
um ready to eat what's the name of the
00:49:38
company still they're still around now
00:49:39
and um
00:49:41
yeah they they just [ __ ] I do all
00:49:43
their video work and all their photos
00:49:45
and that and build content for them
00:49:46
around their pre-packaged meals yeah
00:49:48
pretty cool way and then yeah so on the
00:49:52
TV show living with Tourette's which I
00:49:53
think is still on neon now
00:49:55
I think so [ __ ] that wouldn't even [ __ ]
00:49:58
it would be on the end it was on Prime
00:49:59
it's on if you just Google it and you're
00:50:01
in New Zealand or Australia and you go
00:50:03
living with Tourette's Prime season
00:50:04
three it should pop up and I should I'll
00:50:07
be like one of the top names at the top
00:50:08
isn't it yeah so so back then you work
00:50:10
at countdown and you work as a
00:50:11
videographer as well there's one job
00:50:13
there's one episode of that where you're
00:50:14
filming a wedding and one of the bridal
00:50:17
party tells you off like oh no no no no
00:50:18
it wasn't here it was the photographer
00:50:21
right she's a she's always a piece of
00:50:23
work that woman she's a [ __ ] [ __ ]
00:50:25
I'll [ __ ] honestly say that I've
00:50:27
never met anyone more rude in my life
00:50:28
that didn't want to understand me that
00:50:30
had no flow for me like I loved working
00:50:32
with photographers they make your day
00:50:34
way better if you know each other or if
00:50:36
you get to know someone and work with
00:50:37
them not against them just I couldn't
00:50:39
film or do anything and probably so much
00:50:41
we had to cut out of the episode because
00:50:42
I went off with it bro I was like oh I'm
00:50:45
not trying to be rude to you fellas but
00:50:46
I'm just going to be real up up front
00:50:48
here but you're the hardest person I've
00:50:49
ever worked with in my life and you're a
00:50:51
[ __ ] like you've given me no time
00:50:53
today to do what I want to do and I've
00:50:55
given you heaps of lists of things I'd
00:50:57
love to do that you could do at the same
00:50:58
time if you let me lead for a bit and
00:51:00
tell you what would be cool you might
00:51:01
learn a bit a bit from me just because
00:51:04
you're an old person like hey
00:51:07
to get respect you've got to give
00:51:09
respect there was no respect there was
00:51:11
no respect that was given so that was
00:51:12
how I like to look at it if you're not
00:51:13
going to respect me I'll never respect
00:51:15
you so it doesn't matter how old you are
00:51:17
like everyone should just respect each
00:51:20
other doesn't matter how old you are or
00:51:21
who you're from you know yeah yeah
00:51:23
completely a bit more kindness but more
00:51:25
compassion yep yep and I loved my film
00:51:26
work and yeah but yeah that was a good
00:51:28
episode yeah so when you were doing that
00:51:30
did you have to did you have to front
00:51:32
foot it with the people you were working
00:51:34
for and say hey they already knew yeah
00:51:36
right people already knew who I was and
00:51:37
my disabilities and the content I'd done
00:51:39
in the past was Word of Mouth off and
00:51:41
everything got out so fast you have one
00:51:43
video that hits 200 000 [ __ ] you've got
00:51:45
50 people in your DMs the next day
00:51:47
wanting wanting wanting their wedding
00:51:48
done at that pop at that price pop so
00:51:51
you're like holy hell this is really
00:51:52
cool yeah so so is that sort of how the
00:51:55
um is that so how Uncle Tech started so
00:51:57
you had the video camera gear you were
00:51:58
doing some videography work yeah so then
00:52:01
it was like a transition yeah yeah I was
00:52:03
just I was just Nifty with the camera
00:52:04
yeah I was just a bit more Nifty with my
00:52:07
editing than with the camera than the
00:52:08
the common Joe that was how I did it it
00:52:10
wasn't any it wasn't [ __ ] like
00:52:13
bloody science or space work it was just
00:52:15
put your time to anything and you get
00:52:16
something back
00:52:17
you know anything can be like that as
00:52:19
well trust me
00:52:21
but
00:52:22
yeah I'm a disabled follower and I can
00:52:24
do that you can do it too like come on
00:52:26
bro yeah you've used your disability as
00:52:28
um as as a way to Showcase it just
00:52:31
showcase it I guess and highlight and um
00:52:33
you know um give an appreciation of um
00:52:36
what it is that you live with on a daily
00:52:37
basis yeah by the way when you Google
00:52:39
your name one of the first things that
00:52:40
comes up is um is he fake yeah
00:52:43
yeah does that piss you off no I don't
00:52:46
care it means people are looking me up
00:52:47
and wanting to know more and it's a win
00:52:49
for me at the end of the day but I mean
00:52:50
we've been sitting here for the last 53
00:52:52
minutes and it's um it looks [ __ ]
00:52:55
uncomfortable
00:52:56
I'm happy I would I wouldn't be here if
00:52:58
I wasn't dumb trust me yeah no I would
00:53:00
have left a bit earlier but yeah all
00:53:02
right I'm happy yes no no no but I mean
00:53:04
it looks uncomfortable isn't you you
00:53:05
don't look uncomfortable but but the
00:53:08
Ritz looks uncomfortable yeah like the
00:53:09
neck thing so for I mean I I'd just be
00:53:12
frustrated if I was you and people were
00:53:14
calling me out for being a [ __ ] fake
00:53:15
yeah no [ __ ] them I don't care they can
00:53:18
think what they want so so what started
00:53:20
first was it like Facebook Instagram or
00:53:21
Tech talk uh it was Instagram I think
00:53:23
Instagram Instagram was what took off
00:53:25
for me and then I just built a Facebook
00:53:26
page and well I have a huge Facebook
00:53:28
page I didn't realize I'd never look at
00:53:30
it I looked the other day and it's at
00:53:32
300 000 followers 340 000. I was like
00:53:35
holy [ __ ] [ __ ] I heard somebody as it
00:53:38
blow up over [ __ ] and something that's
00:53:39
had like 20 million and something that's
00:53:41
had like 5 million and a couple others
00:53:43
that have had like a couple hundred
00:53:44
thousand but bro there's heaps of people
00:53:46
coming through yeah so you so you start
00:53:48
doing that does it just chug along
00:53:50
slowly for a while like is there a
00:53:51
moment where you have a video that
00:53:52
breaks through yeah
00:53:55
yeah I had one of the videos that was
00:53:57
that was really big it was the I'm going
00:54:00
to know one with Olivia uh part one and
00:54:03
then the um
00:54:05
oh I'm gonna have a Tic Tac here we go
00:54:07
we're all good I'm not that big today
00:54:09
um it was the what one was it Leighton
00:54:11
pain Ginger with my flatmate yeah and me
00:54:14
just smashing that [ __ ] thing I had
00:54:16
28 million views or 25 million y'all
00:54:18
can't remember what 20 something maybe
00:54:20
24 million right and it was huge and it
00:54:23
blew me up I grew like 500 000 people in
00:54:24
two days right so so when you film a
00:54:27
clip like that they're playing with
00:54:27
Jenga one are you like we should do this
00:54:29
this would be a good idea because I
00:54:30
won't be able to [ __ ] control myself
00:54:32
yeah yeah that's exactly yeah right I
00:54:35
did part one and I was going 15 000
00:54:37
views every 20 seconds and I was like
00:54:38
let's post part two and part two went to
00:54:40
24 mil
00:54:41
part one winter 10 mil and it blew me up
00:54:44
and then I posted them on Facebook and I
00:54:45
blew up
00:54:46
post it on Instagram three million views
00:54:49
later it's those are huge views bro I'm
00:54:51
on Instagram that's like for a hundred
00:54:53
thousand views it should be about
00:54:54
averaging 10 000 likes between six and
00:54:58
ten thousand you should be hitting that
00:54:59
market
00:55:00
which is heaps
00:55:02
um for a million views it's like
00:55:05
um
00:55:05
85 to 100 000 likes we'll get you a
00:55:09
million yeah that's a million that's
00:55:11
what that's what like stats look like on
00:55:13
my account yeah so the Social Media
00:55:15
stuff have you just learned this
00:55:18
through like trial and error along the
00:55:19
yeah yeah that's it everyone I speak to
00:55:22
about you talks about how smart you are
00:55:24
with Social Media stuff hey thanks for
00:55:25
that I really appreciate that uh no bro
00:55:27
I'm just a [ __ ] moldy on a mission
00:55:28
yeah
00:55:30
so so I'd be Nifty bro oh you go ahead
00:55:34
we'll collaborate on a video and it
00:55:36
might hit a hundred thousand but we
00:55:37
might also have a good conversation
00:55:39
about something that's quite
00:55:40
controversial not even controversial and
00:55:42
a head to Mill just because just because
00:55:44
our faces are in it and they know what
00:55:45
it will be you'll you'll you always end
00:55:48
up with something at the end that you
00:55:49
wanted to know kind of thing yeah
00:55:53
one which blows up then are you like
00:55:55
you've got a like a thirst for yeah I
00:55:58
suppose you get their dopamine hit let's
00:56:00
like [ __ ] up it felt good I need to
00:56:01
top it I need to nah nah I got nervous
00:56:04
anxious guy had 25 000 hate comments
00:56:08
yeah out of how many though
00:56:11
I was an average every 35 seconds I was
00:56:13
getting a hate comment oh four months
00:56:15
wow like what's it ahead coming I said
00:56:18
this guy's so fake [ __ ] this guy right
00:56:20
[ __ ] he's all [ __ ] I'm like bro come
00:56:22
over my shoes for a day bro come throw
00:56:24
yourself around and call people call
00:56:26
people names that you don't really want
00:56:27
to save yeah I suppose that's the thing
00:56:29
because it's because it's headed to the
00:56:30
innocent nature of social media I
00:56:32
suppose it could look fake but yeah as I
00:56:34
said before sitting with you here for
00:56:36
the last hour [ __ ] man
00:56:38
your Nick must be sore at the end of the
00:56:40
day nah I've been doing it for 25 years
00:56:42
mate 20 years
00:56:43
yeah bro I honestly think I have the
00:56:46
strongest neck muscles in [ __ ] ulti
00:56:47
at all bro well like honestly it doesn't
00:56:49
hurt I'll make it look at it it looks
00:56:52
exhausting no but it's not I'm happy
00:56:54
um I do get a sore back
00:56:56
um
00:56:58
yeah but yeah I'll get a massage and
00:57:01
we'll come over and give me a message
00:57:02
I've just found a new masseuse and she's
00:57:05
the bomb this
00:57:06
um Samoan I think she's someone or
00:57:09
Tongan lady from Hamilton she's the bomb
00:57:11
yeah and she comes over and yeah she's
00:57:13
gonna start doing Libby as well but how
00:57:14
often do you get here I just hit her
00:57:16
once two weeks ago but I'm just gonna
00:57:18
start doing it once a month with you
00:57:19
yeah cool I think that could be pretty
00:57:20
cool for me and Peter getting I'm I'm 30
00:57:22
bro starts disintegrating from here babe
00:57:25
so yeah starts downhill on this you
00:57:28
don't look after yourself and run more
00:57:29
but yeah mate so so you you drove up
00:57:31
from Hamilton to this podcast today when
00:57:33
when you're driving do you have tick
00:57:35
attacks yeah we'll talk yeah I'll just
00:57:37
pull over and leave my thing and then
00:57:39
leave right yeah but I nine times out of
00:57:41
ten I've got a real flowy day man oh oh
00:57:44
I know what I'm supposed to be doing I
00:57:45
have everything written out for me
00:57:46
usually by
00:57:49
my um team at my podcast or things that
00:57:52
I need to do or I have a some sort of my
00:57:54
manager would have told me or email me
00:57:56
something in my Google Calendar and I
00:57:58
know exactly what I need to be at a
00:57:59
certain time and yeah if I'm having if I
00:58:02
if I know I'm going to be a bit uh Tiki
00:58:05
today I'll give myself that more time to
00:58:07
be able to get there and enjoy myself in
00:58:09
that day rather than always run behind
00:58:11
sketch now it doesn't always work like
00:58:12
that but most of the time I run to a
00:58:15
pretty clean and nice schedule and I'm
00:58:17
techy I can pull over for 5 10 and I go
00:58:20
off again you know [ __ ] like that yeah
00:58:21
it's pretty cool you just you manage it
00:58:23
you have to so did I did I see or hear
00:58:26
an interview with um Olivia somewhere
00:58:28
and she talked about you
00:58:29
you get fixated on things I think this
00:58:31
is an ADHD thing like you'll get home at
00:58:32
two in the morning and you'll decide to
00:58:33
do the vacuuming yeah bro yeah I'll do
00:58:35
that every week what's that is that just
00:58:37
um ADHD yeah that's just me been wanting
00:58:38
to be an anal clean [ __ ]
00:58:41
I'm so anal bro I'm always like no this
00:58:44
is going to be done now I'm going to do
00:58:45
it now rather than get up in the morning
00:58:46
and and have to do it I'll just tidy up
00:58:48
tonight rather do it at 4am and then I
00:58:50
can sleep through the day and relax yeah
00:58:53
but I've been drinking that much
00:58:54
actually I've just been doing my own
00:58:56
thing yeah so when when you are drinking
00:58:59
when you get intoxicated do the ticks
00:59:00
get in it do they get less the more
00:59:02
pissed you get or do my tourettes get
00:59:04
any more less or do my Tourette's mellow
00:59:07
out you're trying to say yeah yeah bro
00:59:09
but I still take instead of me going
00:59:12
um but
00:59:16
um right yeah they don't Disappear
00:59:16
Completely there's nothing you can do to
00:59:19
get apart from sleep to get a break from
00:59:20
it
00:59:21
certain things can
00:59:23
can break that yep [ __ ] intimacy yeah
00:59:26
anything I still take it at certain
00:59:28
times when I shouldn't be but I mean I
00:59:30
don't need to say much more about that
00:59:32
if you need to know more go and Google
00:59:34
it yeah go Google on the Hub bro you're
00:59:36
pretty sure you can search up Shuffle
00:59:37
it's on there with [ __ ] yeah but yeah
00:59:40
it's all very normal right right yeah do
00:59:42
you get a lot of people asking about
00:59:43
your sex life every day it's like my
00:59:45
number one mask on the street yeah what
00:59:48
do they ask exactly what's it like for
00:59:50
you I might do honestly go and look on
00:59:51
PornHub
00:59:53
go Google something I'm sure you'll find
00:59:55
something on there and what you're
00:59:57
thinking already happens so why do I
00:59:58
need to say it right like yeah it's
01:00:00
funny people are funny and what else
01:00:03
what are the other most um commonly
01:00:04
asked questions I just get you're a
01:00:06
piece of [ __ ]
01:00:07
on the street I actually got that yeah
01:00:09
wait actually yeah someone came out from
01:00:11
who oh just this random pass it going
01:00:13
bro actually but I think you're a piece
01:00:15
of [ __ ] and I'm like
01:00:16
hey bro that's not what your missus said
01:00:18
when I was clapping them chicks
01:00:24
like well sometimes I'm just like yeah
01:00:26
bro good tomorrow enjoy your day I don't
01:00:28
care I mean there's a saying that talk
01:00:29
is cheap but actually on the internet
01:00:31
talk is free and it has very little
01:00:33
meaning and very little consequence so
01:00:35
people can say whatever they want
01:00:36
without any sort of applications don't
01:00:38
even matter oh well I'd like to see
01:00:40
those people go out and be themselves
01:00:41
and have a good job and do that sort of
01:00:43
[ __ ] I'm not going to say anything mean
01:00:45
[ __ ] bro in the past though I've gone up
01:00:47
to them going I will enjoy your nine to
01:00:48
five or I go and make videos about being
01:00:51
myself and getting paid for it what are
01:00:53
you doing for yourself nothing yeah
01:00:55
that's [ __ ] ignorant of me to say I
01:00:57
have said that once or twice and I feel
01:00:58
so stupid after I settled on my [ __ ]
01:01:01
that makes me look cocky it's kind of
01:01:03
douchey but they kind of ask for it in a
01:01:05
way oh yeah I've only ever done that
01:01:06
once or twice and I felt real [ __ ] about
01:01:08
myself as a person even though I'm the
01:01:09
one getting roasted but I yeah I find
01:01:11
different ways to go about like oh well
01:01:13
that's not what your [ __ ] said when I
01:01:14
was gaping your cheeks like what the
01:01:16
[ __ ] are you gonna say back to that in
01:01:17
the middle of 50 people in the mall
01:01:18
nothing exactly shut your mouth
01:01:21
so I'll I'll talk them yeah so so um how
01:01:24
many Tick Tock followers are you New
01:01:26
Zealand's number one Tech talk Creator
01:01:28
yeah I've been like that number one now
01:01:29
for like a year and a half how many
01:01:31
followers like four million or something
01:01:32
uh 4.4 it would be 4.5 probably after
01:01:34
this it's growing quite rapidly do you
01:01:36
want to see how many followers I've gone
01:01:37
yeah it's an insane number it's like the
01:01:39
population of New Zealand just this week
01:01:42
when does it grow like if you put a new
01:01:43
video up do you notice it growing or
01:01:45
yeah sometimes do you become obsessed
01:01:47
with the Analytics
01:01:48
that's 25 000 this week last week I grew
01:01:51
85 000.
01:01:54
yeah but yeah no I don't I used to get
01:01:56
really obsessed with like the viewership
01:01:57
accounts and all that if it's not
01:01:59
hitting I'm not doing something right
01:02:00
and sometimes I talk with this quite a
01:02:02
lot with Jimmy Jimmy Jackson and we'll
01:02:04
talk about this but it's what's he got
01:02:05
what are his numbers I think I'm like
01:02:06
2.2 million on Tick Tock but he's got a
01:02:08
junior no
01:02:10
no let's see huge YouTube yeah it's not
01:02:12
like 1.5 million on YouTube and that's
01:02:14
where the money is so yeah what would he
01:02:17
make a million on Facebook what what
01:02:18
would he make a month up from like
01:02:20
YouTube like pre-roll ads or whatever oh
01:02:22
I can't tell you that yeah it's not my
01:02:24
place to say but a lot a lot so what
01:02:27
about you can you remember the first
01:02:28
like brand deal you got all the first
01:02:30
like sponsorship deal you got on
01:02:32
one of the big companies was one
01:02:34
Vodafone they came I love those guys
01:02:36
they always [ __ ] they go here's the
01:02:38
[ __ ] budget ticks and this is what we
01:02:41
want what can you do I'm like
01:02:42
all right what you [ __ ] are gonna do
01:02:44
for me is gonna give me a SIM card I'm
01:02:46
gonna go to [ __ ] dinner
01:02:47
and I'm gonna you guys sponsored this
01:02:50
whole video and I can post this video
01:02:51
because of you guys and I'll film me at
01:02:54
Teresa dinner and I'll plug it at the
01:02:56
start there's 17 million views the most
01:02:58
that was one of the largest
01:03:01
um naturally
01:03:03
just done videos that I've ever seen an
01:03:05
ad in the country do
01:03:06
and what no one paid for that no one
01:03:08
bumped it no one did anything it just
01:03:09
went naturally right 17 mil 18. can you
01:03:12
I mean given the success of it 17
01:03:15
million that's an unbelievable route
01:03:17
[ __ ] huge can can you say for shits
01:03:19
and giggles how much they paid you no no
01:03:21
I won't even disclose anything like that
01:03:22
no one needs to know that sort of [ __ ]
01:03:24
and people get that and hindsight was
01:03:26
okay tell you off camera I can tell you
01:03:28
off camera but um um people people
01:03:31
people people get real real real real
01:03:33
real
01:03:34
touchy with um with money money chat
01:03:37
yeah sorry it's a very personal question
01:03:38
because I'm I'm disabled oh [ __ ] yeah oh
01:03:42
that's I mean given it the the reach of
01:03:45
17 million that is good value for money
01:03:47
on their part but that's a big
01:03:49
investment yeah and and good for you and
01:03:52
my manager borrows the bomb Daniel
01:03:54
Daniel ended off he is the man man um
01:03:56
but yeah I'll never disclose money
01:03:57
because people people get really touchy
01:03:59
about yeah disabled like you're making
01:04:01
money off your disability and I have
01:04:02
every right to it's my disability just
01:04:05
like I have the right to say the word
01:04:06
[ __ ] that's my word I'm disabled I can
01:04:09
say that word if I want to just like a
01:04:10
person of color may say the Inward and
01:04:13
so on and so forth like people that can
01:04:15
own their own words yeah it's [ __ ] like
01:04:17
that if you're
01:04:20
and I can do whatever the [ __ ] I like
01:04:22
with it but
01:04:23
man that's written on this bit of paper
01:04:24
how long would it take you to earn that
01:04:25
countdown oh [ __ ] yeah six months I
01:04:30
wouldn't have a clue bro my mess is
01:04:33
always stories
01:04:34
whenever I get brand deals coming in and
01:04:36
we sit down I usually talk about it as a
01:04:38
flat we never disclose it outside of the
01:04:40
flat though [ __ ] I'm making this this
01:04:42
week and she's like Jesus Christ
01:04:45
that would take me like six months or
01:04:48
five months to do and I'm like
01:04:50
I'm gonna go to Bali
01:04:52
you want to go to Bali babe that's
01:04:55
pretty funny and she's like yeah let's
01:04:57
let's do it then I've got a podcast
01:04:58
coming out with Susie Bates who's one of
01:04:59
New Zealand's most famous female
01:05:01
cricketers ever yeah and um oh that's
01:05:03
cool so she's like a she's like a
01:05:05
trained um PE teacher but she's never
01:05:07
had to do that as a as a job because the
01:05:09
money's started to come in and Cricket
01:05:11
so she'll do get 20 grand here 30 grand
01:05:13
here for doing one of those big bash
01:05:15
series overseas like in India or the UK
01:05:16
that's [ __ ] unreal bro on like a
01:05:19
little continent hey yeah going overseas
01:05:21
anyway yeah yeah but she's sort of like
01:05:22
oh she she's got these these deals that
01:05:25
are coming in at the later stages of her
01:05:26
career and she's like [ __ ] how long
01:05:28
would it take me to earn that as a PE
01:05:29
teacher and yeah just thinking about the
01:05:31
normal job that she's going to need when
01:05:32
Cricket's over yeah
01:05:35
but I'm guessing there's also on the
01:05:37
flip side of that you've got courageous
01:05:40
Brands like Vodafone slash one that want
01:05:43
to work with you and be daring yeah
01:05:44
there's also probably a lot of brands
01:05:45
that are conservative and they don't
01:05:46
want to work with you because of the and
01:05:48
yeah cool stay where you are I'd rather
01:05:51
go with the people that are more
01:05:52
accepting and inclusive of people like
01:05:54
me and accept disabilities so if you're
01:05:56
one of those companies and you may want
01:05:58
to work together awesome come come call
01:05:59
it all with us my manager Daniel is the
01:06:01
man and he'll just tell you straight up
01:06:03
how it is and what we're good with what
01:06:05
we're doing we usually take creative
01:06:06
control I leave out racial slurs and um
01:06:10
uh certain other little things so we
01:06:12
don't get taken down but otherwise it's
01:06:14
a free game for anything and what
01:06:15
happens happens and if you don't like
01:06:17
that being said don't come here in the
01:06:19
first place yeah so respectfully
01:06:20
respectfully yeah who who is Daniel how
01:06:23
did you meet him Daniel well I've known
01:06:24
Daniel my manager Daniel for years
01:06:26
um he was just a hustler I bought out I
01:06:28
remember the first time I ever met him I
01:06:29
bought a Tommy Hilfiger watch off him
01:06:31
I've still got the watch actually and he
01:06:33
sold it to me for 250 bucks and I could
01:06:36
have bought it online for like 170 but
01:06:37
it came from America and just he was
01:06:40
just a hustler boat I actually probably
01:06:42
could have brought it for way less but
01:06:43
he's a hustler man and he he's the man
01:06:45
and then I met him and there was three
01:06:47
people in my life that could be my
01:06:48
manager
01:06:49
number one is Jackson who's a good
01:06:51
friend of mine he works in film and
01:06:53
television uh movies and TV and he is a
01:06:57
organizational freak he's the man
01:07:00
another guy Bieber Nichols who
01:07:03
um does a lot of nightlife stuff in
01:07:04
Hamilton really good friend of mine uh
01:07:06
Ben his friend uh for [ __ ] years he
01:07:09
helped me get into the videography scene
01:07:11
and helped me build her actually
01:07:12
probably it probably helped me build to
01:07:14
who I am today with film because and get
01:07:17
and do get away with doing what I did
01:07:18
because he put me in the deep end along
01:07:21
with Mitch Lowe and that who owned um
01:07:22
Bay dreams in it and um well Mitch Cowan
01:07:25
and Toby And then and then yeah so it
01:07:28
was those three there it was Bevin
01:07:31
um Jackson or Dan and Dan's the more
01:07:33
free one Jackson doesn't have time and
01:07:35
Bevan is just always on a mission so it
01:07:37
was Daniel and that's how I did it yeah
01:07:39
and Daniel and he was he I asked him I
01:07:42
could probably go back through our
01:07:42
messages at about 40 or 35
01:07:45
000 followers to 40 000 followers I was
01:07:47
getting recognized in the countdown out
01:07:49
and then I was like I need someone to
01:07:51
help me do this we're getting brain
01:07:52
deals coming up my ass they were only
01:07:54
minor things like you might have a
01:07:56
company come to you we want to give you
01:07:57
t-shirts for for for free posts and and
01:08:01
we'll give you 500 bucks and I might I
01:08:03
can't I can't deal with all this [ __ ]
01:08:04
and then he just takes a percentage and
01:08:06
does it all for me and he's been doing
01:08:08
it ever since and the dude just gets the
01:08:11
steals coming out of her ass it's pretty
01:08:12
cool yeah good yeah
01:08:16
I suppose it's like a career transition
01:08:18
that uh you could never have foreseen
01:08:20
coming like you don't no you can't plan
01:08:22
it out
01:08:23
no no you can't and and a lot of these
01:08:26
kids want to go and [ __ ] talk to
01:08:28
schools or if I go and talk to groups of
01:08:31
people these kids are like I want to be
01:08:32
rich and famous I'm like you can be rich
01:08:34
but being famous isn't for everyone
01:08:36
trust me when I say that you've had a
01:08:38
dash of Fame in your past and now you've
01:08:40
got one of the largest podcasts in the
01:08:42
in the country mate I know how much your
01:08:44
downloads are I do my research so
01:08:48
um you should be proud of yourself but
01:08:49
also you get that you know what it's
01:08:51
like to be in a public eye mate you know
01:08:53
it's It's Hard Out yeah although you
01:08:56
know we mentioned as well Edison before
01:08:58
so he's he's like at the top of the
01:09:00
mountain
01:09:01
I'm I'm base camp
01:09:04
so I you still get recognized someone
01:09:07
comes up to me though I'll I'll always
01:09:09
be nice to them like it's never an issue
01:09:10
Israel out of San Diego at jevwest
01:09:13
Steakhouse that's another kiddler fish
01:09:15
same as uh as you and the mall different
01:09:17
I'm all good
01:09:20
um
01:09:20
I Heard um some people even go to your
01:09:24
house
01:09:25
yeah yeah people kids oh kids broke uh
01:09:28
well of course like secondary school age
01:09:30
kids primary school age kids 14 and up
01:09:32
yeah I'll come down my driveway groups
01:09:34
of them thinking it's okay and what's
01:09:35
Buzzy bow is the these these parents of
01:09:39
these kids will bring them to my house
01:09:41
and walk up my driveway to come meet me
01:09:42
I'm like no that's not how you do it
01:09:43
that's not what we do no you're you're
01:09:46
invading my privacy [ __ ] off [ __ ] it in
01:09:48
the most politest way I know that might
01:09:50
sound really forward of me but when
01:09:51
you've had it done over a thousand times
01:09:53
now
01:09:56
it just [ __ ] pisses me off it's like
01:09:58
give me mine space it's my own house I
01:10:02
want to walk around the house on Mondays
01:10:03
if I want to I don't want someone
01:10:04
peeping through my window it's like come
01:10:06
on [ __ ] [ __ ] it really it really it
01:10:09
really does [ __ ] with my emotions and my
01:10:11
mental health when people are doing that
01:10:12
[ __ ] like I'll openly I posted a video
01:10:14
not that long ago and their parents
01:10:18
ended up praising me and thanking me for
01:10:20
that because it made he did get a lot of
01:10:21
[ __ ] actually on the internet and they
01:10:23
kept an eye on him to make sure he
01:10:24
wasn't too suicidal or anything like
01:10:25
that because I always caught it all with
01:10:26
the parents they're like would you take
01:10:28
the video down I'm like no there's a
01:10:30
reason why not I'm not trying to be mean
01:10:31
to your boy uh or or degrade or put them
01:10:34
down or dox them I didn't say anything
01:10:36
about with I didn't even know where
01:10:37
they're from but I was like this is a
01:10:39
lead this is a learned lesson for them
01:10:40
and any other one that wants to come
01:10:42
down my driveway don't come down my
01:10:44
driveway and people like you could have
01:10:45
worded this better and been polite I'm
01:10:47
like [ __ ] off dude you're in no position
01:10:49
to say that you're not my [ __ ]
01:10:51
possession you don't know what it's like
01:10:52
every single day having people come up
01:10:54
to you shut up and you don't have people
01:10:56
come down your drive if you had [ __ ]
01:10:57
people coming up to your house and
01:10:58
taking photos in your windows would you
01:10:59
be pissed off of course well then they
01:11:01
can all shut the [ __ ] up because you're
01:11:03
not in my position to say that and
01:11:05
people got upset with me and they're
01:11:06
like oh you should have waited a bit I'm
01:11:07
like no dude I've been posting this on
01:11:09
my story for two years now don't come
01:11:10
down my driveway I'm I've I've reached
01:11:12
my my my point where there's no return
01:11:15
I'm [ __ ] pissed off now so either own
01:11:17
it uh well I just had to own it and
01:11:19
smash it and that's what I did and then
01:11:21
yeah it's quite funny hey like um I
01:11:24
suppose like just piecing the whole
01:11:25
whole latent story together like the
01:11:27
thick skin that you developed as a kid
01:11:29
in school probably helped prepare you
01:11:33
for the social media Journey yeah I'm
01:11:37
not gonna lie just the ability to shake
01:11:38
this [ __ ] off do you block people or do
01:11:40
you just like scroll through the
01:11:41
comments and you're immune to them no
01:11:43
[ __ ] I [ __ ] yeah I'm blocking 100
01:11:45
people in the Hampshire that's 100
01:11:46
people average a week yep maybe 10 15
01:11:49
people a day like what what does it take
01:11:50
to get blocked just a nasty comment you
01:11:52
can find something really yeah I'll find
01:11:53
you something I'll block someone right
01:11:54
now that deserves it I'll go to my
01:11:56
recent video that blew up because of the
01:11:58
way I'm in my social media presence is
01:12:00
way way smaller than yours but um I'll
01:12:02
I'll block anyone that comes into my
01:12:04
space and writes a negative comment yeah
01:12:06
I mean anyone should bro um
01:12:09
um I went to Europe [ __ ] and it was
01:12:11
amazing went to Italy
01:12:13
and I got heaps of [ __ ] from Italian
01:12:15
people now this is being straight up
01:12:19
everywhere else in the world I've been
01:12:20
hasn't been as hearty as that like every
01:12:23
second person was looking at me going
01:12:25
stupid or something like that
01:12:27
economy stupid all right [ __ ] I got
01:12:29
[ __ ] quite a bit when I was over
01:12:30
there bro
01:12:31
and I had a few altercations when I was
01:12:33
there
01:12:34
and I posted up a video of me saying
01:12:36
well how come this is happening only in
01:12:39
your country and nowhere else and you
01:12:41
guys need to find a better way to deal
01:12:42
with with your disabled here and have it
01:12:45
more accepting people went off their
01:12:47
nuts at me saying you're generalizing
01:12:49
you're doing this I'm like well if you
01:12:50
watch the video and be real with
01:12:52
yourself
01:12:53
um it might come across as xenophobic
01:12:55
and I'd never try and be xenophobic or
01:12:57
imply I'm racist or anything like that
01:12:59
I'm not a racist person or a xenophobic
01:13:01
person
01:13:02
um I just got pissed off that it only
01:13:03
happened in Italy and I had to say it
01:13:06
like you might not like to hear that but
01:13:07
maybe it's something
01:13:09
like a generational thing I don't
01:13:10
[ __ ] know bro over there there's no
01:13:12
lanyard so I wear a sunflower lanyard
01:13:14
that can showcase either hidden
01:13:17
disability in Italy they don't have
01:13:19
anything like that they're one of the
01:13:20
only countries in the world that don't
01:13:21
have that for example the [ __ ] UAE
01:13:24
have the lanyard and accept it as a an
01:13:27
open thing in their country it's pushed
01:13:29
all throughout their [ __ ] like
01:13:30
Billboards and [ __ ] the sunflower
01:13:32
lanyard I can't read their writing I've
01:13:34
never heard of that well now you do now
01:13:35
you don't know right but even in the UAE
01:13:38
and they're more accepting than the
01:13:39
[ __ ] Italian brothers and sisters
01:13:40
like come on so you you wear that when
01:13:43
like when you're on a plane go through
01:13:45
airports at the Coliseum wherever yeah
01:13:48
everywhere there it's real real I don't
01:13:50
know if I've ever seen I've never
01:13:51
noticed one on anyone go back and watch
01:13:52
my videos you'll see it there
01:13:54
huh yeah you're gonna if you go back to
01:13:56
the one of me at the Coliseum right
01:13:57
running and screaming you should see it
01:13:59
on I should have it on for yeah yeah
01:14:00
I've seen it I've seen that video I've
01:14:01
seen that way I did take it off the end
01:14:03
because I go like that and the [ __ ]
01:14:05
lanyard snaps off at the back so I end
01:14:07
up carrying it and Swinging it around so
01:14:08
I give it to someone else told but but
01:14:10
yeah um I got a lot of [ __ ] and honestly
01:14:12
the comments and the backlash of people
01:14:14
calling me names and you deserve it
01:14:17
um it's just
01:14:18
unfathomable and fair enough people can
01:14:21
be mad because I'm kind of mad and
01:14:23
looking I'm not looking down on anyone
01:14:25
but kind of saying that like Italy has
01:14:28
less than that but like honestly bro
01:14:30
someone's like deal it stop crying man
01:14:32
up that's not that there we go I'm gonna
01:14:34
book this person
01:14:35
they're like how is that going to help
01:14:37
anything deal deal with your Tourette's
01:14:40
stop crying and man up crooked bye bye
01:14:44
have a great time
01:14:46
arrivederci [ __ ] so um how was
01:14:50
who did you travel with
01:14:51
um my flatmate Alex yeah short blonde
01:14:54
one uh the second hot one in my house
01:14:56
because Olivia's the hot blonde one and
01:14:58
um and uh Jackson my best friend yeah
01:15:00
and how was the airport I've heard you
01:15:02
and other interviews talk about how
01:15:04
you've just got this um uncontrollable
01:15:06
urge to yell at ball bomb yeah there we
01:15:08
go did that happen at all [ __ ] yeah
01:15:10
imagine that happening in an Arab
01:15:11
country
01:15:19
so I'm guessing the more anxious you get
01:15:22
about not saying it the more likely you
01:15:24
are going to say oh you're on the
01:15:26
[ __ ] money there Tom yeah bro yeah so
01:15:28
I was in a in the Abu dhabi's [ __ ]
01:15:31
terminal yelling we all got bombs Arabs
01:15:34
Arabs have bombs bombs bombs bombs and
01:15:37
um
01:15:38
I don't care they were like they saw
01:15:39
Millennia and let it be now let me go
01:15:41
They're not going to stand there you can
01:15:44
see them Whispering he's got the lanyard
01:15:45
and then they just walk on the security
01:15:47
they wouldn't care please please don't
01:15:49
come running sometimes right and they
01:15:50
come down there and be like sorry bro
01:15:52
I've got disability like oh okay cool
01:15:54
walk off
01:15:57
oh that's cool in amazing people bro
01:16:00
right so I had no idea about the lanyard
01:16:02
thing but I'm guessing the key people
01:16:03
like you know people at airports and
01:16:05
whatever they do know about them yeah
01:16:07
yeah um and that country is very
01:16:08
westernized now so it's quite common to
01:16:11
see people rocking through with the
01:16:12
lanyard and and in the UK only had one
01:16:15
problem was this bloody crackhead random
01:16:17
hooligan on a train who said why are you
01:16:20
[ __ ] making all that sound for he
01:16:22
wasn't too happy it's like an Irish dude
01:16:24
and he was [ __ ] me it is in London
01:16:26
yeah yeah it was on the Victoria line
01:16:31
this was a Sunday morning right and and
01:16:34
it was pretty empty and we were coming
01:16:36
back we were actually heading to the
01:16:38
airport to leave to go to Rome and our
01:16:40
flight was like an afternoon flight but
01:16:42
we wanted to get there early and get
01:16:43
through customs
01:16:44
um
01:16:45
everybody was crackhead bro and he
01:16:47
[ __ ] we're on the Victoria line we
01:16:48
had to swap over to the Elizabeth line
01:16:49
and he gets off the train he's like why
01:16:52
are you [ __ ] making all that sound
01:16:53
I'm like I've got Tourette's I've got a
01:16:55
disabilizer I don't give a [ __ ] I'm like
01:16:56
well [ __ ] you then [ __ ] you [ __ ]
01:16:58
crackhead bro he got so mad he tried to
01:17:00
come back on the train run on the train
01:17:01
throwing his bottle at the train this
01:17:03
plastic bottle with water in it I'm like
01:17:04
yeah you [ __ ] you wanker look at you
01:17:07
you absolute cocky he was not happy he
01:17:09
was watching the train leave and uh
01:17:12
[ __ ] [ __ ] I hope he sees me on the
01:17:14
internet one day and goes it was that
01:17:16
boy oh my God I feel bad but yeah [ __ ]
01:17:18
him the um The Tick Tock I saw from you
01:17:21
um outside the Coliseum like yeah you
01:17:22
can see you're getting noticed by a few
01:17:24
people
01:17:25
um you've got so many followers saying
01:17:27
uh yeah not all of them are from New
01:17:28
Zealand they're from all over the all
01:17:29
over the world did that happen a lot you
01:17:31
get recognized quite a bit when you
01:17:32
travel every day yeah yeah nice people
01:17:34
coming up Tops on the street and saying
01:17:36
hello not as much as here
01:17:37
um in America America is well bad we
01:17:39
couldn't go to a mall without getting
01:17:41
stopped 100 times that was that was
01:17:43
really out the gate for me that was like
01:17:45
holy [ __ ] I've actually made this huge
01:17:48
is that quite satisfying though
01:17:50
overwhelming for me I don't really get
01:17:52
that satisfying urge of like oh I'm
01:17:53
famous I get the over overwhelming
01:17:55
feeling of oh [ __ ] oh [ __ ] I just want
01:17:58
to go [ __ ] in peace I have a poo and
01:18:00
peace and mummy and peace um it was
01:18:02
quite overwhelming but also I respect
01:18:03
and I'm very grateful for it like I'm
01:18:06
very grateful for where I am but it's
01:18:07
more overwhelming opposed to the
01:18:09
satisfaction like yeah
01:18:12
yeah overwhelming yeah because if it
01:18:15
hadn't been for like blowing up on
01:18:16
social media what would you be doing now
01:18:17
just the videography yeah yeah
01:18:20
um I can't really do much with things
01:18:22
these days [ __ ] I've got itchiest nose I
01:18:24
can't really do much weddings these days
01:18:25
because I take away I feel I take away
01:18:28
from the bride and groom when I arrive
01:18:29
and I start filming because no one wants
01:18:31
to hang out with the bride of Groom they
01:18:32
want to go hang out with uncle Tex and
01:18:34
be on this video with them it's it kind
01:18:36
of took away from it a little bit and
01:18:37
the last reading I ever filmed I was
01:18:39
just like oh this is the last time I'm
01:18:40
putting myself out there for this yeah
01:18:42
I'll go back into it one day yeah
01:18:43
[ __ ] I I know myself I'm I'm a whiz
01:18:46
with a camera I always have been thanks
01:18:49
to my my Uncle Craig bless his heart
01:18:52
um passed away when I was real young but
01:18:54
he was the one that got me into taking
01:18:55
photos and [ __ ] when I was younger he
01:18:56
used to have a mean ass camera the first
01:18:58
1D that ever came out 1D which is like
01:19:01
Canon camera
01:19:02
it was all and I used to take photos of
01:19:04
that [ __ ] heavy [ __ ] thing bro
01:19:07
yeah oh no your work's incredible and
01:19:10
it's really good to like watch it
01:19:13
develop over the last few years
01:19:14
there's a lot of there's a lot of um
01:19:16
takeaways that a lot of young creators
01:19:18
could get from you yep yeah man and if
01:19:21
other creators want [ __ ] ideas I
01:19:23
should say I should start doing like
01:19:25
seminars or talk say like 100 I was
01:19:28
thinking you're like the Mr Beast of New
01:19:29
Zealand hey that's cool hey hey that's a
01:19:31
[ __ ] compliment that's the beat oh oh
01:19:34
you're less annoying than that really
01:19:36
yeah hey no Mr Beast is a man
01:19:38
my shoulders with with Jimmy your boat
01:19:41
Mr beast real briefly for like 20
01:19:43
seconds in L.A at VidCon had this big
01:19:46
pinball machine and you'd go get this
01:19:49
huge [ __ ] big plastic um
01:19:53
um dime and you'd go stick it in the
01:19:55
machine and twist it and then a ball
01:19:56
would drop down from the top inside the
01:19:58
machine it would go right from the top
01:20:00
drop all the way down and you open it up
01:20:01
and you've won something and there's
01:20:03
people online for days and he was giving
01:20:04
away like 20 Teslas like a thousand
01:20:07
PlayStations
01:20:08
like 100 like 100 million dollars worth
01:20:11
of stupid it was just ridiculous like
01:20:12
that's probably an exaggeration but
01:20:14
millions of dollars worth of [ __ ] from
01:20:16
this pinball machine and people were
01:20:17
winning like two Teslas a day
01:20:19
and I was like holy I didn't do it I
01:20:21
just walked past the company bother
01:20:22
waiting in line for three hours but I
01:20:25
brushed shoulders with him as he was
01:20:26
coming arriving in two big Sprinter
01:20:27
blacked out Sprinter vans pulled up
01:20:29
everything he walks out I'm like hey bro
01:20:31
he's like hey man I was like
01:20:34
oh well [ __ ] that's yep all right cool
01:20:36
yeah bro nice keep walking here and my
01:20:38
muscles is like who's that am I oh
01:20:40
that's Mr Beast and I got on my phone
01:20:41
I'm like oh Jimmy Jackson because
01:20:42
Jimmy's a massive fan of Mr Beast we are
01:20:44
both uh oh bro Jimmy
01:20:47
fine I just [ __ ] brush his [ __ ]
01:20:49
shoulders with Mr Beast and he's like
01:20:50
[ __ ] off [ __ ] did you ask for further my
01:20:53
nah I didn't and I just kept walking I
01:20:56
don't need a photo that's gonna always
01:20:57
live in my head forever now yeah come on
01:20:59
nah one day I might meet him your
01:21:02
girlfriend missed out on her opportunity
01:21:03
with sticky fingers there's no
01:21:06
comparison between Sticky Fingers the
01:21:07
band and Mr Beast the greatest YouTuber
01:21:09
ever yeah no you missed it now you're
01:21:12
mad at yourself because you missed a
01:21:13
good old I've got a video of me in it
01:21:19
bro I walked away he was already getting
01:21:21
[ __ ] bombarded by all the kids and I
01:21:23
just know what it's like to be absolute
01:21:24
bombarded sometimes just to be left
01:21:26
alone I said hey bro walked on
01:21:29
[ __ ] oh that that but that's a moment
01:21:32
that'll always live in my head I don't
01:21:33
need people to know that I've seen Mr
01:21:34
Beast or meet him who cares like right
01:21:37
on [ __ ] I've met Mr Beast but at that
01:21:39
moment where I was like brushing
01:21:40
shoulders with them and other famous
01:21:41
people as well you're like
01:21:43
[ __ ] I actually think I've made it babe
01:21:45
I said that too I was like [ __ ] I've
01:21:46
I've done something silly here and as
01:21:49
we're standing to go into VidCon and
01:21:51
Anaheim in in L.A I was like
01:21:55
well it was pretty cool way and we're
01:21:57
going to meet with Tick Tock Australia
01:21:58
later on that day and have bears with
01:22:00
them on a rooftop and they're going to
01:22:01
feed us and get it we got very drunk as
01:22:02
well by the way [ __ ] me I don't even
01:22:04
remember how I got home but we got home
01:22:06
yeah it was a big night it must be must
01:22:09
be um
01:22:10
yeah I'm guessing you've had a
01:22:12
discussion with Liv about the whole
01:22:13
thing so it must be nice that you two
01:22:15
knew each other before the fame yeah
01:22:17
before the fame before the before the
01:22:19
whole social media thing that's got to
01:22:20
be it's gonna be really cool a for
01:22:22
starters you know that
01:22:23
um she's your ride or die yeah she's she
01:22:26
was not with you because of the fame or
01:22:28
anything like all the money that's a lot
01:22:29
of people comment they're like oh Uncle
01:22:31
text she's only there for the money I'm
01:22:33
like I can tell you right now she was
01:22:34
around three years prior to us even
01:22:36
being famous on the Internet or blowing
01:22:38
up so that's a complete understatement
01:22:40
and you don't know who we are so shut
01:22:42
your [ __ ] mouth [ __ ] yeah we get that
01:22:44
quite a bit Yeah so there must be that
01:22:46
must be nice for you to have that sort
01:22:48
of reassurance that she's there for the
01:22:50
right reasons what about her like her
01:22:53
life has changed to complete 180 because
01:22:55
of this Fame that now you've got yep so
01:22:57
she's in [ __ ] some of the biggest
01:22:59
videos we've ever made and she gets
01:23:00
recognized daily hundreds of times when
01:23:03
she's edumahi at the hospital she gets
01:23:05
she'll have kids coming up and saying
01:23:07
hello to her most of the whanau comes up
01:23:09
there especially if it's my demographic
01:23:11
if you've got young Maori kids or Just
01:23:13
teenagers anyone but they're running up
01:23:15
to say hello straight away bro they're
01:23:17
not shame either they'll [ __ ] oh can
01:23:19
I have a photo with you miss and she's
01:23:21
like oh I'm just currently working can I
01:23:23
come back and she'll come back
01:23:25
it's currently inserting a catheter
01:23:28
do you mind me coming back and having a
01:23:30
photo with you after I've stuck it in
01:23:32
his penis
01:23:34
is she okay with it does she get annoyed
01:23:36
by it
01:23:37
um she's okay yeah yeah years ago though
01:23:39
I remember asking her because I used to
01:23:40
do vlogs on the on YouTube and I
01:23:42
remember asking you hey
01:23:44
if I started doing my YouTube stuff
01:23:45
would you be okay with it and she was
01:23:47
okay with it and then this happened so
01:23:49
it's kind of like I wasn't seeking for
01:23:51
the fame or seeking it out I just had a
01:23:53
knack for being creative and really
01:23:55
smart and look where we are now yeah I
01:23:57
could post
01:23:59
25 seconds or from now and say I'm with
01:24:02
you and that could get 25
01:24:03
excuse me I could post a video with you
01:24:07
um we could be doing something funny as
01:24:08
and right now in five minutes and it
01:24:10
could blow up overnight have a million
01:24:12
views you just don't know so yeah it's
01:24:15
yeah overwhelming hey more than like oh
01:24:17
it's a success where is but [ __ ]
01:24:19
overwhelming yeah it's completely
01:24:20
overwhelming and what does the future
01:24:22
look like for you hey you're going to
01:24:24
just keep doing this and see where the
01:24:25
journey takes you I suppose it's one of
01:24:26
those things good question yeah you
01:24:28
can't really put a you can't really plan
01:24:30
it can you no you can't that's what me
01:24:31
and my manager are trying to sort out
01:24:33
we're going to do something now plan for
01:24:35
the future I'd love to be in television
01:24:36
and radio [ __ ] and I'll be the only
01:24:38
disabled male in New Zealand that is
01:24:41
um I think there's like a
01:24:43
someone else does something on the news
01:24:46
and they're disabled but it would be
01:24:47
cool to be in television and be able to
01:24:49
like be that disabled man that's on TV
01:24:52
and being able to be myself yeah
01:24:54
um the inclusivity part yeah there was a
01:24:58
a certain
01:24:59
um distance some companies only go but
01:25:02
yeah I don't know bro it just it just
01:25:04
really depends I don't know I don't know
01:25:05
what I'm gonna [ __ ] yeah so you're
01:25:06
just gonna roll with it and see where it
01:25:07
takes you well your podcast is very sexy
01:25:09
you do a podcast with um
01:25:11
um our mutual friend both our friends
01:25:13
Clint Randall who's um an excellent dude
01:25:16
he's a [ __ ] club I mean your podcast
01:25:17
goes well yep yep check heads on Rover
01:25:20
I'm going to plug it if you want to go
01:25:22
and listen it's on uh it's on Spotify
01:25:24
it's Tic and in heads you know tickets
01:25:27
Clinton Randall and Uncle tucks it's
01:25:29
good fun I really enjoy it bro yeah you
01:25:31
guys had Lewis Capaldi on this season I
01:25:33
watched that on YouTube last night did
01:25:34
you end up connecting with him when you
01:25:35
went to the UK good question I knew you
01:25:37
were going to ask this all right I don't
01:25:39
think I've actually said this on my own
01:25:40
podcast
01:25:42
so
01:25:44
I was
01:25:46
you know 50 meters away from the dude at
01:25:48
Glastonbury
01:25:49
in in our management was sorting out
01:25:52
something here and then we had to go
01:25:54
through a few
01:25:55
a few different chains to get get a hold
01:25:57
of his Management in about 25 minutes
01:26:00
before he went on they said no
01:26:01
and I don't blame him at all because I
01:26:04
probably would have said no as well
01:26:06
um having treats I know what it's like
01:26:07
meeting someone else with tourettes I've
01:26:09
it's full-on bro like I I watched that
01:26:12
interview on on YouTube
01:26:14
um and he there definitely seems to be a
01:26:17
real connection there though like he was
01:26:19
um he was stuck talking to you yeah he
01:26:21
felt like you gave him some peace in a
01:26:23
way yeah well he's like it's really good
01:26:24
talking to people that that also suffer
01:26:26
with the same thing he's like I can
01:26:28
understand I'm like oh bro it's all good
01:26:30
I can understand where you're coming
01:26:31
from because he's like yeah every single
01:26:33
day it's a struggle for me but yeah yeah
01:26:35
he thoroughly enjoyed the chatting when
01:26:37
he comes to New Zealand I'll just catch
01:26:38
up with him I'll come meet him it's not
01:26:39
like I don't have that connection I have
01:26:41
a phone number now I could ring and we
01:26:42
could talk again but it's just no need
01:26:44
I'll just meet him when he comes you
01:26:46
know it's so awesome so he he sort of he
01:26:48
mentioned he had like um like an eye
01:26:50
thing or a blinking thing when he was
01:26:52
younger
01:26:52
um but it's only so come on recently
01:26:54
right yeah for him like bored on I guess
01:26:56
by stress or anxiety yeah I I don't know
01:26:58
I don't know Dom it could be this could
01:27:00
be [ __ ] anything yeah it could be
01:27:01
anything could be the wind changing
01:27:03
direction it's just here things happen
01:27:05
and and it's quite interesting these
01:27:08
days um because Tourette's is a
01:27:11
neurological disorder from a young age
01:27:13
when you're going through adolescence
01:27:14
are you adolescent years and and pubic
01:27:18
era kicks in so um it's quite
01:27:21
interesting to hear of people getting
01:27:22
disability it's quite interesting to
01:27:25
hear of people getting my disability at
01:27:27
such an old age because it's like it
01:27:29
doesn't make sense yeah but it's still
01:27:30
it's still what it is in Twitter it's so
01:27:32
yeah yeah and if you watch this not not
01:27:34
saying they're not valid I'm not saying
01:27:37
it's quite if your watch is different
01:27:38
documentary on Netflix it looks um it
01:27:40
looks uncomfortable
01:27:42
yeah he's he's got movement ticks I've
01:27:45
got verbal he's got movement so yeah um
01:27:48
but oh out of ten he's a solid 10 out of
01:27:50
10. yeah he's a lovely guy I he he was
01:27:54
sitting there chatting to me like for 20
01:27:55
minutes prior to us even filming or 10
01:27:57
minutes prior and he's just a polite guy
01:27:59
bro he's just like me and you still [ __ ]
01:28:01
seat sleeps and [ __ ]
01:28:03
come on man we're all humans at the end
01:28:04
of the day bro
01:28:06
um humans trying to live life yeah just
01:28:08
absolutely everyone's just doing their
01:28:10
best to get through life yeah pretty
01:28:12
much and when did you get Yang done
01:28:13
you've got a sleeve a full full moldy uh
01:28:16
sleeve on your left arm yeah I got it
01:28:17
done in 2021 right yeah are you quite
01:28:20
connected with your roots now I am I'm
01:28:22
getting back to it yeah I want to uh
01:28:25
no so disconnected from my Maori
01:28:28
Heritage I feel embarrassed to even
01:28:29
admit that but um I'm getting back into
01:28:32
it now bro and I'm slowly starting to
01:28:34
learn to do a Maori so yeah oh good
01:28:37
excited bro I'm really excited to see
01:28:38
where it goes in the future good on you
01:28:40
and and um so we're filming this the uh
01:28:42
the day after Father's Day and you you
01:28:44
put a post up yesterday about your dad
01:28:46
did you want to talk about that you
01:28:47
don't want to talk about that ah not
01:28:48
really bro I'm not trying to be an egg
01:28:50
but I will say that no I will say this
01:28:52
losing my father was the hardest thing I
01:28:53
ever did in my life one thing that will
01:28:55
be just it doesn't get any better it's
01:28:57
hard for you but what does get better is
01:28:59
you learn how to deal with it but you
01:29:01
you just you'll never get over it when
01:29:03
did you lose them uh four years ago
01:29:05
right yeah but it just doesn't get any
01:29:08
doesn't get any better you just learn of
01:29:10
ways to deal with it yeah I'd agree with
01:29:12
that you know because there is that
01:29:13
saying that time heals the wounds but I
01:29:14
don't know if it does I don't believe in
01:29:15
there but that's a complete lie I think
01:29:17
I think the um the hurt Remains the Same
01:29:20
but you just grow the capacity as a
01:29:22
person to deal with it better yeah I
01:29:24
think I think I think that is the the
01:29:26
way to go about it but yeah nah I've
01:29:28
always found the ways to deal with it
01:29:30
stay busy and I've quote about it and
01:29:32
done my own thing but um whichever needs
01:29:34
to have a cry every now and then but
01:29:35
yeah you just it just never gets easier
01:29:38
are you quite an emotional person or not
01:29:40
much of a crier hey sometimes I am it
01:29:43
depends what's going on yeah um although
01:29:45
I'm so
01:29:47
ah desensitized to death now because
01:29:50
I've seen like hundreds of dead bodies
01:29:52
from whanau and coming over the par over
01:29:54
the mudai
01:29:56
you just that's death and you just learn
01:29:57
to deal with it and deal with it in a
01:29:59
different way I guess that's a a pack of
01:30:01
a car or a bit of a Pacquiao yarn it's
01:30:04
like um my message deals with death way
01:30:06
different to me so like for example more
01:30:08
pragmatic pragmatic because she's a
01:30:10
nurse or what do you mean well no
01:30:12
actually actually it's a good way to
01:30:13
look at her she's probably very
01:30:14
desensitized now as well but like when
01:30:17
certain family members pass away like
01:30:18
like for me like I didn't even cry about
01:30:20
my dad on the day here I was just like
01:30:22
okay what do we need to do now you know
01:30:24
what I mean yeah I saw the clip you
01:30:26
shared on social media yesterday your
01:30:28
mum's like on the day at the funeral you
01:30:29
were taking business calls I was I was
01:30:31
literally on my phone what was that a
01:30:32
coping mechanism
01:30:35
like in hindsight yeah and no one knew
01:30:37
no one needed to know it was just yeah I
01:30:39
ain't yes yes we'll stay there bit of a
01:30:41
coping mechanism just continue with my
01:30:43
day nothing's going to change the
01:30:45
world's not going to stop for me just
01:30:48
like it's not going to stop for you or
01:30:49
you like if if you have a family member
01:30:51
that dies the world don't give a [ __ ] a
01:30:52
poke you need to get over that and and
01:30:55
better yourself and and continue with
01:30:58
your life you can't just sit there and
01:30:59
dwell on stupid [ __ ] that's the honest
01:31:01
truth I mean you can dwell you can be
01:31:03
sad but man you've got to get up and get
01:31:05
moving again and pay those bills and
01:31:07
go see whanau and go out for that dinner
01:31:09
that you were supposed to do on Tuesday
01:31:11
and so on and so forth that's just how I
01:31:13
look at it but my sister's they're very
01:31:15
much different to me you've got to
01:31:16
remember for example I'm I we all deal
01:31:19
with um
01:31:20
death differently
01:31:22
um
01:31:23
I just got up and keep moving you didn't
01:31:25
stop I did stop and he'll cry and did
01:31:27
what I need to do you always got to do
01:31:28
that but on the day I was like
01:31:31
[ __ ] who do I call First do you want to
01:31:33
call Nena that's what it was like yeah I
01:31:35
had phone calls coming in about work and
01:31:37
I'm just like
01:31:39
I don't know if I should be doing this
01:31:41
um yeah no I'll I'll do that I'll be
01:31:43
Keen to take that job um can you just
01:31:45
give me like six weeks bro I know that's
01:31:47
a long time yeah just six weeks of I'm
01:31:49
gonna need a bit of time off my I won't
01:31:51
be coming in or doing anything do you
01:31:52
mind just a shot thank you so much I'll
01:31:54
email you on Wednesday move on next one
01:31:57
hey hey how are you yeah like No One's
01:31:59
Gonna Stop it's funnier like the um the
01:32:03
sun's gonna rise every day whether
01:32:04
whether you're rising or not exactly
01:32:06
yeah exactly yeah and and so you and
01:32:09
love when are you getting married
01:32:10
I'm going to keep that one to us I'll
01:32:11
tell you off podcast oh really have you
01:32:15
got a date yet yes we do kind of have
01:32:16
one we've been chatting
01:32:18
um but I don't want to say it I don't
01:32:20
want to say it on here or anyone's
01:32:21
podcast I want to keep that for mine and
01:32:24
oh actually I'll tell you off podcast
01:32:26
because no one else is going to know
01:32:27
about that but I do have something
01:32:28
something kind of set in stone I just
01:32:30
want to pair a few bills before we move
01:32:31
on amazing and you
01:32:34
um I can't remember if I saw this online
01:32:36
or heard it on a podcast or read it
01:32:38
somewhere but um you you were reluctant
01:32:40
to to you wanted to adopt you were
01:32:43
reluctant to have your own kids because
01:32:44
you're scared you'd
01:32:46
um is um Tourette's a hereditary thing
01:32:48
well we don't really know Olivia's done
01:32:50
heaps of research but yeah she sits
01:32:52
there for hours on end reading [ __ ]
01:32:53
about it because that's our life that's
01:32:55
what we have to deal with so she does a
01:32:56
lot of research and she said to me she
01:32:58
says it isn't but I seen I've seen other
01:33:01
write-ups that it is so you just don't
01:33:03
know you know so is that a genuine fear
01:33:06
that you've got that yeah it was someone
01:33:07
under the world with tourism it was back
01:33:09
then not So Much Anymore
01:33:11
um I'll just I mean I love making babies
01:33:15
um practice makes perfect practice
01:33:16
doesn't make perfect
01:33:18
I'll do it I [ __ ] love it but um yeah
01:33:22
I I I I I I it was never back in the day
01:33:26
I never really wanted to have any
01:33:28
[ __ ] kids Bro [ __ ] I couldn't
01:33:29
couldn't stand the thought of having
01:33:31
someone out having someone else bear
01:33:33
what I've been through was kind of hard
01:33:35
but another good thing that my mother
01:33:37
said my fiance said she was like well if
01:33:39
you dealt with it you now know how to
01:33:41
deal with it and so does your mother so
01:33:43
and then make it two people it's way
01:33:45
better and now I'm dealing with it we
01:33:47
all can all deal with it together so
01:33:49
yeah
01:33:50
that's such a great attitude God you've
01:33:52
got a good team around you don't you
01:33:53
[ __ ] you have to Bro otherwise I
01:33:55
probably would have done stupid [ __ ]
01:33:56
back in my past so I'm just glad I am
01:33:58
the person I am today just being very
01:33:59
honest does live ever
01:34:02
um you know she seems so accepting and
01:34:04
so tolerant but everyone has days where
01:34:07
they're just not in the mood
01:34:10
of those days where it's like late and
01:34:11
I'm not in the mood for this today yeah
01:34:12
yeah and then both of those days and
01:34:15
then we just stay home and do our own
01:34:16
thing and chill and we'll stay away from
01:34:17
the public eye because you've got to
01:34:18
remember that
01:34:19
my job's a job 24 7. if people come up
01:34:22
to you say I've had a [ __ ] [ __ ] they
01:34:24
say we've had a really [ __ ] day
01:34:28
um and we have to walk around in a
01:34:30
supermarket and there's 500 people in
01:34:32
their supermarket and they all recognize
01:34:33
us
01:34:36
It's Hard Out like oh we'll take we'll
01:34:39
take um turns for example like sugar do
01:34:42
you want to go in or just should I might
01:34:43
you go and I'll pack the car and I'll
01:34:44
stay away because where's the fire going
01:34:46
because we're going to be in there for
01:34:47
20 minutes plus just talking to people
01:34:49
it gets like that
01:34:51
so we have to plan around certain we'll
01:34:52
go on not busy time non-busy times when
01:34:54
school's on right or we'll go for
01:34:56
example if we I've just started trying
01:34:58
to do this but if we I want to do it
01:34:59
here's something I've got in plan and go
01:35:02
to the movies not on a weekend go to a
01:35:03
movies on a Tuesday
01:35:05
midday no one's there so we go to the
01:35:08
movies when there's no one there and
01:35:09
then we're okay to enjoy the movie
01:35:11
without being bombarded
01:35:12
bye bye bye everyone so you've got to
01:35:15
work around it it's a fascinating inside
01:35:17
isn't it oh well yeah I've never really
01:35:19
told anyone there suppose this is what
01:35:20
proper celebrities do yeah but they'll
01:35:22
have a whole team of security yeah
01:35:24
whenever I go out to town here in
01:35:25
Auckland I usually take one security
01:35:26
guard with me that might sound like yeah
01:35:28
yep it might sound like a really weird
01:35:29
thing but when you've got a thousand
01:35:31
people coming up to you in a nightclub
01:35:33
and you don't know what their
01:35:36
they want to be nice or anything it gets
01:35:39
overwhelming bro and I've had I've been
01:35:41
I've been barred up in a corner bro with
01:35:43
a knife so oh on it was on the street
01:35:46
but yeah that doesn't need to be spoken
01:35:48
about but those those things have
01:35:49
happened and the people that I use look
01:35:51
after Izzy and everyone else as well and
01:35:53
they tour with rap artists all around
01:35:55
the world and they know what they're
01:35:56
doing so they're just good at sensing
01:35:58
day spotting dangerous and doing what
01:36:01
they need to do if push comes to shove
01:36:03
they'll [ __ ] do it they'll protect if
01:36:05
they need beam and I like that they um
01:36:07
are really good friends of mine so yeah
01:36:10
that's a buzzy outlook on my life that's
01:36:13
what it's been like for the last year
01:36:14
and a half two years
01:36:15
only in town I'll if in a festival I'm
01:36:18
going to a festival in a couple weeks
01:36:19
and I've thought about not taking one
01:36:21
with me but I know that's going to be a
01:36:22
big mistake when I walk into 30 000
01:36:25
people and everyone recognizes you it's
01:36:28
a [ __ ] overwhelming thing did you
01:36:30
avoid doing some things because of your
01:36:32
fame or do you just sort of like pack
01:36:34
and choose yeah we don't go to the
01:36:35
movies we're very much very rarely go to
01:36:37
the malls we we will only go to dinner
01:36:41
spots that we know can put us away in a
01:36:43
corner and I know I'm not going to be
01:36:44
bugged
01:36:45
um we only go to places that we trust
01:36:48
um where yeah life changed drastically
01:36:52
bro
01:36:52
um
01:36:53
this time five years ago I could have
01:36:55
walked around in public just been
01:36:56
ticking and no one would have known but
01:36:58
now yep yep um but I wouldn't change it
01:37:01
for the world like people always ask me
01:37:04
like oh
01:37:05
what would you do if you're if you got
01:37:07
rid of your texts I'm like oh would you
01:37:09
get rid of your texts if you could and
01:37:11
I'm like
01:37:12
yeah that's just who I am and I'm quite
01:37:14
a happy dude right now that I'm I'm not
01:37:16
mad or upset so when I was young I
01:37:18
learned to deal with it deal with it
01:37:20
quite you know 22 hours the age that I
01:37:22
accepted myself so yeah I don't know I
01:37:25
probably would just continue being me
01:37:27
ticking throwing myself around having
01:37:29
fun and making people smile that's all I
01:37:31
like to do
01:37:32
that's a good place to end it [ __ ] you
01:37:34
bro I need a piss I've almost drunk this
01:37:37
whole [ __ ] drink your piss is gonna
01:37:39
be pink pink hairs mate all yellow
01:37:41
either or I am I've really enjoyed it
01:37:43
like I've I've met you heaps over the
01:37:45
years yeah before we end for sure if you
01:37:48
could go back in time and change one
01:37:50
thing you did in your life what would it
01:37:52
be I would say
01:37:55
worked harder on my marriage
01:37:58
hey good on you for admitting there with
01:37:59
JJ yeah 100 she's a cool check I saw it
01:38:02
today she was like oh good luck with Tom
01:38:03
on the way out yeah it's quite funny
01:38:05
because I feel like um the person I am
01:38:08
am now or the person I'm becoming is
01:38:10
probably the person that she needed me
01:38:12
to be yep and I just wasn't I was
01:38:14
fixated on work and I um I took it as a
01:38:17
bit do you live fight much do you argue
01:38:19
much no that's it very rarely we'll
01:38:21
disagree but we don't fight yeah me and
01:38:22
JJ never really did and we took it as a
01:38:24
badge of honor and I look back now and I
01:38:25
go there probably wasn't enough
01:38:27
communication or I didn't work hard
01:38:29
enough on the relationship oh
01:38:31
um I'll try it yep and I'll I'll run
01:38:34
around and clean up after her for
01:38:35
example I'll if she asked me to do
01:38:36
something I'll do it she won't make me
01:38:38
do it right then but she'll go oh today
01:38:40
could you please do the washing oh yeah
01:38:41
sweet sweet little things like that yeah
01:38:43
and communicate how I feel but hey good
01:38:45
on you that takes a man to be able to
01:38:46
admit that Tom oh bro well I mean we've
01:38:48
got a we've got a we've got a great
01:38:50
relationship now I I would I'd literally
01:38:52
take a bullet for it like
01:38:54
yep she's she's great yeah I saw her
01:38:57
walking and she's a high text I'm like
01:38:59
oh chair girl [ __ ] what are you up to us
01:39:01
going in for work driving that drive
01:39:03
showing her she's going in there with
01:39:05
the bro and um oh [ __ ] she's oh you're
01:39:07
going to see Dom am I yeah just going
01:39:09
down to see Dom she's oh good luck have
01:39:10
fun thank you yeah and then I had to run
01:39:13
back inside to talk to my my producers
01:39:16
up at media works and they were like
01:39:18
she's like what are you still doing here
01:39:19
I'm like oh [ __ ] you're so loud [ __ ]
01:39:22
you're [ __ ] little with me she's like
01:39:23
bye love your girl she a good girl I
01:39:26
like that girl yeah she's been through
01:39:28
some of the ringers as well she she has
01:39:30
them we've got a we've got a fabulous
01:39:32
relationship now like we do I'll drop
01:39:35
anything for it but you do you do live
01:39:38
with some regrets you know yep there are
01:39:40
things that you do differently but I
01:39:41
think um you can't have too many regrets
01:39:44
and you can't look back on them but you
01:39:45
need to take them as learnings do you
01:39:46
know what I'd change I'm gonna tell you
01:39:47
what I'd change I'd probably spend more
01:39:49
time with my dad
01:39:50
yeah he was a hearty bro hearty man
01:39:53
growing up did you have a good
01:39:54
relationship yeah yeah towards the end
01:39:56
of his life yep we did towards the end
01:39:58
of my uh his life yet he did we had a
01:40:00
really good relationship I'd go up there
01:40:01
and watch the boxing with him every now
01:40:03
and then pull on my phone and take it up
01:40:05
there and would watch it just little
01:40:06
things like that that made us appreciate
01:40:08
things more
01:40:09
um but I would I'd probably spend more
01:40:11
time with him and like for example go
01:40:13
camping and learn things from him as
01:40:15
well yeah
01:40:17
um if I could go back and change
01:40:18
anything that was what I that's what I'd
01:40:19
change well my both my parents are still
01:40:22
alive my mum lives just around the
01:40:24
corner my dad lives in Wellington I'm
01:40:27
quite close with my mum not particularly
01:40:29
close with my Dad yeah but I know what
01:40:33
you're saying I know I I know now from
01:40:35
the perspective of them still being
01:40:36
alive that I'm going to have regrets
01:40:38
when they're gone but I wasn't more
01:40:40
tolerant I wasn't more patient I didn't
01:40:42
do more with them and it's an age thing
01:40:44
as well Tom just remember that every one
01:40:46
of the young age is like [ __ ] You [ __ ]
01:40:48
this and then they grow up and you're
01:40:50
like [ __ ] I should have done this more
01:40:51
I'm such a decade but hey it's a
01:40:53
learning curve in life and there's no
01:40:55
judgment yeah and there's no right away
01:40:56
no right or wrong way to do it it's just
01:40:58
do it yeah yeah yeah okay well in there
01:41:01
that was really fun yeah there was a um
01:41:04
ankle text Laden Clark thank you so much
